I eat here all of the time and my food is always good, very consistent! Staff is friendly and wait times aren't too long unless it's a Friday or Saturday night which is to be expected. I ordered carry out yesterday and there was a piece of steel wool in my chicken that I slightly choked on. I did call and inform them and they offered to make me a new order but I opted for a store credit. I was told they use those type of cleaning pads to clean the woks so they knew what I was referring to when when I was explaining what was in my food. read more

Well, kept hearing about Uncle Poon's and finally had to stop in and try it after seeing a social media post and everyone chiming in that they all knew what was pictured was Uncle Poon's fried rice. A local legend of a place, I had to stop in. I must say after trying it that it's likely everyone knows this place just because it is local. I've had better Chinese food, but they're not bad, just nothing to drive out of the way for. In you're in the 'hood then stop in, you certainly won't be disappointed. They're about average. You know it's gonna be decent when you walk in and see the faded menu. House fried rice was great, minus the shrimps, definitely didn't care for that part but I have high standards when it comes to seafood (as should you). The sesame chicken wasn't bad at all and I enjoyed the eggroll a little, still average. Yeah. Nothing bad, but nothing really good. Setting and atmosphere everything you'd expect from a local neighborhood take out American Chinese place. The problem today is that it's just not worth it unless you want to eat at home. You'd spend less on a Chinese buffet and get more variety and usually sushi and teppanyaki out of it too. A solid 3/5 stars though. read more

Ordered from here while in town with fiancé visiting friends. I must say, the food is pretty tasty. I ordered the beef and broccoli combo which, though it had carrots mixed in, was pretty good. I forget what everyone else had, but the overall consensus was that it was good food. Also ordered Peking ravioli and these friend cheese wontons, which are like crab Rangoon but without the crab I guess. Regardless, they were delicious. This place used to be really, really good..... I mean the customer svc was ALWAYS horrible, but I just chocked that up to them being in Spartanburg. When I would order and ask for delivery, the guy would ALWAYS remind me to Tip !!!!! Like WT?..... I always Tip, except when u ASK for one... Like I said THE FOOD USED TO BE GOOD! I have only had takeout from here, so I can't speak for delivery. Their fried rice is excellent. They use just the right amount of soy sauce, and it has bean sprouts and onion. You won't find any of the chopped carrots and peas that a lot of places around here use. I ordered the Shrimp with Lobster sauce. The shrimp were large and perfectly cooked. My fiance ordered the General Tso's chicken. He claimed it was crispy and just the right amount of spicy. It had the dried peppers right alongside the chicken, which if you like more of a kick you could eat them, if not you could set them to the side. The service we received was excellent. They even put the hot mustard and sauce packets in the bag for us. I definitely recommend them and will return the next time I'm in the mood for Chinese food. And they cater, so I would definitely use them in that capacity if needed. PS, they have a sign on the door that says they don't accept credit cards, and the menu says 'Check or Cash Only' read more

I have been eating Uncle Poon's food for 25 years now, and it is the best Chinese food in South Carolina. It is authentic Chinese Food, comparable to the food in New York City, where I grew up. Really like the food here, customer service has never been a problem, delivery drivers are great, there is delivery fee and they only accept cash or check. 3 years ago we started the tradition ordering Chinese on Christmas, called on Dec. 25 2017 at 7:00, they said they were closed because they ran out of food. The young man that answered the phone when I placed my order was rude and the 2nd time I called to see where our food was he said I told u it would be 45-- to a hour and hung up on me..well yes I got pissed off..but I still gave the driver a tip because he wasnt at fault, but I did tell the driver that the guy on the phone was rude and hung up on me. That makes me not want to eat there ever again..the driver remembered me from years ago.. so NO I WONT EAT THERE AGAIN.. Our first take out order from Uncle Poon's. Oh my, I cannot say enough great things about the service and the food!! My husband ordered the Sesame Chicken and I ordered the Chicken Chop Suey. Both exceeded our expectations! Everything was fresh, hot, generous in portion size and cooked to perfection. We also ordered the fried cheese wontons. It came with a generous amount of delicious plum sauce for dipping and it was just as great as the entree's. The staff was very nice and helpful in answering our questions when ordering over the phone and when my husband went to pick it up, he was welcomed as if we were long time customers. We grab takeout from here on a regular basis. We love the Vegetable Delight, and we get General Tso's tofu. They are so good about us being vegan. Their actual location is a bit run down but the food and service is great. They only take check or cash, which is a pain, but the Bi-lo next door has an ATM if you don't plan ahead. Uncle Poons food is great! It is a little pricey, but we typically don't mind paying a little extra for better quality. The reason I'm rating this restaurant 3 stars is because we were reminded four times that 'we need to tip.' I felt it was extremely rude for the driver and the gentleman who took our order to continue pressuring us to tip the driver. We are familiar with tipping your bartender, delivery driver, waitress, etc. We have worked in the food and beverage industry for years and I would never imagine telling my customers they are obligated to tip me. Outrageous... First I had to run next door for cash(no cards accepted here). Very inconvenient, since this was 4 separate work orders. Then one lunch order of shrimp and broccoli was basically all rice and three shrimp. Another had ordered the same and received at least 6 shrimp and more broccoli on hers. When she called to ask for replacement or refund, the worker told her to 'TAKE SOME FROM THE OTHER ONE!' Seriously?! She should go to her co-workers half eaten lunch and steal some shrimp? Pushed too far by this answer she immediately took the meal and receipt to Poon's (where a red headed young guy claimed to be the owner) to demand a refund, STILL she was refused. Terrible Customer Service, Mediocre food at best (bring your Zantac), and doesn't take a debit card. If you want to spend $8.00 - $9.00 for a small amount of mediocre food and intensely bad service then this is your place. Normally I can give anyplace the benefit of the doubt it I have a negative experience and attribute it to an employee's bad day and not return. They refused to take separate phone orders. This restaurant, also, takes poor customer service and incivility to a level of high concern. Four of us ordered from Uncle's Poon restaurant. I was witness to dialog from an Uncle Poon's employee that left me intensely concerned. He told her that she needed to take food out of her co-worker's food order if she thought she didn't receive enough shrimp. That statement alone was asinine and shameful. Anyone would be upset with such a statement. What I witnessed after was even more bizarre. She, understandably, felt the need for a refund. I met her there to discuss my concerns as well as stand as witness. When I arrived she was having to wait for a police officer because he stated she cursed him over the phone and refused to provide her a refund. I was in the cubicle next to her in a call support center and she is a professional who did not curse the restaurant employee. Carol and I both provided testimony to the officer and she was finally refunded her money for her lunch. In a stand for what is right I cannot let this go. I was witness to her treatment and suffered the heartburn from their mediocre food. Save your money and your time. read more
