We welcomed our 23 weeker in Sept and spend every moment in the NICU in Wilmington traveling back and forth. I posted on fb that I was looking for a hairdresser to cut my hair. My scalp was going through a flare at the time due to stress and poor dieting. --- Back to the post. Teresa from Ride or Die Salon asked for my business. We messaged and I looked over her prices and her competitors prices (from the post). She was the only one to offer Cut and Shampoo for $25 per her website However in messenger she threw out Cut Wash & Style for $45 *we are tight on medical bills and my kid is fighting for his life* so I go with the $25 option The appointment was made (by me). She tried to change it for earlier but I couldnt. I arrive. She was in the worst attire. Very unprofessional like she just rolled out of bed. I thought maybe she was sick... so I discarded it. She instantly starts upselling me. On hair masks and trying to correct my habits that can cause my flares by suggesting I buy the shampoo shes going to use on me. (I feel awful and already so self conscious about my scalp) She goes to wash my hair and cut. She then tells me she has to dry my hair to see how the cut will land. (I trimmed maybe an inch) She reminds me she will NOT style because im only paying for the cut & shampoo. (Okkkkkay make it awkward and pressuring) The blow drys my hair (w/o any products) just a spray to make it dry faster. My hair is half dry / mostly frizzy and damp. She keeps bugging me about my flare and how this shampoo will change my scalp and how the mask will lock in the moisture I need. Im about to leave. And I have so much anxiety just thinking about this experience. I asked her what the product prices are.... Bc she's the expert and I should trust her... right? So gives me a large sum (well over $100) for all with a free hair net for the mask. I said, nooo thats a bit much maybe I'll just take the Shampoo. She rings me up. And asks what tip % I want to leave (anxiety just gets higher) I automatically tip 20% on everything after COVID so I said, 20%. She said great. Receipt can be emailed or texted. Then she asks me to take her card so I can "swing by" and pick up the hair mask.. and how she's willing to meet me in town too! She could probably sense how upset I was with my hair and suggested I can come back after I style it & get a free touch up or cut if needed. Heres what pissed me off even MORE. I went home and looked at my receipt. She charged me $84 freaking DOLLARS! I cried. I dont have a job and im spending all my money on gas & dollar menus to see my kid an hour away And I paid $84 for a service that was supposed to be around $25. She charged me EXTRA for length (never mentioned it and its not on her website) Then she did 20% tip from SERVICE + EXTRAS + PRODUCT I was furious. A few days later I found a great hairdresser down to road & I love her. Been seeing her since. I am SAD I wasted my time and money with Teresa.. like just be upfront and don't try to shake me for every cent. YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE, I DIDNT HAVE IT FOR AN $84 haircut. I mean heck I paid that much money and still walked out with damp frizzy hair.... Eww.

My stylist, Brie, listened to the concerns I had with my hair and the goals I wanted to achieve in time. She broke down each step in the process Barney style so I that could understand and give feedback before proceeding. She made me feel heard during our consultation and patiently taught me how to style my hair, she went above and beyond. My hair feels so much healthier and I love how it came out. The atmosphere of this salon is immaculate. The space itself is stunning, the staff is super kind and friendly, and the boutique inside has the cutest clothes! I bought three pairs of the best palazzo pants I have ever tried on. After living here for 8+ years- I am telling you that this is where you want to get your hair done from here on out. This isn't about character assassination it doesn't apply. The vibe of this place is misleading. The 'ambiance' is pretty NY studio and the people are really nice. The person that I had boasted about being 'really good with men's hair.' To this I have to say not so much. When I got there I had shoulder length hair and was looking for a change. I'm a youngish looking acting 62 year old and I wanted a punk 'Japanese' look. But that's not what I got. I got a high volume, mess. It was supposed to be razor cut but you know on the outside not buried under a mass of hair. Sort of backwards. If you can't see the different lengths it sort of makes the process moot. Try again #2. Let me point out that this person that I was loyal to is very chatty. Which is fine what else are you gonna do in this situation? OK so #2. I get there and decide that I'd like to get an asymmetric cut but extreme. Not barely. Otherwise what is the point. And I thought it would be cool to get a streak but that came the next time. This time it was an attempt at an asymmetric cut. You guessed it not even close. Anyhoo, I keep leaving disappointed but I'm a nice guy so I just sort of accept it. Just kept thinking I know I'll get what I want at some time in the future so keep on showin up. Onto the dye transfer. I chose a funky teal and instead of a streak it was about 10 hair follicles. Super impactful as you would guess right? More like underwhelming. Then I realize that she did such a magnificent job that she included my scalp for free. I had blue dye all up on my head and she said they usually would use baby wipes and suggested I get some. They were somehow out which to me is bizarre. Hey we painted your head so now you have the honor of purchasing an item we should always have on hand. Huh? I was pissed at this point. But I took her advice. I began to rub the area of lovely blue with the now purchased wipes. Did I mention I have no baby to use the other 100 on? As luck would have it the dye really permeated the skin so I rubbed so hard that it caused an abrasion. Whoo hoo! What more could a man ask for? And no it didn't come off for days but every ounce of dye in my hair did. Jackpot in Jax. To end and here is why I am writing this. This person is nice but woefully under trained when it comes to knowledge of styles and what they should look like. I like this person so much as a person that when she liked my bracelet I took it off and gave it to her. This I don't care about it's nice to make others happy. Like for instance me. I did a little introspection and gave her a call. I said I had to be honest I didn't think she understood what I wanted so I nicely said 'miscommunication.' Translated that means when you don't understand something say so. Or, if you are in over your head state that. I'd rather that than a shtty haircut. Synopsis. When someone calls you as I did you have 2 choices. Go into Customer Svc. mode and explain that 'you are a valued customer.' Won't you please reconsider and I'll get someone else for you so you'll get what you want. We'll give you that free and no harm just want to make this right. Didn't get that. Got, OK sorry it didn't work out. Click. So much for feeling worthy. Clearly I was just another fn customer and that was that. I purposely didn't make this personal because of Covid and hard times for many including her she has a few jobs. So the object here is to speak truth to power so that maybe this becomes a teaching moment. Sht happens. But when it's this kind I need to open up and advocate for myself. Wish this person the best. But the way I was treated was shite. My hair is still a mess after months of not going there. All kinds of weird ends and no shape to go with it. Nope. Not pleased not saying don't go. You might strike gold. All I got was a chunk of anthracite. Score! Whatever you choose, do not ask for The Gorbachev. You've been warned.

Kenzie read the notes I wrote on my appointment booking and I was really impressed by her ability to work with wavy and curly hair.
