218 Stanton Avenue I…read morewas a resident at this building through Campustown for about a year. For anyone looking for housing I broke it down into categories that I look for in Apartment housing as an ISU student. Cost: The rent was cheap for the location and from what I've seen rates for this building haven't gone up unlike the ones around it. We paid $489 or something close to it. Utilities usually weren't too bad but I think one month we each paid about $60 for electric, water, and sewer but that was mainly because one of our roommates got a huge T.V. and had it on 24/7. Internet also wasn't included for this building so that ended up being another $12.50 a month per person. This was the highest speed available though and I'm sure you could find cheaper options. Parking isn't included but is available for another $30 or $40 a month and was close by. Location: It only took me about 10 or 15 minutes to get to class and I even walked all the way to Gilman some days. The biggest pain was crossing Lincoln way every time, but it wasn't that big of a deal. The hallways in our building were kind of gross but our apartment was pretty big and the carpet and tile were either new, or at least fairly new. Apartment Our living room was really big and our bedrooms were also a fairly good size. We also had two bathrooms, which was nice. The kitchen was kind of old though and a couple of our cabinet doors wouldn't stay shut. We just put command hooks on them which was a quick and cheap fix. We also got free access to a gym that I didn't use much during the school year, but the pool there was a ton of fun in the summer. The gym never seemed too crowded to me unless it was about 6 or 7 at night but like I said I wasn't there much because I usually went to State. Customer Service I didn't deal with the office people much besides touring and signing a lease with them. They seemed friendly during the lease process though and were always nice when I would go in to drop off rent. Maintenance/Issues I mainly dealt with the maintenance guys when I lived here. A little way through the year our laminate in our kitchen actually started bubbling, we let them know about it and even though it took a little while to get fixed we did get all new tile in our kitchen for free, which was pretty nice. While they were working on the floor they also took some notes on what else they could fix and replaced some old window blinds with new ones that same day. They seemed really friendly and respectful whenever they were in our apartment. My only complaint would be that it took them a while to respond to some of our maintenance requests, but I feel like emergencies were always handled very quickly.

Maintenance has locked us out of rooms and have let our cats out by just leaving doors open. It took them months to "fix" our stove and didnt even fix it. The management is incredibly incompetent and doesn't do anything when there are issues. They are charging over $3,000 in damages and cleaning charges when there is no way the damages are that much. They didnt give an itemized receipt for damages either. Utilities are not done through the city and they overcharge you, my 3 bed Utilities were around 400 a month even when we were gone. They come into your apartment without any warning and do things without your permission. The pool was open a total of 2 months the entire 2 years i lived there. The windows dont close tight and the screens dont stay on the windows. My AC was broken more than it worked and their solution was a window unit which makes the already high utilities higher. The smoke alarms would go off even if we weren't cooking or in the kitchen at all. Overall just dont live here, they charge way too much and I've never known anyone who has enjoyed living here. I really hope people stop renting here.

When I moved in my key didn't work and the employee who helped me seems annoyed and was very rude. It looks nothing like the model unit. The apartment itself is disgusting upon move-in. It is dirty and EVERYTHING is broken. There were about 20 dead flies on my floor when I moved in. Our dishwasher does not clean any dishes. There are marks all over the walls. The toilets all run unless you flush it a certain way. There is mold in our unit. If you submit a maintenance request, they usually ignore it and mark it as complete. My roommates and I all cried when we first walked in. They also lie to you when you are touring. The terrible quality blinds break EASILY and then you will get charged for them. Don't mount anything on the walls or you will get charged for it. The stove tops are slanted. Absolutely NOTHING had been cleaned or touched since the last tenants moved out, which means everything is disgusting and filthy. Every day for the first 2 months we have found something new that is broken. The washer/dryers ruin clothes and are very musty/mildewy. The walls are incredibly thin. It feels unsafe here because there are no locks on the building doors. They tell you utilities will be around $20 a month when they are over $100 per person(even in the summer). They take the entire building's utilities and divide them among everyone. They also lie about how many units they have left to press you to sign. There is a strange man who walks around the complex shouting racial slurs and yelling "f you" while flipping you off. The tanning bed is always broken along with the treadmills. The hot tub and pool are disgusting and never open. If you ask they always say it's a #1 priority; however, it never changes. I will NEVER be living here again. Horrible price for the conditions of these apartments and the crazy utility bills every month. If I could give a negative star rating this place would be negative 5 stars.

If you've had a tough day, Welch Ave is only two blocks away with plenty of bars and places to eat. Super close to get to, yet just far enough to not hear the music on crazy weekends. Most of the Frat houses and Sorority Circle are nearby. Cyride stops are just around the corner from the front door. This is by far the best location in Ames an Iowa State student could ask for. The apartments are spacious and, although slightly dated, very well taken care of. The service from the building managers, Alyssa and Sam, is impeccable. Alyssa puts a lot of effort in making living at University Towers homey, from her Christmas parties, to the bowl of candies she occasionally puts out for residents, and her always cheerful smile and attitude. If there's ever anything that needs fixing, count on Sam to be there for you. The permanent residents here are like family, and they generously provide home cooked meals every month in the hospitality room. They are also wonderful to talk to, and will enchant you with their life stories over coffee three times a week or a game of bridge. There is both outdoor and indoor parking, as well as a workout room, and a swimming pool. Rent is extremely reasonable especially considering the location, and most apartments have their own private balconies. I absolutely love my apartment!

I am a current resident in Prairie West. Since we are a family (my husband, two children and…read moremyself) we needed a spacious apartment that fits all our needs. The master bedroom was able to fit my daughters bed, our bed, a desk and its chair, a night stand and a dresser. All with of this and the room still has some space. The other bedroom also has a space for a desk and a nightstand, along with a king size bed. What is also great are the storage rooms. Other than the small ones, there's a big storage room that fits all our luggage, boxes, toys, books, etc. I was also keen to have an apartment with a washer/dryer in unit. That was a high necessity for us as a family with kids. Wendy, the property manager, is friendly and helpful. Just the right kind of manager you wish to have in the place you call home (away from home). Ryan handles the maintenance stuff on site. Cool and friendly man. I feel safe and comfortable to know he enters the apartment whether I am there or not. Any issue I had, small or big, was fixed the same day or the following day. They also have regular pest control (an outside company), so no bug issues. [I live on the second floor so don't know about the 1st floor though]. The neighborhood is quiet and safe. Never had any trouble with any neighbors. Although my kids are probably making noise and bothering our downstairs neighbors, they never complained. I am so grateful for that. Plenty of space for parking. Never had to park away from my building. 2 bus stops going to campus; they are 2-3 minutes walking distance. Another 2 bus stops go towards the mall/walmart. Same walking distance. You can still walk to the mall or campus if you'd like. About half an hour walking distance. So even if you depend on taking your bike or walk, it's not too far. I like their new website that helps pay and keep track of monthly rent, as well as submitting maintenance requests. There is a children park in the community. Not the best, but something nice if you just want to take the kids out without taking the car and going somewhere. The only downside I would say that the apartment is not new. Like cabinets and stuff are not new. Yet the apartment is clean and good. What was important for us also that the heater is central (you know the kind coming from the ceiling not the ones on the floor). On the whole, whether you are here with your family or a student who appreciates a good management company, a good neighborhood and a spacious apartment you will like Prairie West Apartments.
