I am a Senior living in Florence Oregon. I moved here in August, 2020, and started my United Healthcare Medicare Health Insurance in September, 2020.
I have back problems, and go to a Chiropractor. After finding out that I couldn't find a Chiropractor within 50 miles of my location, even though they had two listed on their web-site (both were only practicing in Portland, OR), I e-mailed them via their web-site, and asked them what to do. Within 48 hours, a network advocate called me to let me know their process.
She said, that due to the pandemic, I didn't have to be referred by a doctor. And, that because I had no in-network chiropractor within 30 miles of my location, that I could choose from one of the two chiropractors in the area and I would only pay my $20 co-payment, and that United Healthcare would pick up the rest of the bill. I might add that the office manager of the chiropractic office, also called and was given the green light to treat me.
I went to the chiropractor five or six times, and diligently paid my $20 co-pay. Then in mid October, they started denying all my chiropractic claims. Angry doesn't even begin to cover how I felt.
In early November, I filed an appeal with United Healthcare. And, I dumped them as my Insurance Provider, and signed up with Providence Healthcare Medicare. I might add that they have both chiropractors in Florence, Oregon, as in-network and a covered provider.
To date, I have not heard one word from United HealthCare on my appeal. I tracked the letter and I know they got it. I will follow through on the appeal, but I don't expect them to pay. So, I am left with over $400 of chiropractic care bills.
Based on my own experience, I consider this company to be one of the most unethical I have ever dealt with, and do not recommend them as a Medicare Healthcare Provider. If they so callously denied my chiropractic care, what other claims will they deny after giving permission for medical care. read more
