The crowd outside should tell you something good is going on here. I came on a lazy Sunday afternoon at 3pm and people were standing in the streets drinking their longnecks and (presumably) waiting for their tables. Lots of outdoor seating make this a nice space, and the American bbq feel is fetching.
As I was dining alone and not necessarily inclined to waiting for a table I just took a seat at the bar. No, not that bar, the one at the burger grill. It's toasty, so on a cool SP day it might be perfect. Today, at 31 degrees, I cooked along with the burgers, but only broke a little sweat. It's also nice to watch the cook load the grill will wood and move the meat.
I took the waitress's recommendations (with my growing Portuguese), and ordered a Madalena and queijo chimchurri burger. The delicious French fries came first with a delicious herb-laced mayonnaise (but do NOT miss the "Ketchup Rústico"!). As I was quite hungry I thought I might finish them. Nope.
The burger was thick, meaty, juicy, and very red (something tells me this is standard in Brazil, so if you want it done, better say so). It was decent but I expected a bit more flavor, but I took a pretty basic choice, so next time I'll get a bit more adventurous (bacon, spiced cheddar, jalapeños, etc).
I'll definitely come back with friends, but as an infrequent red meat eater, I can't make this a usual stop. That being said, the meal was (very) satisfying and fulfilled the hamburger longing I'd been suffering for several days. read more
