We've bought…read morechocolates for ourselves, holidays, and gifts, and visiting Krause's has always been a tradition whenever I returned to New York after living in Florida. In fact, it was the very first stop my husband and I made because I couldn't wait to enjoy my favorite chocolates again. Unfortunately, this visit was incredibly disappointing. The first thing I noticed was the new logo and packaging. While I know businesses evolve, the new design loses the classic, elegant feel that made Krause's so special and instead looks much more generic. More importantly, the chocolates themselves are not the same. Many of the pieces are noticeably smaller than they used to be, and the chocolate tastes different. Several pieces even had bloom, which affected both their appearance and texture. I purchased a variety of chocolates, including individual pieces from the display case, chocolate bars, and peppermint patties, and every product seemed to reflect a decline in quality. To make matters worse, many of my longtime favorite pieces were no longer available. I've happily recommended Krause's for years because it consistently offered some of the best homemade chocolates in the Capital Region. This time, however, I left feeling disappointed and honestly saddened. I truly hope the owners will consider returning to the quality, recipes, and traditions that built Krause's outstanding reputation, because many longtime customers remember how exceptional their chocolates used to be.

It melts in your mouth, packed with peanut butter goodness and is a Christmas treat you'll savor. All of their chocolates are homemade and you can taste the extraordinary quality in every piece. I also like their large selection of old fashioned candies from childhood. Candy Kraft is a warm and welcoming candy shop. Their candy is arranged beautifully with a great layout. This time I had a plan: a short list of specific needs from the Asian Market on Central which I hoped I could find here instead. But daikon was too expensive, a tub of peeled garlic was not in sight and I did not have the patience to search for wheat starch or Pantai brand fish sauce. All that said, it's still a four star experience. First for the experience of seeing many Muslim families shopping together on a Friday, and particularly the happy customers waiting at the busy halal butcher when their orders are delivered. Second for the depth of product which challenges the casual shopper but lets me know this would be a good source for a very specific product, like an obscure fruit or vegetable or one of the dozens of middle eastern flatbreads on offer. The labneh section alone deserves an award for brand diversity. Like it or not, I know I'll be back and am glad we have Farmer's Indian Market in our community.

The toast was good the jam was good the hash browns were good. I don't enjoy them for breakfast. I did have the best fish sandwich I've ever had in my life there a long time ago it was a special. Was that fish sandwich and had a yummy sauce. It's a fun experience to go there by do not like the breakfast. I couldn't get anybody to eat this bacon except the dog and she can't eat bacon.

Pretty simply the best chocolate in the area hands down. Not too small and not too big, with plenty of parking in the secret lot directly behind the place. I recently was pointed to it by another customer when I was parked in that pull-off parking in the front. There are about 30 parking spaces behind but the entrance is a few hundred feet to the west (I think it is the west- in the direction of Home Depot) Anyway, the selection kicks it, the place is spotless, and there is something about the butter crunch toffee that makes you want to sell your worldly possessions to the Devil to fill the trunk of your car so you can get enough to binge on for the weekend. And it goes really good with dark beer too! I am NOT kidding! I don't have any criticism of this place other than it is in the city of Sin- Schenectady! I wish all candy shops had such chocolatey chocolate! read more

Stopped by again. What a great candy store. They have everything you could ask for. I love the almond clusters and all of the molded items. I bought great gifts for friends. The employees were a great help in assisting me with choosing items. They encouraged me to sample some of their buttercrunch which is still the best. If you are in Schenectady you must go see them. read more

While I was in Mechanicville very recently, I decided to check out Park Avenue Confectionary to pick up a box of gourmet truffles for MOI- I heart truffles! I deserve a nice treat every now and then. This little chocolate and confectionary shop stocks homemade chocolates and candies including chocolate bars (white, milk chocolate, dark, etc), lollipops, special themes (molded chocolates), bagged chocolate covered candies, chocolate covered pretzels, dgift boxes, and baskets. They also carry sugar free varieties too. The prices here are very fair: $9.95/lb for chocolates and $14.95/lb for truffles. I've been to other chocolate shops near my home,, some of which charge almost double. The owner was very accomodating in helping me to customize and choose an assortment of truffles (24 pieces/12 oz box). There were around 20 choices of truffles to choose from, and I was pointing out what I wanted from outside the glass case. This was like choosing what kinds of donuts I wanted for an assortment (give me one glazed, two jelly, three cruellers, etc), you get the idea. The total came out to just under $14 with tax. I brought the box of truffles into work for ME to indulge on while I was crunching numbers and calculations at my desk (my coworkers are on their New Year's diet, hehe). Each of the truffles tasted very fresh and had a nice hard shell outside with creamy and rich ganache inside. The hazelnut was my favorite. The truffles went well with my daily cup of Starbucks Coffee. It took me the whole week to finish the box, munching on a few pieces each day. What a sweet week!
