Uniontown Mall is a mostly dead rural mall located in Uniontown, PA. This mall feels larger than it actually is. JCPenney is the only open anchor with mall access, while MAC.BID is external entrance only. Two other anchors had construction work going on in them at the time of my visit, but I cannot find details what they will be used for. Several parts of the ring road are in poor condition, but for the most part the parking lot is in fair condition. The interior store count of the mall is low with a handful of stores remaining. Go Gamer ended up being a useful stop, and there is still an arcade. Why do people visit this mall? The interior has a unique style and is painted an aqua/teel color that makes it stand out. It was worth stopping by to see even with the mall basically having no air conditioning and a few roof leaks. Unfortunately, Uniontown Mall is no longer useful as a shopping option. This has got to be the saddest mall in America and nearly vacant. One anchor store, JC Penny and a few chain and independent businesses inside, none of which were open except for the chain ones. The interior is dark and dreary and feels like the set of a horror movie. The lone food stand I saw, Auntie Ann's is vacating at the end of July. What shocked me most was a random Easter display in the middle of the mall where I'm assuming the Easter bunny used to be. When I was little, this mall felt so big. It would be packed, especially during the Christmas season. It's so sad to go there now, but I do love dead malls, so in my personal opinion it's still just as fun to go. The worst part is that the upkeep is lacking and by that I mean that it's not worth the money they'd spend on upkeep because nobody ever comes here. But what you need to understand, especially if you don't live around here or go here once a fortnight like I do, is that it's not going to get any better. Giving a bad review seems arbitrary at this point. The floors are dirty, trees are dead, and there's a pole holding up part of the ceiling, and the roof is leaking. But it's nothing REALLY offensive. Lots of mall walkers come here and it must be a good spot to walk in. When I was young, there were 4 anchors, now only 1 remains which is Penney's. Scattered throughout there are a few other places that have managed to hold on but most of the businesses that were here have moved down the road to various plazas. There is an antique store that I buy records from in the old Bon Ton. Most of the mall is abandoned, and I always catch myself looking at an old storefront and going "oh, this is where [blank] used to be". It can be really sad. I think the mall is nice. If you're from out of town you shouldn't go in expecting anything at all but if you're like me and want to revel in nostalgia, you may as well get your fill now before the place inevitably closes for good. Or, maybe you need a place to walk off the meal you just had at the Shogun Japanese Steakhouse just outside. Whatever the reason, I'd say visit this mall at least once in your lifetime, if only to pay respect to what it once was, and what it once meant to people. read more

I have been going to uniontown mall since i moved here over 20 years ago! Alot of the stores are no longer there but they did replace with other newer stores which i love that idea! Not everyone wants to see the same stores for years upon years so newer stores were much needed! I love the Spirit Halloween store....they have every costume you could think of and then some. I love the food court too but did not get to try out the newer restaurants that are in there now! I hope to see this mall get more stores opening because i would really hate to go to washington to shop! read more

Uniontown, I grew up in a town that has an even smaller population than yours, but the fact that you have a mall at all is impressive. Many storefronts were empty. Floor tiles were cracked, and paint on the walls and ceilings peeled. At least the mall has a JCPenney, American Eagle, Bath & Body Works, Auntie Anne's, Gene and Boots Candies, a few restaurants, etcetera. This mall actually is not bad for a small town, but I in adulthood have lived in large cities and have seen better, so I must give a low rating. Sorry. read more

I've come here a hand full of times and I'm never wowed. The mall seems to be dying with half the stores open and the other half vacant. Not many food choices in the mall, but there are some around the mall. I think the only fast food place is the sub shop. read more

One review...from one person...from California. Now, let's discuss why this mall is the way it is. Uniontown Mall was built in 1972, much like the malls in Indiana, Johnstown and Altoona. This meant back then that malls were just for shopping, read that as no food court. UM still does not have a food court, but that doesn't mean much. Yes, I do agree that UM needs an update, but it's not really needed. Unless there's a population boom sometime soon in Fayette County. While in college this was the mall that was closest to were I lived and I frequented it often. If the prior reviewer were there during that period of time, she could definitely say what she said about the mall and really mean it. As for the mall being killed by WalMart opening nearby, not so true, that WalMart was there for years before moving just up the road to a different location. If anything, building of WalMart, Target and the likes nearby probably brought in many more shoppers. For a mall of it's size it does have a little bit of everything you need. They have their anchor stores that do well for the area. Of course they have their chain stores such as American Eagle Outfitters, Hot Topic and PacSun. They also have a little bit of local still inside. They do also have some restaurants attached. The Boston Beanery still remains, The Grotto took over the Garfield's location, a Shogun Japanese Steakhouse, and Rosa Pizza and Subway are inside the mall. This mall, even though it wasn't remodeled recently, still looks good. I mean it doesn't fell like you are walking through the early 1980s at least. If you find the right store that still sits empty you can peer through the front and look in and see how an old American Outfitters use to look like before the went out of business. Being from the area,I can tell you that for all of it's failings as a mall,it is still a cornerstone of social life in this area. Fayette County has watched its glory days as a coal,steel and manufacturing economic force disappear,and now it is relegated to the service industry, with little of it 's former blue collar middle class swagger. NAFTA and the EPA have done more damage to this area ,than any Communist invasion ever envisioned during the cold war. To clear up a misconception about having a food court,this mall did indeed have one located where the Bon Ton now sits. There was a clothing store called Stanyan Street that used to play Led Zeppelin where all the stoners and hippies would hang I didn't have a clue what Stanyan Street was until I moved to CA and went to the panhandle where Haight Ashbury is. Sure enough,the original Stanyan Street,filled with stoners and hippies. Hopefully the Marcellus shale energy boom can bring this place back to a thriving economy again. read more

Firstly, I don't just live by this mall, I also work in it. Nope, it won't affect my opinion, nor will it cause any sort of bias. In short, this mall is an important Fayette County fixture, one that should deserve to continue to be just that, but needs some things to happen for that to occur. From a consumer's perspective, this mall has everything that I would need, personally. A music store, a couple places to eat, some specialty shops to find strange wares and a Sears complete with Auto Center. Why is all of this important to me? Its pretty simple. I don't shop at Wal-Mart. OK, I'm being kind, I REFUSE TO. Aside from all of the information that's come to light in the past 10 years, both through news articles, exposes, and even films (Capitalism: A Love Story, watch it) I refuse to shop at Wal-Mart because this area is proof as to how it can destroy a smaller area. One reviewer stated how the mall killed the downtown shopping district, and now the consumer cycle is turning the mall into an endangered species. Its somewhat true, but the downtown district was also hurt badly by disrepair and a steadily decreasing population. What once made Uniontown a great place to live and economically thriving is now no longer true. Its now a wasteland filled with under-educated residents with little money to spend. That is, unless you get a federal check. Then every first of the month may as well be Christmas. I stated that some things needed to happen for the mall to return to form. For one, the place is in need of some cosmetic upgrades. The roof leaks both in stores and in the main hallways after hard rains, so sidestepping a bucket or two isn't out of the question after a summer thundershower. The a/c units are ancient, so they frequently require service. Finally, the layout at times just isn't too appealing. There's nothing wrong with single floor malls, but this one just feels kind of wasted. There are spaces currently not occupied which leaves some corridors feeling empty, like a commercial graveyard. I've heard rumors about rent costs and other things being the cause of this, and I believe it, but I'm also not seeing much being done to solve this issue. LIKE ADVERTISING. Without even speaking about the physical mall itself, you know, the BUILDING and STORES INSIDE IT, I can say that advertising is the weakest point of this business. Being from the area, I scavenge local newspapers and watch some local television every now and again. I don't see much of anything for this mall in either avenue. Why not? Why is it that customers frequently need to ask clerks when the mall closes? People from this area should know based on the information being constantly available to them, but they don't. Why not post a holiday hours calender in the newspaper so Christmas shoppers know when they can come out, or plan their shopping trip? Finally, instead of having special events at the mall primarily on weekends, why not aim to attract events daily, and make the mall a place to go for just about any block of life? Its no longer the 90's. The mall is no longer the place to hang out on a friday night. I should know, I used to go up to this mall every Friday evening, and the hallways and stores would always been jam-packed with people. These days, modern technology keeps consumers indoors without a need to go somewhere else for fun. Given the area, this place should be jumping at all times, but without a reason to go, why go? Anyone who reads this, I encourage to go to the mall. Not just because its a place that really isn't all that bad and houses some awesome workers (come to FYE, I'll get you what you need) but also because its a better alternative than Wal-Mart. That place is constantly a madhouse. You'd have to be an asylum patient to want to be in that mess when you shop. Plus, you should go to a place where the people who work there are experts, not just meaningless busybodies who's prime directive is to stock a stinking shelf. You know, someone you can TALK TO about the products you're interested in, and they say something other than, "oh, that's not my department." But, I'm probably living in a dream world. read more

Sad. I'll still continue to frequent this mall as I am from Fayette county and Tbh I'm thankful we still have a mall to shop at. Plus all of the other malls are an hour or more drive away. I have been to this mall as both a customer and as a former employee. It's sad to see this mall continue to go downhill. There are buckets everywhere throughout the mall to catch the rain as the roof leaks. Plus, Burlington and Dunham's just went under so the only anchor store left is J.C. Penney's. I do love American eagle and the new antique store and I love Aeropostale and rue 21, bath and body works etc, I could go on. But it's sad to see the mall continue to go downhill. The only time it's busy is around Christmas time. People often say it's because Fayette county is a poor area or because of the Walmart super center being up the road, but I think the opposite. There is obviously a lot of residents still in the area who spend money as every restaurant is packed every weekend and Walmart is always busy. I just think it's the lack of interest in the mall stores and the lack of care that is put into the mall that is causing it to go under. Maybe fix the leaking roof. Maybe charge less for rent each month so stores want to stay and maybe add more stores to the mall that interest all demographics. I enjoy the stores at the mall but I am a female in my 20s. I can see though why others don't shop at the mall. If someone has a little boy where do you take them to shop for clothes l besides J.C. Penney? What store up there caters to older ppl for clothing besides J.C. Penney? Plus there's a lack of other types of stores. I am happy to see an antique store at the mall but I think adding a few other stores like that will help the mall out or perhaps a grocery store like there was back in the day. Instead of going to Walmart for groceries and clothes, one could visit the mall instead as a one stop shop. Also, Sears is now gone so nowhere in the mall to buy appliances or tools. Wow this place has really gone to hell. I used to love hanging out here with my friends but now it's run down and hardly any stores I feel very awkward going into the mall. There is hardly anywhere to eat and the food is over priced. It is the most complicated thing to get a hold of costumer service to so good luck with that read more
