I truly don't know where to begin. I have never experienced anything quite like this. Melvin was consulted by me and my husband to build stairs and install 2 doors, one to which he had to create from an existing window and the other was a replacement for a rotting damaged door. I don't want make this a long drawn out read review. I will just make it simple and sweet and list all of the things that were incorrect from start to finish an incomplete finish First and foremost, he posted our home without our consent. You will see that listed on his Facebook page " if you zoom in closely, you can see the poor craftsmanship to ensure that everything that I've listed is the truth" Upon hiring Melvin to complete the job we discussed the job that we desired to be completed and he agreed that it was something that he could complete. We agreed to move forward after receiving the quote. We paid him half of the cost of the project upon receiving the invoice and he stated the earliest he start the job was the coming Saturday May 25, 2024 Upon starting the job he started at the window that was created into a door. Window door convert: The door does not lock or latch properly you will see in the video below, there is about a half of an inch of gab where the door does not lock and latch properly He sawed through the power line because he did not properly deconstruct the wall He destroyed the brickwork because he did not have the proper tools to cut the brick properly He put the brick molding on the inside of the door after refuting and telling me that that's how it was from the manufacture He built the stairs out of non-pressure-treated wood and old wood that he decided to build the treads with Existing door: There is about a 1 inch or a half a inch gap from the lock to the latch. The door is not secured. We can push right through it in the entire door will come out. In my personal opinion, he is not trustworthy. He's very dishonest and his craftsmanship is extremely poor. So I am writing this review to warn other homeowners to not allow someone into your home without doing your property due diligence and making sure that they can complete with proof of credentials the job that they have signed up for If you "Google" Unifirm, you will see all of the "1 Star ratings from google, yelp and possibly Angie's list" to which one of those ratings is of the door that he completed and the bad craftsmanship shows it looks the exact same as a door that he completed in our home. read more

Melvin dropped off the face of the planet after mostly completing a job. He installed a new door, did some concrete work, but it looks terrible. He refused to return calls, texts, and emails. Once he was paid, he refused to complete the work. read more

One thing I can't stand is someone making excuses, especially from someone claiming to have a reputable business. Good reliable help can be so hard to find at times so it is so important to be a person of your word and have tight communication. Melvin was supposed come by my house to take a look at some work that I wanted done. 20 minutes after the appointed time for him to show up and after calls and texts, it was considered a no show. After leaving a review for him on Thumbtack for not showing up, he quickly responds afterwards but makes excuses of why he didn't respond to the texts or calls. Interesting how he saw the review to respond but did not respond to the calls or texts. He throws family into the mix as if I didn't have one and makes it seem like it was okay to be so lackadaisical about not communicating because he had to watch his own kids at the time of the appointment. He further makes a comment that he is a business first individual. How can that be, sir? Instead of respecting the time of the customer and sticking with acknowledging the error on his part, he just made it seem like his situation was not understood and kept going on about the bad review for the no-show. According to these other bad reviews, I would say this is the norm for him. I do not recommend this business. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. Melvin previously did work in my home and I was thoroughly pleased. As such, I hired him to do painting of my cabinets. He provided the estimate and stated that the price included sanding, priming and painting (Pic 1). He then tells me to get 3 gallons of paint and 3 gallons of primer. In my mind, I'm thinking that's a lot of paint, as it only took half a can for a huge job I previously had done. I oblige, as he's supposed to be expert. He arrived to paint, introduce him to my husband...he sets up and begins, which based upon previous experience, I gave him his space and allowed him to do his thing. My husband and I were conversing jokingly about my Christmas tree and if he didn't help, he was going to get put out and he jokingly says " If I get put out, I'm going to come back shooting." I said to Melvin, "pay him no mind, he's just talking crazy." My husband then says, "Melvin if it hits the fan, just duck, don't run." Again I say "he's just talking trash" and tell my husband "that's enough." Not once did Melvin mention anything about being offended as he's still taping off. I leave to run a few errands and my husband is at home with Melvin. I return and Melvin says he's finish. Initially, I thought it was just primer on the cabinets, so I ask and Melvin says, "no, I'm done, but they still need to dry." So i take a walk around and notice there were a bunch of missed spots. I bring it to his attention, he proceeds to correct it. I then look at my island and he says you will get a better view of that color once everything dries, I said okay. As I'm continuing to walk around, I then notice that there is paint blast all over my newly refinished hardwood floors..,which confused me, as no painting was conducted in said areas. He cleans it up, then he says, I'll send your invoice once I have better service. I say okay, he leaves. A few hours later, I walk in and look at the dried cabinets and I was so disappointed. Not only did he do a piss poor job, he left paint all over my floor and appliances. I messaged him and expressed the fact that he made a mess and I them ask, what can be used to remove the paint. He tells me, (pic 2) and asks me to send pics. He then responds and says my husband's comments about shooting made him feel Uncomfortable and because he didn't want to leave me hanging he went ahead and finished the job. I apologized on behalf of my husband and my husband attempted to call to apologize but Melvin didn't answer. Needless to say, I wish he would have left, because his work was awful. He did not sand or prime as he stated and he also did not do a good job painting. I honestly want to take him to court for a breach of contract, as this is not the work of someone who knows what they are doing. I will NEVER hire him to do anything else for me. Especially after finding out that he posted on FB saying he let me go because my husband was insecure. When in actuality, he knew he didn't know what he was doing and knew he had ripped me off, equating to the last of our business relationship. I'm totally annoyed, as I have to find someone to correct this horrible job and get my floors back up to par. If you are thinking about hiring Melvin for painting, please don't. Painting is not his ministry! His lack of professionalism makes it hard to trust vendors to come in your home and respect what you've worked hard to take care of. Mr. Melvin Koger of Unifirm Handyman Services is lacking in skill and professionalism. He assured me that he could assemble and install my 10x12 Hardtop Gazebo. He came to my home on 03/25/2022 to assess the job at hand and agreed to return on 03/26/2022 at 8:00am. Well, he arrived on 03/26/2022 at 9:30am and finally completed job around 9:00pm. On 03/27/2022, I noticed the hardtop was hanging loosely blowing in the wind. I telephoned him on 03/28/2022 and he informed he would not be able to return until 03/29/2022 for which he did. He did not have a ladder to reach the top of structure and therefore I provided him mine. He assured me that he had successfully secured hardtop with leftover screws from his initial assembly/installation of gazebo. On 03/30/2022, hardtop had fallen to the ground, I telephoned Mr. Koger multiple times leaving voice messages all to no avail. Eventually, I obtained another service provider who was able to correct the haphazard job done by Mr. Melvin Koger. His poor work ethics and limited skillset with this project has left me filled with regret. To all seeking services with Unifirm Handman Services, you are urged to proceed with caution! DO NOT waste your TIME, MONEY, and TRUST with Mr. Melvin Koger. Sincerely, Dissatisfied Customer-B'ham, Alabama read more
