All the usual barbers in Providence were booked, so I logged onto Yelp to see if there were any decent places nearby. And that's how I came across Chop Shop. Appointments are only accepted on Tues/Weds/Thurs, which relieved me of my anxiety about being turned away as a walk-in. I arrived around 9:45 AM, and there was ample street parking. The shop itself was spacious and clean with a no frills decor. I was immediately seated by a barber, John. John is a man of few words, but is extremely attentive. He asked me what kind of cut I wanted, I answered, and he asked a few clarifying questions. Of the small talk we had, John mostly responded with a protracted, unimpressed "uh huh", but I didn't mind that. It was clear he was involved in the details of my cut. While cutting my hair, he didn't answer phones or respond to any messages, which is all too common at most barber shops, and I greatly appreciate that. In the end, John not only gave me a high-quality cut, he gave me the haircut I asked for. This haircut would easily run me $30 in Providence, but I was only charged $16. I wish I had known about Chop Shop sooner!

Would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone looking for a new barber in the area.

I am totally uncomfortable and unconfident with a dorky mobster-like haircut that lacks finesse (frankly, it looks stupid, with many uneven ends apparent months later and revealing a silly cowlick on the back of my head, which has never once been an issue for me). Simply not at all what I envisioned or needed. Sure the place's regulars love the classic cuts they receive, but I did not appreciate the barbershop treatment at a place holding itself out as a salon on a Broadway Avenue in a city like Providence. I strongly recommend the place adds a unisex-friendly specialist to their team - that would really modernize this joint, which is not a 5-star one.

My dad always uses them as his main barber shop and I can see why. They offer reasonably priced hair cuts for those looking for a more old-fashioned cut.
