Floor joist replacement, porch cap, framing in a roof over my front porch, and then reroofing the whole house. Not exactly a small job. Talked to Patrick, explained the work that needs to be done. He said he would call to set up an appointment the next morning when he was near his calendar. Didn't call the next morning, so i called him. We set up an appointment for the next week. He never showed. Didn't call. Just didn't show. So, while my review is not a review of the quality of work this company does, it IS a review of their complete lack of professionalism. I can only guess that this lack of professionalism extends to the work they do.

I called Mike again and he took the time to come out again and look at the project and explain in detail what was wrong and what he was going to do to fix it. For the amount of work and seriousness of this project, Mike's price was more than fair. He emailed me a detailed list of what work would be performed and the total. He was easy to reach by phone, always on time and just a really good, stand up guy.The house was built incorrectly from the beginning in 1977. Avalon had to come in and cut the basement floor, pour concrete, put in a new foundation pole, let it cure for a week, then jack up the house from the basement, put in a new header, put the house back down on the new pole/header. Then go to the first floor and again, jack the entire second floor up, tear out old warped header, put in two new headers in two different areas and then set the entire second floor back down on the new headers. Also, the subfloor was warped so they ripped out the subfloor, straightened everything out and put in new 1/2" plywood in the areas needed. Very, very professional. This was a very hard job and as you can imagine, I was worried beyond belief that I made the wrong choice in buying this home. Mike at Avalon made me feel secure.

We had started to feel like we were going a little insane from the gaslighting we were receiving from that contractor. Jonatan assured us of the quality of work he was observing and how he could help us resolve some of the issues we were having for a decent price. He was honest, upfront and transparent throughout the entire process, which is exactly what we needed after being burned by the bait and switch from our general contractor. We have since called him multiple times for work in different areas of our Indian village home. his crew is very professional they clean up after themselves. They ensure that the work area is taped off to protect your property, and the quality of the work is outstanding. They covered all of our floors leading up to the bathroom (remodel). The completed job matches our original plan. They were able to make adjustments when things were not going according to plan. They were able to obtain all the materials we picked out. Anytime we reached out to our Project Manager he was able to respond and give us information in a timely manner. Since we don't have a garage, they were able to provide us with a trailer which held all of our materials on site. Negatives: They gutted the bathroom as planned. When they laid the floor, they never covered it with paper so they continued to remodel the bathroom walking on the newly installed floor. Seems like not a big issue, but it's winter and they were dragging in dust, snow, ice and salt onto our new black floor. All of the debris was falling onto the new floor. Due to the fact that multiple people are working on multiple jobs, mistakes were made and workers had to come back out to fix errors made. Part of why we went with Detroit Build is because they had a design team. We were still required to go out and find the materials on our own. Our assumption was they would take care of this step. While our Project Manager did get back to us, we had to reach out weekly to get updates. At the end of the project the only cleaning that was done was construction cleanup. We were disappointed to find out that they did not have a cleaning company to take care of this job. It wasn't a clean and pristine feeling that you would expect with a remodel. We had to call and get a "deep clean" on our newly remodeled bathroom.

A slight miscommunication occurred likely in the quoting stage already, where I may not have picked up on a bidet seat being installed where I wasn't expecting that to happen. But that would also explain the higher re-quote that I approved, so there's that. We came to like it anyways and are happy with it. Kevin was a great Project Manager; whenever I saw something that needed improvement, Kevin took care of it. Their Showroom in Royal Oak to pick designs / tiles etc. is definitely a plus. The job was billed exactly as quoted; if there is something I would recommend doing would be a formal, final walk-through at the end of the project. There are a few very minor things I would have wanted to at least discuss or have some advice on. Overall I'd highly recommend Detroit Build and would work with them on a future job any time.

Don't know how many others out there have struggled with the kitchen cabinets that have the…read more"European hinges"; but, if you've ever encountered them, you know what a pain they are to adjust!! If they're not adjusted properly, the doors hit each other, rub against each other, and simply won't close properly! Each hinge has 3 adjustment screws and needs the patience of a saint to finally get the adjustment just right!! My husband called yesterday morning and Benny told him he'd be out in the afternoon. Arrived around 1:30 and worked on our "small" problem about 2 1/2 hours! Can't say enough good things about our experience with Benny! We'll certainly be calling him again to help with things around the house that my husband can no longer do!!!

They paid attention to the smallest details, including how the veins on my tile design interacted with each other.
