I've always loved big markets having grown up in the middle of many in Pennsylvania. I recently…read morevisited Cleveland and friends made sure we started a Saturday here. It was a highlight of the trip! The market is right downtown in a gorgeous old building, make sure to look at the ceilings. There are public parking areas all around outside, but it does get busy. There are also side buildings and outdoor stalls nearby, so be sure to check them out. Inside is rows upon rows of amazing local vendors with food to enjoy there, or many items to buy and take home. Meat counters, fresh vegetables and fruit, sauces, Middle Eastern food, Greek, Mexican, Gyros, sandwiches, baked goods, salads and so much more are all over. Even stalls that repeat the same types of items have their own unique spin and history. It's busy, with people everywhere looking and enjoying their purchases. Prices are reasonable, especially how fresh and local everything is. I bought a bunch of small things to eat while we walked, together we bought shishkabobs and steak to enjoy at home the following day. It's a great place to shop local!

Visiting West Side Market on day two of my trip confirmed a few things for me:…read more 1. Cleveland is seriously underrated as a city. Food and architecture are two areas where it deserves far more recognition, and this market showcases both beautifully. 2. I'm coming back. 3. There is absolutely zero chance I stay in a hotel next time. I need a place with a kitchen. When I return, I fully intend to walk through this market, buy from no fewer than 10 stalls, and somehow end up preparing enough food for 25 people--even if it's only my family of four. The specialties here are endless. The uncooked pierogies nearly broke my heart because I had no way to take them home and cook them myself. Sausage lovers will be in heaven, and beyond that, you'll find incredible produce, fresh fish, quality proteins, and a wonderful representation of the many cultures that make Cleveland what it is. All of this is housed inside a historic building with stunning architecture that makes the experience even better. Pro tip: Climb the stairs to the second floor for an incredible bird's-eye view of the entire market. It's the perfect way to appreciate just how special this Cleveland landmark really is.

They had a promotion that you can get 2 weeks for the price of 1 week and try this out. So I decided to try. Last week I got my first box. I chose the small vegetarian box. It's $29 bucks a week. So I got it for $19 bucks a week. My next box is this week. I got kale, zucchini, cucumbers, dill, blueberries, potatoes, kohlrabi, beets, peas, and an onion. Then we bought chocolate chips cookies and also a bag of english muffins. I made potato salad with the red potatoes and kohlrabi, and dill. We had breakfast sandwiches with the muffins they are big and really good! And I've made the various other veggies throughout the week. I am looking forward to this weeks box. I pick up at the Hudson stop. The lady who helped us was very nice. And they set up in a large space so you can see them and it's a good large window of time to get your stuff. Overall good experience and the veggies were fresh and good. I like that you're getting this from the source farmer. I like supporting a local farmer. Depending on your time and your means this could be a good alternative to shopping at corporate stores. Or maybe if you hate shopping for veggies. They have carnivore boxes and also vegan boxes. I chose the vegetarian because we get meat from a butcher. So this could be your shopping for the week in some cases. Check out the website and see if this is right for you.

It has grown over the years to offer far more than just produce: dairy, bread products, canned and fermented, baked goods, meats, prepared foods...and on and on. The customer service is personal and prompt. They go out of their way to be accommodating. The value is outstanding. No way I could purchase the same amount or quality at a local grocery chain. The owners also clearly care about their farming partners as much as they care about their customers; the weekly newsletter that accompanies the weekly offering often highlights a farmer and their product and shares insights on what it takes to produce honest, local food. I have looked for CSAs in MI and WA state for my adult kids and there is nothing available as extensive as Fresh Fork. It is a true gem in NEO.

From the owner: Erie Bone Broth creates delicious, nutritious, nourishing bone broth, right here in Cleveland,…read moreOhio. Slow-simmered and made with only the finest quality ingredients, our premium, ready-to-use products bring the traditional, time-honored health benefits of bone broth into the busy, modern world. What makes Erie Bone Broth unique? It's all about that simmer. Other companies heat their stock for as little as 20 hours. We prefer the slow approach to making bone broth. Our bones--exclusively from grass-fed animals and pastured birds--are first roasted, then soaked in organic apple cider vinegar. This process imparts a deep, rich flavor while freeing up vital minerals. We follow this important step with a lengthy simmering--24 hours for chicken and turkey bones, and 72 hours for beef, bison, and elk. Slow, steady cooking maximizes gelatin content, evident when our broth jells in the fridge--a sure sign of health-giving nutrition in every tasty sip. True to its ethos, Erie Bone Broth contains only natural ingredients: bones, connective tissues, organic herbs and vegetables, apple cider vinegar and reverse osmosis filtered water. All our products are free of salt, gluten, and soy, making them ideal for those with food sensitivities and dietary restrictions. Our 24 oz. spout pouches--for pouring the perfect cup of broth--are BPA-free. And of course, no genetically modified organisms are ever used. It's our belief that healthy food starts from the ground up...

Found my new produce stand at the WSM--done and done…read more I'm a CSA gal, Fresh Fork to be exact, but sometimes you just need some extra ingredients and that's where Rooted In Cleveland comes in. Here there is no question where your produce is coming from--most likely it's from across the street at Ohio City Farm! Yep: the farm that helps refugees find work and teaches them to farm to make money (Refugee Responce)... the farm space that helps people in need find fresh produce while also supplying local restaurants in Ohio City with tons of homegrown goodies. That farm! The stand has pretty much all seasonal items, but when I stopped by last week they had everything I was looking for. Herbs, root veggies, tomatoes, greens--yum! I'm not sure what the stand will look like in the winter months, but I'm sure they'll have something out there that's delicious. Their FB page says it best, "We're a seasonally and sustainably-oriented produce stand at the West Side Market providing local and organically-minded specialty produce." Prices were way cheaper than Dave's Supermarket and pretty on point with the rest of the stands. But what really stands out? No yelling or selling! That's right--no one at the stand will try to sell you or trick you into buying overly ripened produce they don't let you see first before they throw in a bag. In general, just picture this: You're fighting your way through the produce wing at WSM on a Saturday afternoon, then you turn the corner to suddenly find a peaceful place where you can take a breath of fresh air and buy bad ass local produce. Yes, that was a bit of a run-on, but you get the point. Hint: It's near the Ohio City Blooms stand.
