It's really not an option that comes up when you Google "furniture stores"; and, well, the Yelp reviews aren't the best (... then again, a lot of the negative ones are written by people with no photo, so are they really that trustworthy?). We looked online at their couches. There were some seemingly really good options! And then we just sort of put the idea on the back burner until my partner threatened to burn our terrible, horrible, no good, very bad (and very broken) couch (... to be fair, I had also threatened to do the same thing, but he's much more calm and composed than I am, so when he said it I knew it was Go Time). We pulled the website back up, found a few couches that made the most sense size-wise for our small, strangely shaped apartment, then took a drive over to The Maine Mall. Not a single sales person talked to us; it was lovely. We found a couch we liked, and an older man by the name of Kevin sauntered over. It didn't seem like he had any expectations or agendas. We immediately liked Kevin. The Radley was our vibe (and our price range, and would fit our oddly shaped apartment), and Kevin let us reconfigure the floor model, sit on it, lounge on it, bicker about it, move it around some more, until we found a configuration we wanted. Kevin then very patiently answered our never-ending list of questions regarding their WORRYNOMORE warranty. Our couch is FANTASTIC (it's maybe not the perfect color, but we didn't feel like waiting three months for the color of our choice). It's probably one of the best pieces of furniture we've ever spent any money on: unbelievably comfortable and so well made. Also, it's cool that if we move into a bigger place we can buy additional pieces to make The Radley longer! My only piece of advice? WAIT UNTIL THERE'S A SALE. Which there often is (Christmas sale, Valentine's Day sale, Memorial Day sale... just wait until any major US holiday); you can save more than a thousand dollars in some instances! Granted having it delivered to your house costs a couple hundred (even more if you want it delivered to the room of your choice and just dropped through your front door, and EVEN MORE if you want it set up); the warranty also costs a couple hundred... it starts to add up. But so far, sooooooooooo worth it. Thanks Kevin, you legend.

It honestly amazes me that the staff here works on commission (or at least earns a percentage of…read moresales) because they certainly do not act like it. I have shopped at this location multiple times and have spent hundreds of dollars in a single visit thousands over time. Every time I come in, I am polite, patient, and respectful. I smile, say excuse me, and ask for help when needed. Yet on more than one occasion, I've been met with rude behavior or attitudes that make me feel like I'm inconveniencing the staff by simply asking a question. Today was the final straw. I forgot that I had a gift card and had already paid cash. The gift card did not cover the full amount, so I politely asked if the sale could be redone so it could be applied. I was told no. There was no effort to help, no solution offered, no customer-service attempt whatsoever. So I will be returning everything and repurchasing using my gift cards, and I will not be stepping back into this store again. The staff should be ashamed of themselves. The products themselves are great. I genuinely love the clothing and quality. But customer service matters especially when you work on commission. If you are earning from sales, you should be going above and beyond, not acting bothered by the customers who are funding those commissions. Very disappointing.

Sales associates were milling about as we looked around and saw one woman was very helpful when looking for a displayed item I was interested in buying. Prices were higher then I would have thought which is where m journey ends. I will have to shop around before going back since I don't know enough about cowboy boots and usually pricing. The merchandise is a nice mix. Sadly, my husband is too tall/large for clothes there, but I highly recommend what is stocked. It's all wonderful quality garments and sharp looking as well. The service there is amazing, to say the least, However, you may have to wait a bit to get served unfortunately nature of the beast. They do some hemming and tailoring. Nothing to the extreme. If you want a fully tailored suit then maybe it is not the place for you. They do rent suits here for the customer's convenience which is great. The shirt collection is very casual for the most part along with the dress shoes. Mostly standard store layout registrars upfront rentals to the left and fitting rooms to the far back end. I was helped by a gentleman named Michel who was very quick and informative. Awesome skill and great temperament could not be happier with his help and suggestions. If you want a hemmed-up suit try to give them a week or so before your event at the earliest as it can be a busy season. There is located in a central area of south portland and very easy to get to and find parking which is a huge plus.

One person was with a customer, but two others were at the register chatting. We went over to the suits and looked for about 15 minutes, hoping someone would come over to assist us. Nope. In the Newington store, we were always greeted upon entering and, if nobody was available to help us, told that they'd be with us as soon as possible. We're an older couple, and were dressed in nice clothes - not like we looked indigent or something. They lost a potential sale of several hundred dollars. We won't be back.

So having a branch here in Portland is great--and take note that not only do they have great sales, but there's a seconds/repurposed area toward the back (and sometimes special displays) with items from the brand that are being re/upcycled, all of which cost less than regular price. What's even better is how local the vibe is in the store, and how well connected they are with the wider community of makers. Along with the brand's products the store carries little locally made gifts: everything from jewelry to soap to playing cards and chocolates. There's no set selection, but you'll always find little collections of items for sale around the store. And this weekend Toad & Co. hosted a holiday makers' market in the large back warehouse room, which was awesome! This brought in a bunch of Maine makers selling pottery, coffee, jewelry, leather goods, knitwear, cards, books, candles . . . basically I got most of my Christmas shopping done here! If you follow the signs within the mall it may create confusion. The store itself is filled with LOTS of Carhart clothing items and they have a great selection. Some of the staff is knowledgable about the products and what they don't carry in the store that you can get at other retail outlets. Staff seems friendly, but some do feel new to the retail industry. I was able to shop, find what I want and get it in a reasonable time. The fact they sit outside the mall likely creates the sense of less traffic since you have to exit the mall to walk into this store.
