There were three big mistakes made to our disadvantage. 1. First mistake was when we asked how many shrimps are in Honey Bacon Shrimp appetizers and we were told "six" and then we received four. We confronted our waiter and she admitted she made the mistake. We would have never take four shrimps priced at $12.50 as per menu price. 2. Second mistake was when we ordered two skirt steak fajitas MEDIUM-RARE and received both medium-well to well-done. Again we confronted our waiter and she again apologized. 3. Lastly we received the bill and see that we were actually charged $13.50 for Bacon Shrimp appetizers and not $12.50 as priced on menu. Again we confronted our waiter and she offered to take the $1.00 off but we didn't bother to wait and paid the bill as presented to us. In addition we didn't like that the tip is calculated after tax is added. Tip should reflect price of food and drinks BEFORE tax. I know this is being practiced at most if not all restaurants - but we still didn't like it. At the end we were approached by manager and he asked us how was the service, so we politely informed him of our experience. He acknowledged but only that. Nothing more. Altogether - we were not happy and will not be returning any time soon. ---Peter read more

Our daughter had a surprise birthday party for her husband here. With a party of about 15 they provided 2 servers to ensure that everything went well. Not only did they take excellent care of us but went out of their way make sure we had a great time, joining is the celebration. While the food was very good it was pricey so not sure it is someplace I would visit on a regular basis. Portions were generous and arrived at the table hot. Everyone had something different from the menu and there were no complaints from anyone. The guacamole was excellent as were the tacos that came with my meal. If you are looking for somewhere to go for a special occasion then this might be the place. While it was a little pricey the service, atmosphere and food warranted what you pay. read more

Despite all the marginal reviews, my friends and I went for dinner last night. It definitely lived up (or down) to those reviews. Our server was a very nice young lady. That's about it. The service was very slow. Our food came out in a staggered fashion. Some of us got food, then another couple were served a little bit later. Five of us were waiting for the sixth to get served before starting our meals. By the time the last meal was served the rest of the food was already cooled off. And this place is more expensive than other better restaurants in the area. Never going back. read more

Disappointed. Very disappointed. 1 star for the atmosphere. I enjoyed the ambiance 1 star for the top shelf margarita. I normally can drink 2 or 3 BUT 1 and I was DONE. Super strong LOL The food was bad really bad. I ordered guacamole for 1 cam out on a bed of shredded lettuce. It was bad! Also order 3 tacos with rice and beans. I got steak chicken and ground beef. Not made the typical Mexican way. These were American style. Yuck. This food was wayyyyyy overpriced for what u get. With tax and tip my bill was $50. Will I be back to eat, never Will I sit and the bar and have a margaritas. Definitely. Probably next week too LOL. read more

Terrible dining experience. We had to get our own menus and order water from the bar because our waitress took so long. The chips are thin, and the salsa tasted terrible (so much pepper). Once my dinner came out over an hour later, the order was completely wrong-- beef flautas instead of chicken. The only light in this otherwise dismal dining experience was free table-side guacamole when you sign up online to their rewards program. I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

Great , we went for drinks , both of us had the platinum swirl , the sangria margarita frozen , with a shot of 1800 . For an entree we had the shrimp sautéed and lettuce wrap , over thinly sliced mango , it was everything . We had complementary salsa and chips that were so delicious! read more

A pretty nice restaurant and fairly new to Southpoint, night as well try it! Although I could care less about it, I imagined the customer service would be great... but that's up to the next person to decide. Appetizers: The typical chips and salsa, although the salsa had a smoky taste to it, I enjoyed it. Queso is queso. Entrees: Cozumel Shrimp Tacos (Three homemade corn tortillas stuffed with seared shrimp, pineapple, mango-jicama slaw. Served with cilantro rice, spicy black beans and a side of mango habanero sauce): the corn tortillas was great, the shrimp tasted as if it wasn't completely cleaned before cooking, the mango habanero sauce was too sweet although the kick from the habanero was great, and slaw decent. Juanita's Platter (Beef enchilada with agave queso sauce, chicken enchilada with creamy hatch chile sauce, one crispy beef taco and one pork tamale with New Mexico red sauce): the tacos from Taco Bell is better. The beef portion of the enchilada was juicy, but didn't taste the queso sauce as much. The pork tamale with the red sauce did not taste good, it disintegrated in my mouth to the point where I couldn't really taste it. The chicken enchiladas was probably the best out of the trio. Bottom line: for an upscale restaurant, I expected more from what I received. Cosmetically, looks great. Eating it, wasn't so great. Quality for cost are not congruent with each other. read more

I personally wouldn't recommend eating here. The food does not make up for the extremely high prices and hour long wait (to receive your food once you've placed your order.)However the staff are really friendly. The queso blanco and tortilla chips are good.I ordered the street tacos with shrimp and the taco shell itself was flimsy and stale. The shrimp were really salty as well and COLD. So overall i wouldn't recommend wasting your money on the mediocre food. read more

All I gotta say is... YUM. They have so many fresh ingredient on display, and you get fresh, homemade tortillas with every meal. Chips and salsa are DELICIOUS. The check in process is a little painful. They almost make you feel as if you are underdressed and inferior. I think this was just the hostess on staff at the time. Literally every dish at the table was delicious, and the atmosphere was on point. Love this spot! read more

Uncle Julio's is a nice addition to Southpoint. I made a reservation for a weekday lunch and unfortunately all the tables in the dining area were taken when I showed up for the reservation. They were able to seat us at a hightop in the bar area which was fine, but I did make a reservation so seemed like that wasn't taken into consideration. Anyways, they have quite a few lunch combo specials which were great. I ended up going with the enchilada and crispy taco. Both were flavorful and I would get again. I also got a raspberry homemade iced tea. It was awesome! It wasn't sweet which I liked. You can get it with sweet tea of course but I liked getting it with unsweet. They had a few homemade tea/lemonade options which is always nice to see. Service was fast and friendly! read more

This review is associated with my experience eating a late lunch on Saturday November 11, 23. I arrived with my party (we needed a table for 5). Took the server sometime to get to us after we were seated, again that happens. He was a nice young man who appears to be handling multiple tables. We ordered out meals. I ordered the Combination Enchilada (beef and chicken). Others in my party ordered tacos. The menu seemed to offer far less choices than the on-line version but I figured they recently changed up their options. We waited about 35 minutes for our food. That was somewhat puzzling given the restaurant was not that busy (not to imply they did not have customers, but they were not fully booked either). About 15 minutes into waiting for our meal, a table for 2 was sat right next to us and they couple said they needed to put an order in right away. They both ordered combination enchilada plates from our server. When our meal arrived I was struck by the following: everyone's rice and beans were cold (rice was ice cold. Beans were lukewarm). My enchilada's were cold, flavorless, and the beef tasted awful. No flavor and even tasted burned. At about the same time our food arrived our neighbors food arrived. The restaurant t prides itself as 'making things from scratch' with the finest ingredients. Abysmal failure in this endeavor on Saturday. My party was so hungry at this point, they ate their meals regardless of the temperature of their food (main course, no one ate rice or beans if they had them). I sent my food back and chose not to eat. Then I had the wonderful opportunity to deal with the Manager on duty. A truly condescending and arrogant individual who tried to lecture me about the different cooking times of food and how that might result in varying serving temperatures, especially when I pointed out our neighbors were seated well after us and served their food in half the time. I find it interesting the Manager blames his patrons for their lack of understanding on how the world works for their poor restaurant experience rather than the following: the kitchen staff obviously did not communicate very well on what was included in our order with respect to which dishes would take longer to prepare making sure they were started first instead of the other items that would then sit and wait, getting cold, for the staff to complete the reaming order, no one bothered to check on the temperature of the rice and beans, and no one spot checks pre-made chicken and beef to make sure it is seasoned properly before placing in a dish (guess they pray its all ok). I have had more favorable Mexican food from Taco Bell (and I hate Taco Bell). I have also never had a Manager of an establishment try to put the blame on a poor customer experience on said customer while also at the same time trying to say 'I will go get you new food' but at the same time implying 'its your fault for not understanding how the process works'. I understand perfectly ... you and your staff are lazy and don't know how to run a kitchen properly. I understand perfectly sir. Some may find this review unfair, and you are entitled to that opinion but the food was obviously not made from scratch, extremely poor quality, and the Manger is a condescending jerk who needs to re-evaluate his career choice. My advice if you are looking for a good mexican dining experience: find a 'mom and pop' mexican restaurant in Durham and go there. Do not waste your money at this chain restaurant where the food is below average and the senior staff can't be bothered to care or understand what the real issue(s) are. Avoid Uncle Julio's at all costs. read more

Love love love their margaritas!!! So fresh!!! My faves are the Strawberry, Grapefruit, and they had Watermelon as the margarita of the day and it was yummy! Would definitely recommend. The food is ok, I still prefer the down and dirty no frills local Mexican restaurants. The place is very cute! Good place for a date or a group dinner. The Chocolate Piñata was cute, my friend's son enjoyed breaking it, but it was underwhelming with the fruit and churros....maybe more sauce and whip?? But it was fun none the less. This place is waaaaaay overpriced for Mexican food and a lunch option on a Sunday. I opted not to order an alcoholic beverage because of this. For my meal I ordered the combination enchiladas: one beef and one cheese & onion. This entree was served with rice and beans. The only thing decent about my meal was the beef enchilada. The cheese & onion enchilada, rice and beans were all terrible. I also did not enjoy the mounds of melted cheddar cheese suffocating my enchiladas. This is our go-to restaurant whenever we are craving Tex-Mex or authentic and fresh food. We have tried almost everything on the menu, and we are never disappointed. Our favorites are the Guadalajara, Jalisco, Juanita's platter, bacon wrapped shrimp, queso chicken, fajita steak, mango habanero shrimp taco, and their signature mexican butter! The table side guacamole is also the best we have ever tried and absolutely worth it. Every time we visit, we are taking at least half the food to-go because they are always so generous in their portions. The service is always impeccable and we have so much fun getting to know all the servers. We always make sure to get a reservation so that we are seated promptly whenever we arrive, because there is always usually a long waiting list. This is definitely one of our absolute favorite restaurants in Durham and we're always excited to be back! read more

Con: service was extremely slow... I think they were changing shifts or something and it took forever to get a server and a manager ended up taking care of us. Pros: the manager noticed the long wait and gave us a free appetizer. I had the Grand swirl drink and it was delicious!! We shared the fajitas for two which was plenty for food for two people. They season the food with something called Mexican butter which is amazing. The great customer service by the manager definitely saved this review! read more

I haven't had the pleasure of dining in the restaurant yet, I have only had delivery. I ordered the Classic Taco Salad, a Soft Taco Plate, and 2 Margaritas. I LOVED how everything was packed so nicely. I was a little disappointed at the quantity of ingredients for the price of the salad; $17.11. I would have expected much more than what I received, even though everything was really tasty, it wasn't enough for THAT price. Maybe you receive more when it is made in the restaurant. The soft tacos were amazing too! The margaritas were OUTSTANDING?!! Last night, Friday, we decided to go out for a nice evening with my wife and baby, after a long week of moving and a long day. After exploring the mall (we're new to the neighborhood), we decided to grab something to eat, and the restaurant Uncle Julio's was the one we chose. It looked really nice, but from the moment we stepped in, the experience wasn't great. First, they made us wait a while because they had to check if there was a table since we didn't have a reservation. We had asked earlier if they were about to close, and they said we were good still had 10 minutes until 9 pm, and Google Maps said they closed at 11 pm, so we thought it would be fine. After a while, they let us in, and to our surprise, the restaurant was almost empty; there were plenty of free tables, so we didn't understand why they had to check so much before seating us. We sat at the table, were given the menus, and everything seemed fine. Meanwhile, I went to the bathroom to change my son and played with him in the mirror as we usually do. When we returned to the table, I asked my wife if they had brought at least water and chips, as is customary, and she said they hadn't. I sat down, looked at the menu, and we decided what to order, but time went by, and nobody attended to us. A waitress passed by us several times to check on nearby tables but completely ignored us. After even more time had passed, I told my wife, with some frustration and sadness about ending the night like this, that if nobody attended us in the next round, we would have to leave, to which she agreed. I didn't check the time, but about 15-20 minutes had passed since we sat down, and nobody had even offered us water. We got up and left, feeling very upset. As we were about to leave, the host saw us and simply said 'bye,' and I turned back and told her, 'In case you didn't realize, we're leaving because no one ever came to serve us, thanks... terrible service, first and last time I come here. It's a shame the staff aren't up to the standard of the place and the area. read more

I heard that Uncle Julio's was a the "Best Mexican Restaurant in Town". I won't completely disagree however, I had high expectations. I wasn't completely disappointed but I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be. So... let's start with the menu... it wasn't as extensive as I'd like to see from a Mexican Restaurant but it wasn't bad. I ordered the chicken fajitas and I will say everything was very fresh and MTO. The veggies are chopped when your order is placed, so that's pretty nice. There weren't very many pieces of the fajita vegetables which was surprising. It was mostly chicken, yellow rice, and beans. Minimal cheese, and sour cream, and no salsa other than a tablespoon or two of pico. I'm rating the following on a scale of 1-5 Parking- 4 (I went on a Tuesday so it wasn't bad) Location- 5 (you can eat first and shop later) Service- 3 (hostess forgot a booster for my neice, waitress was just okay) Food- 4 (for what I paid for fajitas I expected more) Price- 3 (there are some very expensive items. Also, my sister ordered a side of pico for her quesadilla and it was $2... seriously?) Overall... I won't say it was bad and I won't say that I won't go back. I'll definfely try them out again and hope for better. read more

This is my little secret lunch spot. Always good and service here is quick and professional.

We came here on a Saturday night and the place was very understaffed. It took about 20 minutes to be seen by a waiter after we were sat. Uncle Julio's is just ok. It wasn't bad, but not the best Mexican I've had. I was thinking with how they advertise the freshness of it, I'd be more blown away by the flavor. With that being said, it's not a bad place to grab a work lunch or to go to after shopping in the Streets of Southpoint. I did appreciate the lunch combos they offer because it wasn't too much food. Listen. I actually hate giving bad reviews. But my God, I hate this Tex-Mex joint with a passion. My poor server, didn't know what a Michelob Ultra - she's new alcohol, fair enough. However, the food was atrocious. The Queso-birria was stale with hardly any meat or cheese and was way too over priced for what I was getting. I'm disappointed to have came to this establishment. I will never be returning and kinda hoping someone can turn this place around. The only good thing was the alcoholic drinks. read more

The food is mediocre at best. The chips look like left over crumbs at the bottom of a bag of store-bought chips and stale. The large house guacamole is the size of a small bowl with a side of Pico de Gallo for whatever reason. The cheese enchiladas had absolutely no red carne sauce as described on the menu. It was a major disaster of a meal. We will not return. read more

I was in the area and wanted Mexican food. This place looked different than the others, which all seem to serve the same food. Upon walking in, I knew this was a great decision! The decor was not as expected and didn't quite feel like a Mexican restaurant, but was very open, inviting, and overall pleasant. The server greeted me immediately and explained the menu and the open kitchen area, explaining how items are made from fresh produce throughout the day. The chips and salsa were, by far, some of the best I've had from a restaurant. I prefer chicken over beef, so the Coronado Pollo Platter was calling my name so I could get a bit of everything. The red sauce was kind of spicy, but not so much that I couldn't tolerate it. What a refreshing change of pace to have flavorful food that I don't need to add hot sauce to. The rice was also flavorful and the refried beans were also very delicious. Although the prices are a bit higher than other places, I found it to be a great value because I left satisfied and had leftover food. read more

We gave it another chance and it actually lost a star. The guacamole was so salty it was barely eatable - and this girl loves salt! The margaritas were okay, but you could taste the mix, which for nearly $12 there should be NO mix used. Neither of us felt great after our dinner, and we've decided we won't be back. It's just too expensive and not worth the$80 price tag. read more

A girlfriend of mine and I went to dinner here for the first time. Food and drinks were amazing!! First things first .. it is a very nice restaurant with a great location!! Clean place and you can tell they make everything from scratch, I honestly think it's over priced ...also the reason for my one star it's the poor quality and portion of food you get for the price, it lacks the authenticity of Mexican flavor, my food was bland. I ordered the Patron Classic which it costs around $12 very small glass and lots of ice as you'd see in the picture, I told my server that it tasted like lemonade(very strong taste) and he offered to bring me a different one I asked for a beer instead ... like 10 minutes later I guess the bartender came with a new drink asking me to taste it, ... I didn't really wanted another one I just kept it since I didn't want to argue; it taste just the same, at the end I still paid for it (I never got my beer). My fish tacos were sooo cold(like the weather that evening) along with the rice and beans that came with it, it was more pico de Gallo inside than the fish..$15.99 dish. I just ate them I didn't want to cause any stress moments during my brother & sister in law's 15th anniversary dinner which it was a group of 11 people, it took like 35 minutes to get our food and I over heard other people at my table saying they didn't like their food either, they had left overs which they didn't take with them; my wife's carne asada was tasty so were the chips and the salsa was okay, which is unique compare to what other Mexican restaurants serve. I am Mexican and I love Mexican food but I was disappointed with this place after a couple of months of excitement to come here; my final bill with tip included was $76.10 for my wife and me, we ordered 2 entrées and 2 drinks only. It might be the best looking restaurant around but NOT the best Mexican food around, there are plenty of good Mexican restaurants in Cary and Raleigh... the trip was definitely not worth it. It was the first time than a server didn't ask how was the food . I honestly want this place to do better but at the same time my food was cold and bland! I doubt I'll be back!! read more

We are all entitled to our own opinions, right? Well here's mine: Parking: 3 Location: 5 Decor/ambiance: 5+ Customer Service: 5+ TexMex is one of my favorite food types. I was so excited when I heard the news of Uncle Julio's opening up in Durham. I'd never had the chance to try them until now and I was super stoked to do so. Before jumping on the food allow me to reference 'a' waitress who stopped by our table to assist us. Her name was Destiny. Destiny was great! As she was walking pass our table she stopped to see if we had any questions as we were all deep into this shallow menu trying to figure out what we wanted. Destiny begin to answer all of our questions. She even took the time to go into the history of Uncle Julio's and what makes their product so awesome. She told us that everything produced is made from scratch and you are bound to taste the difference when you try the food. Destiny gave us all of this amazing attention and wasn't even our waitress! Way to go Destiny on welcoming two newbies to UJ's. The ambiance was GREAT! They had music playing in the background and when I tell you every song was popping... The location is sweet!!! They are in the old Champs but you would never tell!!! Great job UJ's. As stated above the food is made from scratch in the kitchen daily. They prepare the guac for you table side. As a vegetarian, i found there not to be many options. The menu isn't super large to begin with where I counted no more than 2-3 vegetarian dishes. You can make any dish vegetarian BUT you'd still be paying for the meat even though you removed it. We ordered the Veggie Fajitas! The presentation was great! They food smelled good and tasted 'ok'. I will admit that I was expecting more from a taste perspective... UJ's just didn't quite deliver that WOW factor when it came to the food. The peppers and onions were sliced so thick you could choke on them if you weren't careful. I figured that maybe the veggies should have been chopped a little smaller. The salsa was ok but the Queso was freaking awesome! The decor and service was by far 5 stars. I will rest at 3 stars for now overall due to my personal experience with the food (A-Ok). I do hope to return to try something else soon. read more

Then I bit into a dry chicken quesadilla (just chicken and cheese). I called the restaurant and spoke to Anna who claimed she was the manager. You would think during this time with Covid and not many people eating out the service and food would be excellent...Not here. The chicken inside the enchiladas had absolutely no spice or sauce ...just big chunks of dry chicken. beans were I would bet were Campbells. The rice was not bad. After giving our checks he ever cleared the table just went back to the bar. When leaving a woman I assume was the manager asked how everything was and when I told her about the poor service and terrible food..SHE LAUGHED!!!! Can I just say WOW! Uncle Julio's is conveniently located at the Streets of Southpoint mall in the space previously occupied by Champps. They remodeled/redesigned the entire place, and it looks GREAT! There is a large bar area with a bunch of tables and a ton of seating in the main restaurant. I was invited to the Soft Opening and could not have been more excited. A friend and neighbor of mine is addicted to Uncle Julio's (which is a chain of from scratch Mexican restaurants). Dinner started off with a margarita, because it's a must in Uncle Julio's. They have a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks including margaritas, sangria, mojitos, wine and beer. We opted to share the guacamole at our table, and it was HUGE! I liked it, but didn't love it. There was so much guacamole leftover, it got to take a ton home as leftovers. My UJ addict/friend suggested trying the tortillas with the salsa and guac rather than the chips, and I was hooked. We also ordered the queso dip and had the warm tortillas with that; it was good, but I actually REALLY preferrred their salsa as it's a little smoky and just makes me smile. For dinner, I ordered the Coronado Pollo Platter which includes 2 chicken enchiladas, a crispy chicken taco and a chicken tamale. This was enough food for 3 meals (and I have a good appetite). I didn't get to try it on my first visit, but Uncle Julio's offers a chocolate piñata dessert that looks amazing. I definitely need to get back there with friends and try it. I can honestly see myself enjoying a margarita and lots of chips/tortillas and salsa in the near future. YUM! read more
