This was a very unique experience this is the first time I've ever been to a all-you-can-eat buffet as since the pandemic started. So needless to say it was a learning experience as well. I went there with my parents as they wanted to have lunch with us and when they brought us to the table I noticed that there were x's on certain tables with big blue tape which meant you're not allowed to sit at those tables they were practicing the social distancing. You can see in the pictures they had plastic all over everything to protect the food. Like extra-long sneeze guards so that the food does not get in contaminated. Also, there is sanitizer and plastic gloves that you have to put on every time you go up so that you're touching the utensils that are up there with a clean set of plastic gloves and a clean styrofoam plate every time. The food seems very fresh and it did have a nice hot quality to it even though it was an all-you-can-eat buffet and sometimes having the food sit out in those hot Sterno areas makes it so that they don't taste hot all the time. I need to say that it was very good. The sushi was delicious I tried some things that I've never tried before just to give it a go and I must say that I was impressed I was inspired by a friend to try some sushi. The deserts was absolutely delicious it ranges because they have little cookies they have little cakes they have puddings ranging from banana cream to chocolate pudding. They also have peanut brittle there as well which is very good. They have your choice of ice cream vanilla, chocolate or swirl and the one thing I've always loved about their ice cream is that it doesn't taste like ice crystals it taste like real ice cream so it's absolutely delicious I always save room for ice cream there. The servers were really nice and friendly as well and they were very attentive as far as getting the plates cleared off of the table when we were Up and Away getting the food. The problem that I had wood that is because they served it in those styrofoam cups they were unable to see when we were running out of liquid so they were not able to find out from us if we were not at the table if we needed something so by the time we came back we did not have any liquid and they had already cleaned off the table so we had to chase them down to get a refill on our drinks. That's why I dropped it down the star but other than that it was absolutely phenomenal there I was quite impressed. The pricing it's a little on the high side, especially if you're going there on the weekends because they set one price for Sunday all day long and for three people and end up being around 40 something dollars and for two people it ended up being 20 something dollars. So if you can't really eat a lot oh, you need to balance out whether that is worth it for you on the weekend or not. Followed by that though I will say that on the weekend you get the shrimp and extra amenities that you don't get during the cheaper times of the week. So there are bonuses to going on the weekend vs during the day on the weekday. If you're ever in the area stop by this restaurant it is excellent. We have been going here for YEARS. The place is always clean and well managed. The food is typical but they have THE best crab rangoons. So when we found out they opened back up during the pandemic we had to go. Excellent precaution methods. Mask required unless sitting at table. Tables are not being used, only booths, and everyone is seated at least six feet apart. Food stations are wrapped in plastic so only the tongs fit underneath. Hand sanitizer AND gloves are required EVERY time you go to food stations. All dishes, cups, and silverware have been replaced by styrofoam. Staff wears mask at all times and wears them the correct way. They are clearly doing an excellent job of trying to keep the restaurant and people safe. They also have the best bathroom...In the ladies room the "special" stall comes with it's own sink and paper towels! It's always exciting to poop at United Buffet. And they play music! So there's entertainment, not just the sound of other people urinating and defecating! My only complaint about this place is the fried rice. It USED to be good. But in the last few years it became rice pilaf. A big let down. read more

One of the better ones.in the area, however I am really.disappointed and frustrated at being billed a 10% mandatory gratuity on a 5 person table without being informed ahead of time. I am all for tipping waitstaff appropriately, but it should be at MY discretion based on the service recieved not added on as a.requirement without my knowledge. My first time here and I finally looked up how to save favorite locations in Maps on the iPhone so I could save this one. I was very happy with the sushi, though I would have liked them to have a wider variety of nigiri (they had only tuna, salmon and shrimp). I cleaned them out, had some veggie lo mein and veggie fried rice, and then went back and decimated their nigiri stores again. It wasn't the amazing melt-in-your-mouth stuff you get at the best sushi places, but I don't expect that in a setting like this. It was fresh enough and tasty and had a texture I found pleasing, and that's plenty good enough for me at a place where I can eat all I want for $15.00. I agree with one reviewer that the servers can be a little on the robotic side, but I don't believe I experienced any rudeness. And again, this is not a high-end establishment and the servers are probably not paid very respectable wages, and as we all know, you tend to get what you pay for. I've been to United many times now, and I've never felt I that I didn't get my money's worth. If there's a buffet in the area that has a better selection of food choices, I've not come across it. There's literally something to fullfill the needs of everyone. Will they get a Michelin star? No. But, the food is pretty good, and the price is very fair. If you can't find something you like here, then a buffet is probably not where you want to be eating. I recommend them, without hesitation. read more

So many online reviews praised United Buffet in Schenectady that I thought I would give it a try. Last time I was there was about 6 years ago. Me and my companion got ripped off there today. We arrived at 3:18 for lunch, and was told I now had to pay for dinner, versus lunch prices. Despite the fact I pointed out their Facebook page and menu displayed at the entrance says lunch is until 3:30, I had to abide by their hand written sign saying lunch stops at 3:15. The extra $8 I had to pay got me a plateful of barely warm Asian food. Not sure how holding food at 100 degrees or so is food safe. Every single item sampled was barely warm, and significantly under seasoned. The veggie fried rice tasted like it had been sautéed in a *butter substitute* oil, and was gross. Thirty four dollars for two plates of barely warm, not good food. How can ALL the dishes not taste good and all be uniformly barely warm? There looked to be more than enough staff, picking up, stirring the food, yelling at each other across the room...can't they stick a instant read thermometer in the lo mein and see it's not hot? Aren't they supposed to be doing that!? Yikes. Never again. And I want my $8 back. read more

My friend and I had lunch at United Buffet very recently. This buffet used to be an Old Country Buffet (closest location is in Pittsfield MA). The place has plenty of seating including booths and tables and there are also flatscreeen TVs in the dining areas. For the area, this buffet has an impressive selection of food choices offering Chinese, American, Italian, and Japanese dishes including fried foods (fries, crab rangoons, spring rolls, egg rolls, chicken fingers & nuggets, fried vegetables), stuffed mushrooms, egg foo young, dumplings, chicken teriyakis, lomein, rice, soups, salad bar, seafood (shrimp cocktail, stuffed shrimp, fish, calamari, crab legs (dinner)), mac & cheese, spinach & cheese, pizza slices (kept in heated case), sushi (very limited selection), hibachi/BBQ grill, desserts (soft serve ice cream, cookies, cake, petit fours, pie tarts, jello, fruits), and more. They also had breakfast out on the buffet (scrambled eggs, bacon, & French toast). The food we had was tasty and very filling. We each enjoyed three plates of food before calling it quits and being stuffed and skipping dessert. Too many choices here, a good thing! The service was attentive, as the staff were very anxious to clear our used plates often and Diet Cokes refilled. However, when I went over to the hibachi grill area to select my raw ingredients to be cooked, there was no cook present (at the grill and I waited for about 3 minutes and still no cook showed up. I ended up taking my plate of ingredients back to my table and waited until the cook returned to the grill, 10 minutes later. Within the class of the all-you-can-eat buffet, significantly better than average. Cleaner than most buffets we've visited, with less in the way of sad steam table wilting and seemingly more attention to keeping things fresh, neat, and orderly. The food is mostly Americanized Chinese with smatterings of classic fish fry, standard American (fries and wings and so forth), and a small selection of things from other Americanized cuisines. For AmChi, though, the dishes were as good as most dedicated takeout places, and things like actual crispy green beans (as opposed to wilted brown stalks that have been sitting out too long) were a welcome surprise. Downgrades: the "salad" bar only had lettuce for its greens option (no spinach, etc.) and that lettuce was sad yellow iceberg. The sushi was fine, considering, but there was basically only one kind of fish-based sushi near as I could tell (farmed salmon). And the pizza was not good: sort of Chuck E. Cheese-level, such that even the kids weren't too thrilled about it. However, the jello cubes and soft ice cream machine seems to have soothed them. The service for dish removals and drink refills was very prompt and timely. I will be frank and say that seeking out the buffet is not the first thing I'd do with my food dollars but sometimes just getting a selection of hot food fast is the only thing that will do with the kids, and not having to discuss who is eating what that night is a big plus. The staff is very rude and talked about my 9 yr old child because she looks older than 9. They literally said something about her in front of her and I know this for a fact because they pointed at her and spoke in there language. As I'm sitting down eating at the United buffet in Schenectady, my daughter is enjoying her pizza. She gets about half way into her pizza and starts yelling "Mommy there is a bug on my food" me thinking it might have been just a fly or something, look over and it's a whole ROACH! Only giving it one star because I can't give it zero. I have a small service dog. When I went to get my food from the buffet ( see Ada.gov service dog faq can service dogs be in a self serve food line ) I was immediately attacked by an unsupervised child who tried to grab my service dog. So I picked her up (keeping her away from the food.) the lady who is the manager came and told me that I couldn't have my dog by the buffet. I informed her of the ada ( hello, your a manager, educate yourself) and she refused my education. I was harassed. The food was good. I got Sauteed Beef Scallion and a Lunch combo for take-out the first time around when everything was shut down. When the buffet opened back up, my family and I went for a dine in to experience what other stuff the buffet got besides from the take out menu. We enjoyed their sushi, soup, salad bar, etc. and what I particularly liked the most was their coconut shrimp and stuffed mushrooms. My family has had lunch at United several times. It's a nice, classic buffet, mostly focusing on Asian cuisine. The food seems fresh and of decent quality. They have at least four large "islands" of entre-style food (a variety of meat and seafood dishes), one stand for soup, a sushi corner, and at least 10 dessert options. The servers are friendly and quick to clean the table. They also don't guilt customers for wasting food! The prices are acceptable for the buffet (I think $12 per person for brunch/lunch). Be careful coming here on special days or holidays. I took my mom on Mother's Day and they added a $5 "Mother's Day Brunch "surcharge for each of us, even though nothing was different or extraordinary. read more

Has definitely gone very downhill since we found it a couple years ago. The service is sub par, at best. The waitresses can't be bothered to refill your water, let alone get you a highchair that isn't broken. The selection of well-cooked foods is inconsistent and many of the foods are grossly overcooked. The clams are one of their big sellers for dinner time but, are always out of stock and take a rather long time to be refilled. As with most places, the hostesses seat you right on top of other diners and don't give any thought to spacing people out so they can enjoy their meal with a discrete conversation. The food used to be really good and we frequently drove out of our way to dine there but, now it's nothing more than a 'it's late and we can't think of anywhere faster' option. If your standards aren't very high, look no further. If you're looking for a quality meal for your money, keep looking! There are other buffets with much more to offer. read more

Just a few months ago, the "United Buffet" used to be the Old Country Buffet... which closed down all of a sudden and out of the blue (I wasn't surprised, as it had gone downhill in a serious way). I assumed the United Buffet that recently opened was an Asian buffet of sorts (based upon the name).. and reading the sole review here, realized I was correct. I was so excited to try this buffet!! I really enjoy Asian/Chinese buffets, as Chinese food is one of my absolute favorites in the world. We do have several Asian buffets in the area, but none that are just "perfect" and each have disappointed one or several times. We live just 3 minutes from United Buffet, AND we had a coupon for 10% off (you can find these at LEAST once a week in the Gazette, so make sure you look!) so we decided to go today- there were 5 of us (4 adults, and our 3 year old daughter- btw, they do have plenty of highchairs!). I was THOROUGHLY impressed at how HOT the food was. The food was EXTREMELY fresh and piping hot- no matter what you got. THIS is always a problem with me at most buffets... food that sits on trays and gets lukewarm and old. This was not an issue here, not with anything I tried. Things were refilled VERY quickly. I saw noodles run out, and they were promptly replaced within just a few seconds after running out- messes around the buffet were cleaned almost immediately- the employees were walking all over making sure everything was kept up and properly taken care of/cleaned. The food *I* had was amazing, seriously. Chicken & Broccoli is my ALL time favorite food in the world and it was honestly the best chicken and broccoli I've had from ANY place in this area. The sauce on it was delicious, it was hot and fresh... my 3 year old even liked it. The green beans were ALSO the best I've ever had. The fried rice was fantastic (although it had too many onions for me, no biggie.. I pick them aside). In my opinion, there was PLENTY available for people who aren't into the "asian" type of foods- there was chicken nuggets, mac & cheese, pizza, mashed potatoes w/ gravy, french fries, a nice fresh salad bar (and very fresh fruit). The waitress we had was super-nice. We had decided to split our check as we were with our parents and they were paying separate- we had one 10% off coupon and she was kind enough to take the 10% off BOTH bills.. very nice! Plates were cleared almost immediately. The ONLY downside to me (though NOT enough to knock it down a star) is that my 3 year old was $5.99 .. which seems pretty expensive to me. (my husband and I were both $10.99). It just seemed to be a rather high price for such a small girl- she DID eat a good variety (and it was nice that she could get fruits AND veggie in the meal)... but she didn't eat $5.99 worth of food. Drinks (soda), however, is included in the price so that's good. Lunch is cheaper, though I can't recall how much right now (perhaps $7 or 8 and change). The prices are listed on a board before you walk in. There were several dessert choices- ice cream from a machine (it's usually ice milk??)- no sprinkles, though! Several pie choices, cookies, cream puffs, etc. All included in price. (and, of course, you get fortune cookies!) You pay in the end- the cashier was very friendly. There are even little mints at the desk as you leave. I truly hope this buffet stays the way it was tonight. I know things can go downhill as time goes on (this is a very new buffet) and I just hope the quality remains- if so, I will be back time and time again. We thoroughly enjoyed the food! read more
