No one ever answers the phone. I've called 20 times over a 1 year period and no one ever picks up. I've had packages and mail go missing. For a time during 2020/2021 i had all my credit cards that were being sent to me go missing to the point my card companies had to send them via FedEx because they would never get delivered via USPS. But probably my worst experience was last year in 2023... It was a Thursday and I had been expecting a package of very expensive medicine that was temperature sensitive and although it was in a cooler with ice, it was very hot outside. Usually my mail gets delivered very late anywhere from 6:30-8:30 pm on average, but this package never showed up. I looked up on Informed Delivery to see what happened because it is not unusual for my mail person to just not deliver to me. I assume because it gets too late and i must be on the end of their shift. Informed Delivery had the package marked as undeliverable and sent me to a link to either request it be redelivered or to pick it up. Because there was no reason it could not have been delivered in the first place other than the driver just didn't feel like coming, I selected hold at post office and went down early the next day. I went to the post office on Friday morning and was told by one of the gentlemen that worked there that since I did not have a slip, it would be hard for them to find the package but he'd go take a look. He came back after 10 minutes and said he could not find it but that he would put a note on his boss's desk to contact me when it was found and said that more than likely it was being loaded on the truck for that day's delivery and if I did not receive it to come back tomorrow, but that he was sure it would be delivered. I went home and waited all day.. but the package was not delivered. I was very busy the next day and was not able to go back to the post office until the afternoon. I went back, waited in line, and spoke to a different man than the day before. He said he would check the back for the package and again did not find it. Then he said he would go ask his boss about it. I believe her name was Darlene but I could have that wrong. He went to go talk to her while i stood there for 40+ minutes. Meanwhile a nice younger lady who was obviously feeling bad I was waiting so long, asked if she could help and explained to me how sometimes if the truck is overloaded packages might be marked out for delivery that aren't and that they usually get carried over to the following day but remain in bins in the back until they can be loaded. While she was explaining this to me, she was also helping another gentleman who had come in because his package was marked as delivered but had not in fact been delivered and he had been home waiting for it. The gentleman who was "helping" me finally came back and said, "i'm off now" and left. I was honestly so stunned he had me wait for 40+ minutes to come back and just say "I'm off" like what? Realizing I would not get any help, I went home. My package again was not delivered. At this point I called the USPS hotline and put in a missing package report. I should also mention that during this time I had made several attempts to call this particular Post Office but no one ever answered the phone which is why I had to keep going in. The next day was Sunday so there was no hope of delivery that day. Monday morning I again went down to the post office and spoke to the first man I had spoken to on that prior Thursday. This time he was much more helpful and printed up the package's travel log. He explained to me how the packages get put into bins and that the bins are what is tracked, not the actual package, so sometimes there can be issues with tracking that shows it being closer to my destination than it actually is. That being said, if a package is marked out for delivery like mine was, that means it was loaded onto the delivery truck. He then had me wait to the side to speak to his boss (whom I think was named Darlene but again I'm not 100% sure on that). She was speaking to another woman who also had a package missing for several days. So I waited in line to speak to her. She told me the exact same thing she told the lady before me, to write down my information and if they find the package they'll call me and to go home because they don't load the trucks until 10:30 (which explains why my mail gets delivered so late.) At this point my medicine had been traveling in the cooler in very hot conditions longer than it should have so i was sure it was going to be ruined. At 12:30 I got a call saying they had finally found my package. By this point having spent 3 days traveling to Madison and then another 5 being lost, the medicine was bad. I no longer purchase mail order medicine because I cannot rely on deliver as this happened again multiple times. 2 stars because some of the people were very nice even if their hands were tied. read more

This post office has the rudest workers. Today I accidentally spelled Philadelphia incorrectly on the outside of the package I was wanting to send. Then, this post office worker proceeded to MOCK ME in front of everyone who was in there because of the error. English is my second language so I was very embarrassed and could not understand how this guy thought that was okay. Then he wouldn't ship off the package for me. He kept screaming for the next in line person over my head and ignoring me. I got a new package and fixed my spelling and he still wouldn't sent it out and continued to laugh at me with the other customers saying I couldn't figure it out. I eventually just walked out. If I could give ZERO stars I would. I have been tracking my item & the usps app said that it was attempted to deliver my package today but it NEVER showed up. It also said that I can pick up my package in this location but when I attempted to go try to get my package, the employees are telling me that it is not with them but in the truck out for delivery. They never updated it on my end & it still says that i need to pick it up from them in that location. I swear, if my package goes missing or stolen, I will have a word with them. This is by far the worst post office in north Alabama. It's becoming quite clear that the employees are stealing packages. I currently have one Amazon package that is listed as "Out For Delivery" since 07/28/25. I have another Amazon package listed as "Out For Delivery" since 07/30/25. This is the 5th package that has been stolen from me by this post office since June of this year. How is it that the United States Postal Service doesn't have criminal background checks. read more

if I could give this post office zero stars I would. When I lived in an apartment that also went through this post office. There were constantly issues with mailboxes that both the post office and apartment complex blamed each other for, and nobody would take responsibility. Now that I live in a house, I thought I'm far enough away. I had a different post office location. Turns out I was wrong and they have gone multiple days having not delivered important mail to me that claimed according to their system would be delivered that day (I'm posting this review days later than the mail was meant to be delivered) and it's extremely frustrating, and I would highly suggest to everybody don't use this post office if at all possible if you have a way to use a different address and have your stuff sent through a different postal location do it. We also had an issue back in December where we were sending Christmas cards that did have items of monetary value inside them, and those cards were opened, and the items were taken and out of the four cards one of them just straight up didn't even show up. read more

I saw the reviews and had to come on here and just say, I've been going to this location on Hughes for almost 2 years and have a PO BOX and these people working here are the best staff! they always work to get my packages and mail to me. i've never had a problem with getting my mail. They have been helpful and giving me direction when I needed it. I'm not sure when people wrote these other reviews but this review as of August 2025. US Postal Service in Madison continues to FAIL. Small package ordered from Amazon on Monday, 12 Aug with delivery scheduled for Friday, 16 Aug. Of course it didn't come! Saturday morning early the tracking status was updated to "out for delivery - arriving by 8pm"...and it said the same thing Sunday morning...and again this morning. USPS is TERRIBLE, at least in the Madison area. And shame on Amazon for trusting USPS! This is not the first time. EVERYTHING Amazon ships via USPS gets delayed in Madison. Also, three checks from family members have been lost in the past 18 months, one of them sent registered mail. They all seem to make it to the Huntsville/Madison area and then disappear. No one has tried to cash them, but they're gone none the less. We've taken to using more reliable carriers (FedEx, UPS) when sending checks. read more

Always long lines and the customer service is usually sub par. I go in today to get stamps. There's already a line that isn't moving and the place I need to go to get stamps quickly is being held up by someone that is taking every minute possible to investigate what is wrong with the stamp machine. I'm going ahead and assuming that she'll be "working" on that all day at the pace she was going. The sad part is I don't have the time to wait in line for just stamps. Nice post office, convenient location, and I especially appreciate the extended hours that they're open. They may be a bit understaffed, especially around the holidays, but for a small town like Madison, they do a great service. Love our postman, too! Super nice guy. read more

I travel at least twice a year and always put my mail on hold to have delivered to my home when I return. In the past, my mail was delivered in the white postal tray. However, when I came home on June 14, the mail and all magazines were jammed into my mailbox. My mailbox is now bent and the door will not close all the way. This is unacceptable for two reasons: 1) when it rains, my mail will get wet. 2) the mailbox is bent and unattractive to a prospective buyer in the future. Always understaffed and inconsistent in customer service. Sometimes patient and friendly, other times, downright rude. Went in yesterday at 4:30 p.m. to get my mail from the box and saw that I had two package notices. I went around to the front area and saw 12 people standing in line with 2 guys behind the counter. I went to the doorbell and rang it, which is how you get your packages. One guy yelled out "there's nobody back there!." So I walked back to the front and asked him how I could receive my packages, and his rude reply was "stand in line like everybody else." Seriously? Two workers at 4:30 when they close at 6? Most of the time when I do go up to the front because no one answers the doorbell, it's because someone else's package notice is in my box. This happens ALL the time. read more

Have been on hold for 45+ minutes and still waiting. I have a video doorbell and it shows no one delivered this package. Why doesn't the Madison Post Office on Hughes Road ever answer the phone. Instead they Are ruining my items by stuffing them into my mailbox. you guys have ruined a couple packages of mine this week already and now they left one inside the mail unit because she crammed too much stuff in the slot. On 1/17 we submitted a home pick-up request for a package. The package was never picked up but we received an email saying that it was picked up. I ordered an item from Amazon over a month ago and never received it. The manager, Andrew, was very rude and claimed there was a note left on my door. I live in a gated community you would need access through me to get into so that was a lie. It turns out there was an issue with the postage the sender used. He repeatedly called her a liar and was very unprofessional. The sender used the wrong postage so he should've notified her. Instead they kept my package and on the multiple times I called said they would deliver it and they never mentioned a postage issue until today. Worst usps ever!!! For several years we had Bessie H. as our mail carrier. My youngest grandson, Mason, was born in 2010 and by the time he was 1 1/2-2 yrs old he loved waiting for her. He thought she was the prettiest and nicest lady he had met. My daughter and grandson live with us so for almost 3 yrs whenever she came by even if she was on the other side of the road she would wave. Well due to changes in our Madison Post Office her route was changed. He misses her a bunch. Today I really don't know who our carrier is, although I have been told by one that there is a regular carrier now, I still haven't seen who it is. We have few problems, but sure do miss Bessie but glad that we run in to her from time to time in town. read more
