The parking lot space are tight and when this place is full you might as well keep on driving. All in all...a good place to stop and shop.

Most of my visits here have actually been for that - business for one of my clients family attorney. Several floors up after getting clearance is a fancy suite where I'm sure high profile law meetings take place as it is extremely high end looking and assume the other floors look the same. In the main area is an extension of what Newark Penn Station is like, New York Penn as well with various shops to consider before you travel. From what I can tell it serves it's purpose. An upscale office building complete with security, an art gallery on the lower level but shops that offer passage to Downtown Newark and Newark Penn. There is a parking garage just outside of the building that I find handy in my visits here.

If you are traveling into Newark Penn Station, you can get to Mulberry Street (one block from Broad Street) through Gateway's skyway. On your way, you can get a coffee or a quick grab-and-go snack at one of the shops inside. There are two Dunkin' Donuts, two Subways, and a few non-big-chain eateries (Nagoyaka, City Beans, COTIDIANO, Metro Café, etc.). There are also a few convenience stores, a New York Sports Club, and the Gateway Project Spaces. You can also enter the Hilton Gateway from inside Gateway Center. Gateway is comprised of four corporate buildings (1, 2, 3, and 4 Gateway). Midday, office workers will flood the skyway getting lunch or heading outside during their break. On a Devils night, many fans use the Gateway to get to Prudential Center, which is on Mulberry Street. Again, the best thing about Gateway is its convenience. My only forewarning is - during off-peak times of the day - be alert. While there is security during the work week, security presence isn't as visible during the weekend. I had a bad experience where a homeless man grabbed my arm when I wouldn't give him money, and no one was around to help me. This isn't a common occurrence, but just be careful.

When I was a little toddler in Garwood, my dad would take me out here just to walk around. There was an "open space" area with visible steel structures where I used to just run around briefly during those times. Today, that "open space" is still there. This strip mall has two anchor stores. Since the early 90s, those anchor stores were Walgreens and Kings. During the 90s, they had some other notable stores that I remember either going into or passed by when I was little. Those stores included Radio Shack, Encore Books (I bet a lot of you during those times remember this store!), Dress Barn, an Eye DR place, a liquor store, and a laundromat. The roof tops on the strip mall were green, and some green circles were visible on some parts of the strip mall as well. The parking lot is huge, and reasonably sized for all of the patrons here. The parking lot is also for patrons only, since they don't like commuters parking for the purpose of boarding trains. In the 90s, the parking area revealed a lot of old, faded parking stripes and designs, which proved that the parking layout was different long before I existed. But fast forward to today, the old parking decals are long gone, and the lot itself is quite smoother than before. Today, the stores that are still in business since the 90s include Kings, Dress Barn, an Eye Dr place (with different name), and a laundromat. Encore Books was gone and the space was probably taken over by Pet Valu. Walgreens moved further down the road, and Crunch Fitness took their former spot, thus making them an anchor. The liquor store got replaced by GNC. The steel structures were covered up in the "open space" area. The roof tops are still green today, as well as the circles, except for the one circle on top of Investors Bank. Not sure why that was painted with a different color. Overall, this strip mall serves the purpose of catering to the patrons in a very small town. I've never had an issue with parking here at all. Walking from one end of the strip mall to the other is pleasant. But be patient when trying to make a left turn into the strip mall from South Avenue as the opposing traffic can be very hectic at times. Cheers!

It's always fun to see somebody jump in and grab the first to review on something that I created. Just kidding. I don't really mind and more power to them. What does that saying mean anyway. It's a good shopping plaza with Sunmerry Bakery and a bunch of other stuff. Parking is usually okay, although you have to walk a little ways to get to the stores as it is an old-style mall, so in the winter it is no fun at all.

That being said, I would recommend 2nd Ave Thrift store in Union (very cheap and fashionable) or Anthem off North Union Avenue (for fashion and in-style clothing) for those younger and smaller women looking to go thrifting.

I went out of my way to Cranford to check out this store (in celebration of National Thrift Day-- today). I passsed by around 4:30-ish pm and there was a notice on the door saying the shopkeeper would be back at 5. The notice said: "Stepped out to Laundromat and Post Office. Return 5 pm." It doesn't make sense to me to go do laundry during business hours? Shouldn't errands like that be done during the lunch hour if anything? But it didn't bother me at first I just walked around and came back at 5. And waited. And waited. I waited 1 hour for the shopkeeper to come back (until 6pm) and still no sign of the person coming back. After a while it was kind of hot to wait outside and I felt really weird standing outside for so long so I stepped into a café and watched from the seat. By the time it was 6, I couldn't even check out the vintage shops in other neighboring towns I was hoping to. All in all a disappointing day. It was just kind of unprofessional and disrespectful of customers' time and energy. In total I came, spent 90 minutes, energy, gas, parking money, etc etc just to come see this one store and waited outside the store for a significant amount of time kind of looking like an idiot...not a great impression. I was really patient waiting an hour and a half and I just don't want other customers to go through that. To be clear stuff happens and so I don't take it personally but it was just unfortunate. If I'm in the area again I'd still love to still swing by and try giving it another go.
