The last time I went here the chips I got were expired like 3 months post expiration date and the chips were stale and I got a stomach ache

This store was fairly cool - great selection of drinks but apparently they changed management or ownership. Today I walked in, and guy at counter had his BARE FEET on them. Just no. read more

This is an everyday store for locals or around the neighborhood but it just closed recently that I thought they just went for a holiday which they do every year but learned that the store is permanently closed. The couple owner had to retire from business. read more

This Market corner store has such a selection of food it is surprising! I forget it is actually is double the size of a typical SF retail store. Just ask them if they have what you're looking for. Their prices are lower than average, and they are open 7 days a week! Mitchel's ice cream! read more

Unimart can't be rated unilaterly on their unpriced beers and pricery sodas. viewed as a multi- dimensional purveyor of american and asian/Filipino goods, they deserve 4 stars for the reasonable prices for such a diverse inventory. store is strangely configured. only one way in and out. (past the cash register). no doubt to disabled shoppers looking for freebies. buys: "sunflower crackers" orange cream sandwich (1.29) -from phillipines -tasty, the bad: contains: palm oil take outs: -fast, courteous -groceries priced, scanner used at checkout. read more

I kinda wish I'd known about this place when I lived in SOMA. Good fruit, friendly customer service and really well priced candy. I could have been feeding my mentos addiction for years! Unimart is a much more reasonable option for food in this area, even with the other corner market which reeks of plastic I think their pries are better. Wish I'd known about this back in the day! *Sigh read more

I've been frequenting this spot for over 6 years now and I still really like it. It's the perfect one-stop-shop for typical groceries as well as Asian specialties. They have an emphasis on Philippine foods and products, but pretty much anything Asian you'll find here. The place is well-kept in an organized and clean manner. While I'm a little scared of the meat section, everything else is great. On Saturdays (morning to afternoon) they have traditional Philippine BBQ skewers, which are incredible! Hmmm, I should have that for lunch soon... read more

This location is closed on Sunday in spite of the listings online, giving it three stars anyway

Good prices. Decent hours. Have all the basics and necessities + a nice selection of candy and drinks .

This is a find for uniquely Filipino groceries. I no longer have to wait for a package from the Philippines (notified via my mom) for authentic products. It's all here. Where else can you get pickled green mangoes, bagoong (fermented anchovies), polvoron (powdered milk confection -- I love this stuff, but you have to eat it a certain way or else you'll choke) with a hint of ube (purple yam), langka (jackfruit), and bangus (milkfish) all in one place? The selection is a good mix, considering the relatively tiny size of the store. The organization of the aisles, however, include wraparounds and dead ends -- in essence, they used some weird disconnected labyrinth model. Overlooking all that, it's my go-to for Filipino groceries and ingredients. Plus, this is actually the Power Block for bike trinkets and repairs (Mike's Bikes), Starbuck's, Asia SF, fabulous modern architecture design (1234 Howard), and other glimmering highs (I don't want to give out all of my secrets, but one of it does include a giant, painted, wood replica of the Guan Yin). read more

A different kind of corner market -- Filipino! So it's light on the produce and doesn't have all the homemade goodies of the Vietnamese or Korean stores. Mostly canned and packaged stuff. On the other hand it's extra big, bright, and clean. A big plus: the selection of fish and shrimp is small but it looks a heck of a lot fresher and less contaminated than most little Asian markets. read more

Unimart - a street corner in a city - Grocery Near Me - San Francisco, California

Aling Mary of Unimart how could I forget to review you?! You've been here in my hood for soo long and have put up with so much of the crap the hard city neighborhood has been giving you. Never mind that you are just right next to a Homeless shelter on the corner of 8th Street and have to deal with all the weird cracked out people that come out from this this once wonderful neighborhood of ours. You manage to always be as tough in the outside but a softy in the inside. I commend you for being such a soldier to our now dissolving cracked neighborhood. I surely miss you and the for always being understanding. Providing credit to your neighbor customer when needed and for treating each customer with honest and blunt character..this is what makes you such an interesting neighborhood mini store to go to. If you love Asian infused cooking, you'll find most of what you need here. I don't however like the meat section and the fish section as well. As much as I love this store, I would stay away from trying to buy fresh here, I would rather invade the frozen section of boxed sea food items from my native land. You withered it all Aling Mary and I hope your establishment stay longer...long enough for you to see me have grand-kids because I've been coming to you for nearly 16+ years now. More power to you!! I still come to you for my number one staple (Rice).. I refuse to buy rice anywhere else because your price is reasonable. I would however have to minus points on the "not so fresh items", other than that you always make my day! ;-) read more

I like Unimart. I've been in SF my entire life and just discovered it on Yelp! just a few years ago. To me it's a hidden treasure. Like the old neighborhood grocery stores from way back. And I have favorite items I, typically, purchase at Unimart. The owner and her husband are friendly to me. And, I've noticed, to others from different walks of life. They deal with the a lot of the SoMa undesirable denizens. Typical of the old SoMa. Even worse, but slowly changing. I'm sure they had incidents they've dealt with over-the-years. I'm a native San Franciscan, who never left, but born into this neighborhood in the mid-1950's. Just blocks away, walking distance. First generation Filipino-American here. I only speak English. My parents were from the third generation Filipino wave of immigrants (post-WWII) to the U.S. I lived in SoMa for the first 11 mo's of my life, baptized at St Patrick's, later a wedding ring bearer at St Joseph's. Family moved to another area of SF. And I lived in 7 different SF areas before settling in the Mission/Bernal/Potrero. Not far from SoMa. So I truly return to my roots. Unimart has brought me back. Sometimes I drive to Daly City, SSF or M.O.M. in SF/Excelsior because of fresher vegetables or items not found at Unimart. Or go to my neighborhood Latino produce/grocery store. I believe in supporting the small businesses, as well as, shopping at mainstream Asian and U.S. supermarkets; and big box stores. It takes only minutes for me to get to Unimart. It's a great quick stop, Filipino food specialties, no major waiting at all. I like the quaintness and neighborhood-like character of Unimart. They offer a lot of general imported Filipino food products and other grocery items. Their prices are slightly higher than Peninsula supermarkets. But not by a lot. And you would have to drive to the Peninsula and plan to stock. Unimart's products carried at American stores are cheaper. Unimart offers a good varierty of Filipino products, even frozen, that serves the Filipino community in SF. More convenient for urban dwellers who don't/can't drive or not want to drive to the Peninsula. Or have to wait in lines and crowds at the SF Asian supemarkets. And, if driving to Unimart, easy to park on weekdays and weekend days. Unimart is the old-fashioned neighborhood grocery store. That continues to serve the SoMa and other SF Filipino residents and visitors. As well as, all of the general public. It preserves the rich history of Filipinos in SF. The presence is still strong with some restaurants, Archipelago Books, the cultural and community centers, community networks, a veteran's support org, other Filipino grocery stores, and more. I thank Unimart for reminding me where I come from. And got me more into Filipino cooking. Something I should have learned from my mom. Another thing about Unimart - the owner sure gives great tips on how I should cook certain dishes. read more

I've been looking for a pilipino mart in the city for some time and I just happened to stumble upon this place. They had a great deal of hard to find food items. Oddly enough the clientele is quite the motley crew, but given the area it's quite appropriate. read more

Solid corner shop! Had much more grocery selection than I expected. It's conveniently located near my apartment! Friendly cashier!

We really like this Filipino grocery store because they carry the traditional ingredients, including vegetables. The owners recognize regulars and always ensure you have all the ingredients you need for your dish. I only wish they had a better Filipino bread and pastry selection. read more

One of the few places in the city where you can get drinks in METAL cans. Metal cans are hard to find these days. Going around groceries like Safeway with a magnet is a complete waste of time. "The lady that runs the place is only friendly to people of her own race." I have to disagree with Mark S.'s statement as I am not the same race as the lady and she has been friendly to me many times. Is she always friendly? No. Do I take it personally? No. Some of the customers, for various reasons, are pretty rude. Beyond that, she is almost always behind the counter. I have been going in twice a week on average for three years and she has been behind the counter every time but one. Having worked in retail I'm impressed she is friendly at all. I can't speak to the quality of the Filipino stock but I agree with whoever mentioned the BBQ skewers. They are incredible. read more

This was an okay little grocery store. There was a lot of Asian stuff and a lot of Mexican stuff, so we would probably go here if we couldn't find ingredients at the next closest store, Trader Joe's. Price-wise it's definitely higher than Safeway or Trader Joe's, but I guess that's to be expected when it is a small family-run shop that has been open for a long time. I didn't get the sense that it was a particularly well cared-for or hygienic, but I suppose that's okay considering most of the food is sealed. I need to go back to take a look at the fresh meat and seafood in the back, as that would be very convenient to have a close by supplier of cheap fish. Anyway, I do intend to go back again, especially for those hard-to-find ingredients if we're cooking special food! read more

This is close by and much cheaper than Harvest Urban Market. You can get staples like canned corn and tomato sauce and also some asian items unavailable in a big grocery store. read more

Mary, is very nice and helpful. She always lets me know what she has in stock. She knows I'm a gluten for Pilipino@ BBQ skewers and desserts, which is why she always offers to heat what I buy. Somehow she is able to keep up with all her regulars names, including myself, even after my second visit . It' probably because my dad and his co-workers are always in here buying lotto tickets and Pilipino delicacies. When ever I'm in the neighborhood, I usually stop in for treats, conveniently right before I hit the freeway. read more
