It didn't feel like it was healing at all. Unfortunately I needed to have it looked at but this location was closed on Sunday and Monday. I didn't feel comfortable waiting so I went to another piercing shop to get it checked out. They told me that the jewelry I had wasn't good among other things and it was good I came in because it could have become infected. Now I know that different shops can be biased and have competition but I did change out the jewelry just to see if that would make a difference. It was like night and day. Within the next few hours my ear started to feel better. Then after a few days it got even better. Obviously my piercing will take time to heal but the pain I've been in has gone way down as it heals with the new jewelry. It was disappointing that I couldn't get this checked and that I needed to buy new jewelry and have it changed out.

First off, the timing of the appointment was 1.5 hours for just double ear piercings. She spent 30 minutes talking about the future of my ear, but a quick comment asking about future piercings would have been sufficient. It was too much. After signing the consent form, the piercer pulled out a thick binder and started showing me all kinds of pictures and scars and infections from piercings. That felt unnecessary. I told her I brought my sister to double check the piercings were straight as a light hearted comment. That ended making the process so much longer as she went into so much detail on the science of marking the ear. We did not need all the information on how she was going to pierce the ear, I just wanted it straight. At one point, we almost thought about leaving, but we had already invested an hour of our time. I felt uncomfortable trying to figure out how to move the appointment along without hurting her feelings. It became stressful as the customer. At the end of the day, the piercings are straight, the jewelry is good quality, and the piercer had good intentions. Although I just wish the appointment went smoother so we could of spent more time looking jewelry and potentially buying pieces. I felt exhausted by the end of the appointment.

Adam did my ear piercing and listened to where I wanted the new piercing and Adam double checked before we proceeded with the piercing. But what most impressed me was how he prioritized Sanitation. I think he must have changed his gloves four times after he touched every item needed for the process. He explained aftercare very well. Checkout was wonderful too, they made sure that I knew how to contact them at any time if I had any other questions or concerns after the fact. Oh, and they made sure I knew what the end cost would be even before the actual piercing so there are no surprises at checkout.

He's not just a skilled tattooer -- he's an artist and professional in the truest sense. His ability to translate an idea into something that feels both deeply personal and beautifully cohesive is unreal. He recently completed a full torso panel of my German shepherd, Stryder, in an Irezumi-inspired style, as well as two custom hand pieces -- and every step of the process was collaborative, thoughtful, and executed with precision. What I appreciate most is Tim's mix of humility, humor, and quiet confidence. He listens, gives honest feedback, and works with a level of care that shows in every line and aspect of the piece. The end result isn't just cool ink -- it's art that carries weight, intention, and soul. After nearly a decade with STTN, I can say this has been one of my best experiences yet. She is not heavy handed (no shade to artists that are heavy handed) and ensured to check-in with my husband & I periodically throughout the process to make sure we were both still doing okay. I've been very skeptical about getting a lady's face on my body since I've seen many botched faces but Hannah gave me the prettiest & cutest face I could've asked for! I've also seen plenty of botched American traditional eagle pieces and to say she NAILED IT is simply an understatement. My husband & I were both done in 4 hours and the price was extremely fair. We have already determined that we will be returning to her for our upcoming anniversary tattoos. Also, after the tattoo, Hannah offered us hot compresses. I've gotten tattooed at plenty of places in the past and have never had a hot compress. Let me tell you!!! The hot compress was life changing and felt like a nice warm hug on your tattoo. She informed us that it helped with the swelling & healing process and I can definitely tell a difference! I will never decline a hot compress moving forward haha. When we were there, we got to meet the other artist Andrew, who is also Hannah's mentor. He had great vibes & was a great conversationalist as well. We got to see his finished piece on someone else and it was DOPE! When we were done with our tattoos, she had Andrew look at both of them and received his seal of approval. I've had a few ideas of how I want tattoos to look and Andrew always gets the vision right on the first try. Andrew tends to be very available and is very speedy. I'm normally in and out within 30-45 min max. The pricing is also super reasonable. The vibe of the studio is great. The artists love to have fun and joke around with their clients and one another. I was pleased with the experience and interaction, and super happy with the way the bracelet looked...but it wasn't permanent or even close. It didn't even last six months and it cost more than the first bracelet I had (which, by the way, I have now had on my wrist for 2.5 years). I reached out to the studio to ask about getting it re-attached and no one ever responded. I have since gotten another bracelet elsewhere but was thinking about my experience from years ago here and was so disappointed by their poor workmanship and customer service that I felt I needed to share.

The website reservation system was a bit tricky to navigate but they were super responsive on instagram when I messaged them to make a group reservation. The building is located by crossroads and their space is on the second floor. The charm bar is across the hall from the permanent jewelry lounge. It's a small but comfortable and cozy space for a small group but I can imagine it being more chaotic with larger/multiple groups at once. It's $75+ tax for a bracelet with up to 7 charms or necklace with 5 charms. You can mix and match with most charms and any additional ones are an additional add on price. Me and my friends were super indecisive so we took a long time to pick out our charms. The girls were so sweet and patient with us. We ended up wandering over to the permanent jewelry side across the hall. Overall, we had such a good time making bracelets and although it is a bit of a pricey activity, it was definitely time well spent. I'd be interested in coming back to get a permanent jewelry piece. Highly recommend!

Once I chose my jewelry, I filled out an online form and waited for my piercer. Once Colin took me back to the piercing room (very clean room), he walked me through the process and explained in depth what to do and not do with a new piercing. I was able to ask him some questions about my existing cartilage piercing and I'm so grateful that I got some advice on it! I bought new jewelry for my helix piercing and during the appointment the piercer fitted it with a…read morebacking that was too short. Over the next few days I noticed it was pinching my ear and eventually the backing popped out completely. Thankfully I noticed when it happened because the jewelry itself is expensive and I could have easily lost it. I live about an hour away, so I wasn't able to return to the shop until about two and a half weeks later. When I came back and explained what happened, I was told there was nothing they could do because too much time had passed, so I would have to pay for a replacement backing. The employee told me they generally expect people to return within one week, maybe two, as a "good faith" measure, but she said there is no actual stated/written policy. I explained that I understood the idea of a good-faith time frame, but in this situation it was pretty clear that the backing had simply been sized incorrectly. If she had tried to put the earring back in with the original backing, it would have been obvious because it physically would not fit back into my ear at all. I was then told the most they could offer was 30% off the new backing because they couldn't "give away free jewelry." The piercer who helped me that day was very kind and actually came over while I was checking out to make sure the replacement backing had been comped, but the employee handling checkout said no because too much time had passed. I ultimately had to pay for the replacement backing as well as the fee to have it installed. After being a loyal Deep Roots customer for years and always recommend them to other people, this was really disappointing. I completely understand mistakes happen, but I would have expected a simple sizing mistake to be corrected without charging me again, especially after I had to drive an hour back to the shop to have it fixed. The lack of willingness to stand behind a mistake made during the original appointment and make things right has made me question whether I'll continue coming here in the future.

So when I moved to Seattle I really wanted to find a female artist. Just a preference. The first place i went was Madame Lazongas (suggested by a friend) The girl that did my tattoo (not vyvyn) didn't care to much about the tattoo or what it meant to me. When I went into look at the drawing it was nothing what I asked and she ended up not even making it very custom.. just using internet pictures as a design.. I was eager and didn't stand up for myself as I should.. so now I have a half assed tattoo for all the world to see.. My experience with Krysten at under the needle was a 100% opposite experience. She is so sweet and listened to EVERYTHING I asked, She is such a talented artist and great company for a 2 1/2 hour constant needle dragging session =D I plan to go back to her for ALL of my ink. I have had nothing but compliment after compliment from friends and random folk on the street... and I only have the outline! She is so flexible to work with and makes you feel very comfortable about getting inked! The entire shop has AMAZING artists to fit all sorts of styles and they all do amazing work!!!!!! This shop is amazing! Great people, great place to spend my time and spill some blood for an amazing piece of art. Matt Lentz is in my opinion one of the finest most professional and consistently excellent tattoo artists in the Pacific Northwest. I specifically flew in from Nashville, TN just so I could continue getting work done by Matt. Beyond being an amazing tattoo artist he is an excellent person, super kind, very easy to sit and talk with and has a great beard! Every piece I have from Matt and others I have seen on others he has worked with retain their quality and contrast much longer than other pieces I have gotten in the past. His use of color, excellent line work and composition are always spot on. He is the type of artist I have full trust in and have never been disappointed by any creative decisions I have put into his hands. He also is always open to my suggestions and gives solid advice on what works well and doesn't. I will continue recommending Matt to all of my friends and highly suggest you book with him. I have recently received my third tattoo from under the needle. I am thrilled.Megon did my last two tattoos. I have always been treated well here. As soon as I know what my fourth tattoo is going to be I will be getting here.I now have three beautiful flowers on the underside of each arm. I have a Camellia,a stargazer Lily, and have just added a beautiful and vibrant purple Peony. Each one of these flowers means something very vital and important to me. Now I can look at my beautiful tattoos every day and remember why I got them. I got my first tattoo in my early 50s. I did not know what to expect. I was treated kindly and respectfully. Whenever I was asked how do you want me to do this, all I could say is this my first tattoo I don't know what I want, simply do which you think is best. As other artists walk by they would stop and see how the tattoo I was receiving was going every time I got one. This felt like everybody cared. this has happened every time. I stopped by the other day on a whim to get some new work done. I've always heard good things about Under the Needle and decided to check it out for myself and all I can say is WOW it lived up to the hype. I'm an avid collector of tattoos and have had the chance to experience nearly every reputable shop in Seattle and Under the Needle truly served me with one of, if not THE, best walk in experience I've ever had. The shop was clean and very professional and I was immediately greeted and welcomed by the staff. After describing what I was looking to get tattooed I ended up going with Cory. I've been tattooed by dozens of artists in my life and without a doubt Cory set himself apart from nearly everyone. He took the time to really listen to my ideas and drew something even better then I imagined. I think a mark of a great tattooer is someone who makes you feel like they genuinely care about what there putting on your body and Cory never made me question that. Today as I was parking my car I saw Noah from this tattoo shop treating other humans as though they were alive only for his own amusement. If he is any representation of this establishment I would never give them my business! Noah and another coworker (name unknown) set-up a photo of Noah jumping over a homeless individual who was clearly sleeping. They did this twice despite my interference and questioning of their activity, in order to get a "good shot". After they used this person for their own amusement, they woke them and told them they were required to move along because the shop does not want people like that sleeping on "their sidewalk." This shop happens to be located next to numerous homeless services agencies! They are homeless - where are they going to sleep? This was a disgusting display in my opinion and I hope that anyone reading this review can find another shop with talented artists that have more knowledge of social injustices that many in our community face and how to treat people. read more

This is probably the fourth time I've been to this shop and second time I've been tattooed. The first experience was great. We went in with some ideas and they actually took the time to listen and draw up some decent sized tattoos when we didn't have an appointment for consulatation. Coming back, having actually scheduled something, things went by even smoother. They were expecting us, knew what we wanted, and executed it perfectly. Justin did my tattoo and was really nice, easy going, professional, and did and awesome job on my piece. Jeanie did a piece on my friends sleave that nearly made her cry because she loved it so much. So much expierence for a young artist. Some reviewers, old artists' girlfriends, should probably take a Xanax (even though your grammar and spelling would lead me to believe youve taken five), drink a beer, and move the f**k on with their lives. So... I walked into Under the Needle Tattoo, early afternoon on a Sunday and Tim turned out to be a lucky twist of fate for me. Not only is he artistic and brilliant at script, he listened and counseled me against exactly what I was going for but told me that he was sure he could modify it so that I could have the look I was hoping for. I am a female, forty and have never had a tattoo. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect and was nervous however, I felt that I was in the right confident hands and Tim ended up giving me two beautiful tattoos. TIm was patient and kind when my blood sugar dropped and I did the near fainting thing, he and his coworkers were so nice, they helped me recover without making me feel bad and we went on to finish the work. The shop has terrific ambiance, is very clean and plays great music. I am so glad I chose Under the Needle... absolutely would recommend them to you. read more

I moved to Seattle last year and finally figured out what I wanted as my next tattoo. I started asking around, trying to find a place to go so I wouldn't have to make the drive South (to Lakewood - Olympia area), and one of my friends who has many tattoos mentioned here. It is an absolutely fantastic place to go. It is bright and clean and plays some good music too..lol. I walked in on the day I went and told them what I wanted. They were able to get me in a very short amount of time (although I do recommend making an appointment for a larger tattoo). Josh drew up a great image, and the work he did, is AMAZING! The colors are very bright and the work was incredibly smooth. I have had so many compliments. GO SEE REX!!!!!!!! My wife and I were referred to this place by a good friend, we had our first consult with josh the owner& he was nothing but amazing. So nice, super legit advice and I especially appreciate that he was willing to disagree with us for the Better& quality of our tattoo! And helped us pick the best possible choice! REX! This guy tattooed us! FREAKING THE BEST GUY/ GENIUS artist there is! This tattoo parlor was absolutely P H E N O M E N A L. My tattoo artist was Brian Bower and he was polite, SO friendly, and drew up my design in a heartbeat. He is very honest, he easily could have upcharged my sister and I and he didn't. My sister and I both got matching black cat tattoos, and they are IDENTICAL. He also touched up the yin yang on my wrist since it was initially a poke n' stick, and that also turned out beautifully. His shading skills are on point and perf. Today i got my first tattoo. If it were possible to give a business ten stars, i would give Under The Needle twelve. Adam worked on me, this artist is AMAZING!! His work far, far, exceeded my hopes. Really nice staff, even the other clients were friendly to this first-timer. I had waited sixteen years to find the right tattoo, having done so, I honestly can say, i found an artist that made the wait so very worth it! I moved to Seattle in 2010 to go to college and start fresh. I had a few ideas for new tattoos and was interested in finding a shop in Seattle to call mine. As I walked around the downtown area looking at portfolios and going into shops to get a vibe I found myself most impressed with Under The Needle. I had an idea for matching tattoos on my feet in the stylings of Sailor Jerry flash art and I booked a session with Matt Lentz. Needless to say they turned out fantastic and I couldn't be happier with him and the shop. They're professional, respectful and overall a great group of people with a fair price for such an incredible product. I wanted to get a tattoo from a female artist so scheduled an appointment with Jill a week earlier, but I don't know what went wrong!!! my appointment got moved/probably cancelled without my consent and i wasn't even informed about that until the minute i showed up**Such a poor management** I wanna give a 1 star for that but I am giving 5 'coz of my artist Alex. He just walked in, and got my sketch ready with in 20mins.. He was so quick and such a wonderful artist!!! I didn't want to make any changes to his sketch, thats exactly what i was looking for!!! Just wanted to give props and a big thank you to Brian--I walked in about 10 months ago with an idea for a finger tattoo and Brian handled everything amazingly, and treated me with respect; the staff was friendly and courteous, and best of all--10 months of restaurant work (LOTS of hand washing/chemical sanitizer) later, I still get asked if my tattoo is new! Very impressed and highly recommend this place for walk in/Pinterest-y/flash work--only because i can't personally speak to their more creative pieces. Price was reasonable--shop minimum; the shop was clean; and Brian took care to make sure everything was aligned perfectly, despite being a later evening walk in. Seattle has a lot of good tattoo shops and artist...however under the needle is by far the BEST shop there is. Not only is every artist extremely talented, but the shop is extremely clean, all the artists are very kind and go out of their to treat all clients with respect when it comes to tattoo ideas. They also go out of there way to be as creative and as thoughtful as they can about whatever tattoo design you have in mind. I have spent many hours there on my sleeve and I love that place more and more everytime. I see Matt Lentz and I highly recommended him....although everybody there is phenomenal! I have been wanting this tattoo and thinking of the idea for about 6 years. Ludvic was great through the entire process, and being my first tattoo I was very curious about everything. He was very helpful with getting the positioning perfect, making sure that it was aligned in the middle of my upper arm. His needlework was very precise and efficient, and only took about two hours from start to finish. The final product is a masterpiece! I went to three different artists for a consult before I got this and they all gave me a much higher estimate than what I ended up paying as well, I would definitely recommend getting your art from ludvic! read more

Tim did an AMAZING job for me on Sunday, May 1. I walked in and asked for a really vibrant peony for my left forearm. He drew it out in his own style in less than 20 minutes. It blew me away, so we went ahead. He did the outline in an hour and finished the super vibrant petals in the next two and a half, while being careful not to spend too much time on areas that were close to the bone. I am super happy because he was also covering a scar that was relatively fresh. He took special care not to work the ink overly deep and the finished product is just lovely. I went here to get a tattoo after reading the great reviews on Yelp, and I was VERY pleased with the work I had done. For years, I have wanted to get a seal in the Haida style. I brought an image to them, and Aron Fredrickson (the artist), worked with it to make an even more beautiful tattoo for me. He was very knowledgeable and friendly, and really took the time to make suggestions and make sure I would be happy (which I was!). The shop staff were friendly, and it was very clean. Brian Bower is seriously the shit! My friend & I went to Seattle this past June and of course had to get tattoos. I got a Monarch & my friend got an Octopus. Anyways, it's been about 2 months since I left and I've been CONSTANTLY getting stopped by people from all over about my tattoo. I work at a super popular breakfast place here in Virginia Beach so we have tourists from all over and today this lady actually took a picture and asked me where in Seattle I got it done because she loved it. Hands down this place is getting 5 stars. The staff was really friendly and able to aid me in my first ever tattoo. Wasn't sure what tattoo I wanted or who was going to do it so I watched and waited and 1 particular artist caught my attention "Jeannie Pingel" She did amazing on a client prior to mine and how she did it was something that I wanted as my first tattoo. She did amazing with giving me a drawing from scratch of ideas we put together and i couldn't be more happy. I recommend this place to new comers and old comers. The shop had a relaxed vibe that I immediately felt comfortable in, and was super clean. I used a numbing cream on my arm beforehand, and the tattooing didn't even hurt ... it felt more like a tingling sensation. Mike's artwork is excellent and our interesting conversation never lagged during the 2 hours I was in the shop. He also put on a movie for me to watch while getting the tattoo, in case I needed a distraction. Today the tattoo appears to be healing well and I have no discomfort whatsoever. In fact, this was such a terrific experience that I can see myself returning for more ink in future!

The day before my appointment I receive a text explaining "manager rules" in these rules it explains I have to pay the rest of the balance 2 hrs prior to the appointment. I've never heard of this practice I have several tattoos. I've never paid ahead. I explained I'm driving from Portland and will be on the freeway 2 hrs ahead and that I'm not comfortable with doing that. The person goes on to tell me that I can just pay now then in so many words, then kept texting me trying to pressure me to pay. Which gave me the ick. I was at work but I took a little time to look into the shop further with some co-workers. When I got home, I texted the shop. explaining I'm not comfortable in doing what they're requesting. Also that I think this is a scam. I don't have an IG but my co-worker did finding the shop on there and a website. The website contradicts what this person was telling me, including the deposit amount and the pricing. I explained this and that the website directs you to a different tik tok than the one I was on, the person said that's their back up account. I let them know after all of this I'm not comfortable driving 6 hrs for nothing, because I don't believe they're anything but a scam. I requested my deposit back. They refused even using GOD and Karma as a reason to not refund my money and their website that they never directed me to that says their deposit policy which I reiterated that the website contradicted a lot of what they told me so that policy is also invalid. I explained then to either return my money or I'm pressing charges and filing complaints with the state board and BBB. The person taunted me saying "ok, waiting for the police" "You will regret doing this maam haha ""Waiting for your report to get to me" & "Good". Don't waste your money or time. my Co-worker sent a message to the IG for this shop as well, never heard back.
