I found parking limited , but easy to park ! Letter pickup is about 4:30 . The true downside is you might spend your time chit chatting and catching up with you favorite postal worker! It is now Feb 9 and all 4 pieces are sitting in a USPS "transfer point" undelivered. That's more than $40 paid the USPS wasted. Granted there was a major snow storm in this area on Jan 24 (9 days after I mailed the 4 pieces), but roads (and runways) have been cleared for days. I was warned about government inefficiencies in this part of VA before I moved here. Now I've experienced it first hand. The question I ask is, why do people here put up with it?

Lines can get long and, likely, the two remaining staff will become worn out. Another sad fail from the Charlottesville post office management. Ironic it's at the same time postage stamp rates increased to $.66. Is it any wonder the post office has trouble keeping staff.

It's a rather large facility and it was busy, but the lines were organized by a queue that moved fast. It was beautifully maintained out front, although we did see some "loitering" by the steps. It was clean and tidy on the inside, which was a bright sunny spacious lobby. There was a big greeting card kiosk and plenty of mailing & shipping supplies offered. Also, there a lots of P.O. Boxes available inside. The downside is the parking as you need to park on the street or in the nearby parking deck. The lobby is understandably only open during business hours due to the many people wandering around the mall area to keep it safe and avoid folks "squatting" inside. But perhaps for that reason, it's inconvenient for people who may need to pick up their mail after hours. Hours M-F 8:30-5:00, closed Saturday

The mural, painted by Sheffield Kagy , depicts Luray in 1840 with Louis Ramey's blacksmith shop, farmers and horses with houses and the Blue Ridge Mountains in the background. Not only is the massive colonial brick building historic, built in 1938, built it has many unique architectural features. Inside is fabulous! Lots of rich wood paneling with artistic cutouts, brass mailboxes and mail slots, gold lettering at the windows, yet the wood floor has been preserved by adding carpet. You may have some long Lines at lunchtime, but I was in and out like first class delivery! It was rather spacious, clean, well-stocked. I love the postal system! It's history, the colorful post offices all over the country, and meeting the postmasters all intrigue me! Ruther Glen is an unincorporated community that's serves about 16,000 folks! This post office has odd hours: M-F 9-4:30 closes from 1:30-3 for lunch - haven't seen a post office that closes that long for lunch but good for them! Sat. 10-12.

Their hours are still clunky in my opinion (original complaint) but when they're open and Tiffany is there it's always a five-star visit. I've been feeling this way for a while now whenever I get to vibe w her, but especially today when she asked after my son. The last time we were in for stamps was weeks ago, my son was solving his Rubik's cube while in a splint following his hand surgery. Since 1840, this small historic government facility has been delivering mail and friendly service to folks near and far! It was pretty well stocked and tidy. I love the simple white building, and the old brass mailboxes inside, however, it certainly could use a coat of paint. Inside the walls were cracked and splotchy. With a bit of TLC, this post office could be 5*****! The hours on the post office website are different from the ones posted on the door. I am NOT a big fan of the US Postal System... too…read moremany hours waiting in line, only to be treated like something disgusting by a snarky, rude, person wearing an ill fitting semi uniform... However- if you are in the vicinity of Woodford, Virginia- prepare to step back into the past! The person who greets,(YES, GREETS) you at the counter is pleasant and helpful. Your request is taken seriously and handled in a timely and friendly fashion. The first time I availed myself of the services here, I truly thought I was in a time warp. I have since , returned and each trip has been a wonderful reminder that there are indeed folks who try to do their jobs in a happy and effective manner!
