In my part of Utah County you get horrible speeds with the phone company or pretty fast download,…read morebut horrible upload with the cable company. Plus, they charge an arm and a leg for it. Utopia finally came to the neighborhood and I could not be happier. They installed quickly, and the service has been flawless so far. There is a large selection of ISPs available, but most of them are suspect in my mind. XMission is the only one with a total usage cap. However, even as a heavy user I've not hit it. By having the cap, it's easier to handle people who abuse the bandwidth setting up spam servers or torrent servers. They are also the only one meeting state of the art security standards like SOC2. Back to Utopia. It just works. I have 250Mbs up and down. That allows me to do full backups of my home to the Cloud. I could never do that with the pitiful upload speed the competition has. Plus it's far cheaper.

As an electrician I just can't for the life of me figure out why that would ever be a good idea. There was sewage leaking through every faucet, drain and toilet.. spraying up onto the air!! This wasn't just her sewer main but also their client's! So apparently their practices are most likely shady and against code. (Classic lazy Utahn business tactics.) My mom had to go stay in a hotel which she couldn't work in due to needing her Internet at home to work. She lost days of work, sleep and had the stress of her house being covered in sewage! I'd say literally go with anything else.

Can we trust connectivity provided by Strata networks? I…read morehave had a mixed experience with Strata Networks. While their service works okey at times, RELIABILITY has been a concern. There have been instances where the internet connection gets interrupted without any prior notice. Occasional outages are understandable since these systems depend on electrical infrastructure, but when disruptions happen frequently, it becomes difficult to consider it 'normal'. This can be especially frustrating during important virtual meetings or conferences, where even a short interruption can cause significant issues. Although customer support does respond and resolves the problem (for the time being), the recurrence of the issue is something that should be addressed more proactively. In terms of performance, I have also noticed inconsistencies. With my current $65 plan, I am getting around 80-90 Mbps download speed but only about 5 Mbps upload. This could be due to local factors like cheap or rusty coaxial cables, but it still impacts overall experience, especially for tasks that rely on a decent upload speed. For comparison, services like Starlink offer roughly 100-105 Mbps download and around 30 Mbps upload (in Vernal sky) at a lower monthly cost of about $35 or $50, which makes it a compelling alternative. Overall, Strata Networks is a 'just okey' ISP, but there is definitely room for improvement in reliability and performance consistency. These are important factors to consider when choosing an internet provider. When a provider faces no real competition, service quality shouldn't suffer--but in this case, it often feels like it does.

We switched to Strata with the same hardware and wiring and instantly were moving at 5x the speed of SBT. One month later we haven't had a single problem. SBT still requested a final month of payment for service we cancelled and weren't going to use, even though the service didn't work right for the two months prior. We used SBT for just over three years of business internet. For the first two years they were great. The final year, however, were constant connection problems. They did always respond quickly to correct, and when requested, provided service credits for the downtime. The latest instance was handled so poorly though and forced us to move to Strata. For the last year we've experienced latency issues frequently, which are important for me (remote worker). Hardware resets on their end always seemed to solve it for a while. Then, in January, our speeds dropped to around 1-2mbps (from the paid for 10mbps). After sending multiple techs and making multiple configuration changes and reboots on their end over the course of a month, still no improvements. They finally ended up blaming our hardware and/or wiring. I figured it was possible so I overnighted replacement hardware and flew in to diagnose. They sent a tech back the day after I arrived and he plugged into both our new hardware and directly to his and still only 1-2mbps. He rebooted their WAP and then we were up to about 6-8mbps here and there. Tests to different locations on their testing tool yielded different results. He claimed he wasn't too knowledgeable but that he still thought there were problems with our hardware or wiring. It seemed like it was probably a combination of problems with their hardware needing reboots and their upstream. At this point I really had nothing else to do but try Strata's fiber option since even brand new hardware wasn't resolving the problem. While our wiring is old, we easily transfer over 100mbps on it internally, so I was confident it is able to handle a 10mbps connection speed. Within an hour of calling Strata for a 50mbps down/10mbps up connection they had a tech there and 5 minutes later it was turned on. Plugged in and immediately we were receiving the advertised up and down speeds through our hardware and wiring. We were even bursting to up to 80mbps before the throttling on their end started. For grins, I plugged in the old firewall hardware that SBT claimed was the problem and still Strata's advertised speeds of 50 down/10 up. So hundreds of dollars later in new hardware and overnight shipping costs, plus productivity and downtime for January and February, we were finally back to a reliable internet connection with Strata. I emailed SBT with the results of this test and requesting to cancel since it didn't seem like their service was going to be consistent or fast enough for us going forward. They obliged but reminded me we'd still need to pay them for one more month of service (that doesn't work as advertised). I politely requested reimbursement for the months the service didn't work properly as well as for the costs for new hardware and overnight shipping that we didn't need to spend. They haven't responded. I get things happen with tech. I deal with it every day. I wasn't even going to ask them to reimburse for the hardware and shipping costs - it seemed trivial. And I wouldn't have written this review. We may have even been a future customer again if they were able to resolve their reliability and speed problems. But, to request a payment for another month that I'm clearly not going to use, after all these problems, really left a bad taste after an already bad situation.

I was having trouble with getting my elderly V.A uncle used to where his channels were at (we get so many more than DISH! and channels we actually watch). I lost my paperwork and couldn't find the number for NewStar and just searched for the DirecTv number online. I called into DiredTv wanting some help with figuring out what to do and I could barely understand the agent on the line (language barrier) and they basically said they would have to send a technician out to me and it would cost me $40-$99. I declined, because I just don't have the money for that. Thought I was just stuck and very dissapointed. One week later I got a follow up call from NewStar just to see how I was liking my New DirecTv sytem. Let me say I am pretty embarrassed at how I treated the young lady on the phone. I vented and was very upset and she didn't interrupt me even once! She listen ACTUALLY LISTENED. Then she fixed it all right over the phone, I didn't even need a technician and that saved me time and money right there! She went through step by step with my uncle of making a favorites list and with the protection plan I had got from them they were able to send me out a remote that fit my uncles needs even better, for free ($15 plus shipping if I didn't have that protection plan). Remote got to us in 2 days and they had already setup a favorites list with my uncle and he was happier than he had ever been in his 80 years of different tv services (he is now deceased). I wish I had the name of that young lady and I hope she sees this review. To that agent if you do see this review I want to thank you and apologize again for how poorly I treated you on the phone. The main thing I have learned through this experience is to go through a authorized dealer for anything I can! Even when I didn't know it they had my back, THANK YOU New Star!!!!!
