I have driven past Unique Hair Studio for years. Every time I went past, I thought, "I need to call," because there was a sign that said something like "curly hair welcome." In 2019, well before the pandemic started, I began embracing my gray hair. Then, I gradually started embracing my curly hair. I've spent thousands of dollars and years straightening and coloring my hair. After spending time on YouTube trying to figure out how to manage and style my curls, I reached out and scheduled a consult with Starr. At that first meeting, Starr spent 30 minutes with me, patiently listening to what I wanted and telling me how to care for my curly hair until I could come back in. When I could finally go in for a curly cut, Starr took her time with me and my hair. She gently coaxed my curls to cooperate as she trimmed here and there. Regarding products and styling, Starr explained everything she was doing and using on my hair (from shampoo to protecting spray). She walked me through the entire process, so I could get the best results at home. I took pictures of all the products she used on my hair. But when I got home, I had forgotten what order she used the products in, and how she was using them on me. I texted her and asked for guidance. Starr was so accommodating and texted me right back explaining all the steps in the hydrating/styling process. A bonus is that Starr is a pretty awesome human being. The vibe in her salon is lovely. I felt comfortable, welcome, and seen from the first moment I met her. I cannot recommend Starr highly enough--especially if you have curly hair that likes to be frizzy and haywire.
