Sergio went through the options, described the tools we'd need to do the job, and offered the level of caring yet professional service that is so rare. The trip there was such an uplifting experience that my husband and I were motivated to tackle the floor when we got home. It looks amazing. Supporting local business during the Pandemic is more important than ever. Uncle Sam's is a full service commercial and residential Janitorial Equipment and Supply Store. I found this little shop during the height of the lockdown, but I really needed to get my vacuum cleaner repaired. They were open with very strict distancing procedures, so I dropped off my unit and it was fixed the next day! Nicely cleaned up, operationally sound and a very fair price. I have a very furry cat so my vacuum needs attention a couple times a year, so I went back the other day. Sergio is a kind and considerate man. The quality of service at this business is at a level one rarely encounters anymore. I took in a high end vacuum cleaner that needed repair, and they handled the entire transaction as well as I could have hoped, from beginning to end: 1) They greeted me as soon as I walked in 2) They clearly described the service they'd provide, including pricing and estimated time to completion, to manage expectations 3) They finished the service even earlier than I'd expected! 4) Not only is the machine working like new again, but they even cleaned it for me, so it looks like it was just taken 'out of the box'. If I could quibble, I'd say that the 5pm closing time makes it difficult for people with traditional working schedules to pick up completed jobs after work, but I merely went on the next Saturday and picked up. uncle sam's is one of very few ordinary businesses left on this swath of washington, which boasts an increasing number of galleries, shops & other artsy design places. i had been searching for a carpet rake, what i call a fur rake, for about five years now. i spied one leaning against the van of the janitor of my apt bldg & commenced the third degree as to its origin. he directed me to uncle sams' which did indeed have the rakey grail. yea! my akita-shepherd rescue dog is nothing if not a tumbleweed generator. truly stoked to have found the above. they also carry an alternative to nature's miracle, which i will be trying in the near future. read more

I had a central vacuum powerhead that would work fine on hardwood but on carpets you had to hold the hose almost parallel to the floor to run the motor. Called the manufacturer and they suggested changing the roller or belt. Didn't think that that was the problem. Took the powerhead and hose to Uncle Sam's. Sergio looked at it and said, I'm sorry we don't service central vacuums and suggested another place to take it. Then he said leave it here and I'll take a look at it. He called me the next day and said that he had found the problem, it was electrical, and that I could come pick it up. He was so nice and helpful, saved me $185 for a new powerhead and at a price that couldn't be beat. Thanks Sergio! read more

I've been giving my business to Uncle Sam's for a couple of decades now and have been super satisfied with service and equipment unfortunately today my business ends with Sam's. Don Nelson is the owner I was told by Sergio who calls himself the manager. 4 consecutive times in the past 2 months I have rented broken carpet cleaners. The last 3 times the cleaning handle had no suction and this past Monday I rented one that leaked all around the bottom. I have properties so I need them often. I called to see what was available this morning because that's what I have to do now because all the blue ones are old and broken and Sergio gets on the phone and tells me they only have the leaking one I rented Monday and claims there was nothing wrong with it but my brand new carpet was soaked. Sergio did give me a full refund on Monday but it appears to be regular practice over there to continuously rent equipment that they know is broken. I've decided to purchase the exact carpet cleaner but I won't even give them the business on that because my money and time have been so disrespected by them I'll never spend another dollar in the store I depended on so long and referred so many people to. The glowing five star reviews are well-deserved. This business is a reminder of what excellent customer service used to be and can be -- even today! I took my great aunt's old /vintage 1960's Electrolux canister vacuum cleaner to Uncle Sam's hoping that it might be brought back from death. My great aunt left it to me when she moved to assisted living and has since passed away. As such, I have an emotional attachment to the vacuum that one doesn't usually have to such machines. I wanted to save it and had been told by one Westside repair shop that I should give it up and buy a new one! I left the machine in Sergio's hands hoping that he could bring it back to life -- while knowing that parts for the machine would be a challenge and that when it died it made a rather horrible sound. Sergio went above and beyond the challenge to diagnose the machine and to locate the necessary part (not available on the commercial market) and made it work even stronger than it had worked before repair... and at a very reasonable cost. Sergio and his staff are true gentlemen and I cannot imagine going anywhere but Uncle Sam's in the future for the services that they offer. read more
