I was told not to come back. I didn't holler. I didn't raise my voice. I was just upset. I removed the tip from my to go order and was told not to come back. I knew it was going to be busy because it was Valentine's Day. So I called at 330 and ordered a pick up for 530. I get there at 525 and was told it would be done in 5 minutes. I live 5 minutes from the restaurant so I understand 5 minutes. Someone else comes in after me for a 530 pick up. Ok, well I ask again if mine is ready. Nope we had a lot of orders come in it will be done soon. So I stand to the side and wait, and wait. After 15 minutes I see 2 boxes sitting in the window and ask, are those mine. No, those aren't yours. So I ask, can I have my money back? Nope they are boxing it up now. One person said we just had someone pass away. I am sorry to hear that and I knew it was going to be busy that's why I called at 330 to order it. And I wait and watch one of the girls, literally take the 2 boxes I asked were mine, put them in a bag with 2 more boxes, turn around and hand them to me. As I was heading to the door one of the girls from behind the counter said, dont come back. Ok, I won't. I used to love coming here, but service has dropped off. From being on hold to place an order so long that I was still on hold when I walked into the restaurant and ordered in the store to what happened today. When I got home I took the prime rib out of the box and it felt cool to the touch. Like I said I live 5 minutes from the restaurant and the temp of the meat was 86 degrees. That was not something that just got boxed up. Don't worry about me gracing your business any longer if this is your treatment of customers. read more

Restaurant was clean and restrooms were nice also. They don't offer a hamburger steak but my wife requested one and the cook just gave her a hamburger patty without the bun. She said it was good. I had the Uncle Gus's salad. It had all kinds of meat on it and unfortunately I became sick a few hours later. Some of the meat just didn't taste right so if we do ever go back I will not get that again. Now for the important part. The restaurant wasn't that busy, plenty of empty tables. Went after a sports game. They were getting ready to close. Service was quick and super nice. The onion rings were crunchy, but the onion wasn't super flavorful. The mozzarella sticks cheese pull was epic and they tasted really good! The prime rib sandwich was delicious! I don't do spicy and I got really scared with the first bite because my lip went numb with some spice, but I must have just hit a pocket because the rest of the sandwich was all flavor. The green beans were amazing, they are cooked in meat stock and the flavor is wonderful! And our daughter really enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich and the fries were hot and crispy with perfect seasoning. Definitely worth the visit! read more

Cozy decor with lots of antiques line the wall. Staff were friendly and attentive. I had the 1/2 rack of ribs and they were pull off the bone tender. Right seasoning and perfectly smoked. I tried couple BBQ sauces they offered and found the "hot" BBQ sauce to be have alight heat but a great flavor. For sides I opted for potato salad and Mac & Cheese. The potato salad was good with a hint of mustard which how I prefer. Mac & Cheese was decent but use a little more cheese sauce slightly dry noodles. First time going to Gus's and really enjoyed it. Got the half a rack of ribs with coleslaw and onion rings. The ribs were very good and well smoked. The coleslaw is good choice for one of your regular sides and the onion rings are considered a premium side so a little bit more but very good. The only cons I have is the regular BBQ sauce is just sauce and not a lot of flavor in it but that may just be me. The hit BBQ has a good taste and I ended up mixing some hot in the regular. Your meal comes with a roll and butter which is ok but really needed some Texas garlic toast for my likes. We were there just before lunch so not much of a crowd but when we left it was a busy place. The first bite touched my soul and took me back to simpler times. My husband ordered the country fried steak. Let me tell you, that steak could feed the both of us! ITS HUGE! The seasonings are perfect and it was hot and fresh. Paired with the mashed potatoes and gravy, perfect match! I had the Sloppy Chicken. It's a very southern take on a sloppy joe. It's shredded chicken, smothered in cheese and jalapeño ranch in between two buttered grilled buns. If you're wanting to know about apps, Fried Pickle Spears. Don't make me tell you twice, just order them. You'll thank me later. Heather was our server. Very sweet and homely. She is a teacher working here part time, Tip her well, she's earned it. I love Uncle Gus's. We have eaten here a lot over the past 5 years. Today was a disappointment. It wasn't the food. I don't know if the person at the counter was new but, I called to put in an order. She told me to hold on a minute. 30 minutes later I drove there to place my order while still waiting for her to get back to me on the phone. Then I stood there another 5 minutes while she did who knows what before she took my order. Then another 20 minutes for my food which was acceptable. This place is a decent stop if you are going to the campsite down the road. Me and my grandparents went inside and sat down with the polite waitress. We didn't know what we wanted yet so she did give us time, which was about 5-10 minutes maybe. I ordered the pulled pork with macaroni and cheese. After half the way of waiting I beleive we got free chips and salsa for the wait, since it did take about 20-30 mins to get our food. I really liked the salsa and chips, the chips were a bit stale but the salsa tasted pretty good for a barbeque place so I was surprised. When I got my food the pork did have good flavor but the bbq sauce on the side of the table helped the flavour improve. The macaroni and cheese was also pretty good. We stopped in for lunch after a drive through the back roads in the area. The food was very good: pulled pork sandwich, hamburger, potato salad, slaw, corn and green beans. The BBQ sauce was tasty (only one offered on the table). The atmosphere is a real plus with lots of antiques on the wall and ceiling. The service was very pleasant but it took a while to get the food to the table. That may be because of a shortage of staff which is all too common today. Holy crap. I had no idea this place even existed until a few weeks ago, and I definitely was missing out. I want to preface by saying that I haven't tried their prime rib, which is the specialty, but the rest was incredible. Went with my uncle to check this place out. I got the ribs and pulled pork plate, with beans and fried green beans as my sides. He got brisket and ribs, with slaw and something else that I've forgotten. The brisket was good. Lots of places outside Texas love to make pot roast and call it brisket. Stand alone, solid 3.5. Wouldn't crave it, but good. The pulled pork was rich, smoky, and had a great balance of flavor and consistency. Huge fan. The ribs were incredible. Some of the best I've had, which is saying a lot. They were a bit tough, but had a good flavor about them, combined with a great smoke ring and color to them. They had two sauces, an Eastern Carolina sauce of vinegar and pepper, which was awesome, and a traditional Eastern Tennessee sauce, which was solid. The fried green beans were quite good. The baked beans had sausage in them and were surprisingly great. I'm not a huge fan of beans, but even I was a huge fan. Slaw was pretty standard, but hey, that's not bad. What a fabulous place. My cousin Tom had us comin' here for lunch Friday, November 4. Crazy-ass joint with more stuff on the walls and hangin' from the ceilings than TGI Fridays. OLD stuff. Pigs flying, RC Cola, Coca-Cola, Diet-Rite tin ads and coolers. A Barq's outdoor thermometer. Caned chairs, wood hand-crank ice cream makers. Can't name it all. Whoo-eeee . . . what a good bunch of stuff to behold and bring back memories. We sat at one long communal table -- kinda like a picnic table. Eight of us shared two order of fried dill pickle spears. Dang, those pups were sooooo good. There was fresh dill in the batter, which seemed to be cornmeal-based. The dill truly enhanced this lovely appetizer. And the pickles retained their crisp crunch. Sandwiches are the order of the day. I got a brisket sandwich (minus bun) with cheddar cheese (The standard for this sandwich is pepper jack.) and cole slaw. Everybody else got some variation of same and enjoyed immensely. Other than the dill pickle spears, there was no sharin' goin' on here.
