I am so disappointed with Uncle Ho, I had high hopes for a Vietnamese beer bar serving excellent food. Aside from the insensitive name and the conical hats for patrons to wear, the food was not good. When we were seated the waiter told us the food was meant to be shared and to head up to the bar to order. So we ordered a couple of beers, the grilled chicken vermicelli salad, the grilled corn and the com tam. The bar staff told us drinks would be delivered to the table. So we sat down and waited. Eventually we asked someone and they came through with the beers, just as the food arrived. We reminded them that we had also ordered water. The chicken salad was bland, and came with three overcooked tiny chicken skewers. One was so dry we couldn't eat it or get it off the skewer. The corn was cold in the middle (which hinted at it being cooked earlier and then put on the grill before service). And finally the com tan was a cutlet on the bone, which made sharing impossible. The rice was gluggy and overcooked and the sauce was way too sweet. The water and another round of beers came after we ate, so can only assume that this was our original order. We accepted the water and said we'd already gotten the beers. I let our waitress know that the corn was cold and the chicken overcooked, she apologised and we didn't hear anything else about it.
One star for the house beer, which was actually not bad. read more
