I have been with this bank since 1984, when they were Cal State Employes Federal Credit Union #20…read more They have been with me through lean and flush times. Things that keep me banking here are the loan rates ...most excellent... as they are not for profit. Really personal consideration regarding you as a person with a character and commuity history when considering loan applications. They gave me a chance to estblish credit when I was young and were always helping educate me on the financial aspects of my decisions. And for many years, the very personal service. For instance, I would get a call if somehtihng was going to overdraw me and they would trasnfer from my savings so I wouldnt get dinged a fee. These older women were watching out for me as a young mother in college, and when I became a business woman myself. I have not been a fan of the change, visually or corporate wise, to them being Compass. Several long term employees left due the change in management cultur, which was previously run by several very competent women. This considerably lessened the personal greetings and general welcoming experience for me. However, I remain loyal as the rates are still good and I have a very established credit there. And as a person over 50, I need to get used to new faces that may be my next long term banking partner. I hope they focus on employee retention in the years to come. By the way, the person who couldnt access the ATM machine....all that was needed was to swipe the debit card and the door to the ATM vestibule opens. It locks again after you enter, and remains so while you transact. Its a safety precaution and very common in European banking ATMs. I ma a fan of this system. I think that person was having a bad day and just didnt see the swipe pad to access the ATM.

Previous review: I have been a member of this bank for over 25 years. Even when I moved out of state 15 years ago I kept my money here to include a ROTH IRA and savings. About 6 months ago my mother and I came to the bank to do a rollover of my ROTH account to mutual funds account at Charles Schwab to earn more money than the few cents in interest I get yearly from Coast Central. I should have done this long ago. We were there for probably 30 minutes at least. Everything was made very clear that this was a rollover of the Roth and not a withdrawal to myself and it was also made clear there would be no penalty for this by the young lady helping us. Lo and behold, tax time and my accountant tells me that Coast Central has coded the tax paperwork as a "J" which means I am not exempt from a penalty and that they needed to code it as a "G" to correctly identify this as a rollover IRA. I contacted the bank immediately upon getting this information and spoke with someone who I advised of my initial concern of the tax paperwork. She asked if she could put me on hold. I was on hold for 13 minutes and she came back to explain to me that it was a withdrawal and that Charles Schwab needed to submit on their end that it was a rollover. I explained that Charles Schwab paperwork was done correctly and it is specifically them that needs to change the code. She basically said she couldn't help me and their paperwork was correct. I don't quite understand why they would be unwilling to change a code to make it right. My assumption is they won't change it because they get a penalty then? And that would be the reason they won't change it. Cause if they didn't, why would they have an issue with changing it to reflect the correction? Why was I told one thing in person and then change it after we left? Since My mother was with me during this transaction I asked her to call them after I had hung up because I'm going to be straight up with you, all this gets me a little confused and my mom is really good with money. She told me the girl was being coached while on the phone with her which makes sense why I was on hold for so long. My mom asked to speak to whoever was coaching her and was told no because that woman was "off the clock". Yet she can coach you? That makes no sense and is very very poor customer service. Especially from the Vice President of the bank, which is who she told my mom it was. This is a warning to everyone to make sure paperwork is filled out correctly before you leave while you are watching them. How can you not trust a bank even these days?? Disgraceful.

I checked the Navy Federal CU app - to find a place to make a withdrawal - and the NFCU app directed me to Coast Central Credit Union. So I had a nice conversation with a retired Navy veteran who was standing at the front door waiting - who was in to make his weekly grocery store run. Nice guy. They opened the doors, I was second in line, the teller quickly got me set up with a withdrawal - and I was on my way to the Airport! Good service! Nice folks! #CoastCentralCreditUnion

I informed them that a wire transfer was to be done by a member, our grandmother, forwarding over 10k worth of funds. I informed them these were specific wiring instructions, and asked what they wanted for the cover letter. They asked for her name, the location of the bank (McKinleyville), my routing number which would be on the transfer, as well as the amount. She said she would get it and forward it onto the bank. ... done. I even called and left a message with the Bank Manager, Kelsey Dunn, to confirm and please call me if they had any questions. My bank created the cover, and sent it over at 8:48am. I call later at just before 11am to confirm they had gotten it. When I informed a different customer care person, they hadn't an idea about the fax, unsure if it came through, and asked which fax number we sent it to. I told them, they said it was right, but didn't see a fax. I said I'd get the bank to fax it again. BUT, went over the information again, JUST to make sure it was right, and she said yes, it was. I called my bank, they confirmed the other went through, and resent the whole thing again. I called the Customer Care center at 11:08am to confirm it came through. They checked the same fax, and sure enough, it was there. They then said that the wiring instructions had two banks on it... which I explained, it's a whole set of instructions, and should detail how it works. She then read it and saw that it was INSTRUCTIONS... which is what they requested as well. And she would get them to their SUPERVISOR. I called the McKinleyville Bank Manager, Kelsey Dunn, again, and ask her to please call me with confirmation of the wire transfer and/or instructions that they should be getting. I called the customer service center again at 1pm, to see if they had any troubles with the transfer. They said the did not see any transfers at all from that location (McKinleyville). I asked my wife to call her grandmother, and she said her grandmother was turned away when she didn't have INSTRUCTIONS needed for the wire transfer. I am immediately fuming beyond all fucking comprehension at this point. I call, and ask to talk to a manager, and get the supervisor, Shelby Thompson. She tells me that the person has never come in, and nobody remember talking to anyone of that name. I inform her, that she was turned away... because she didn't have the instructions... the very fucking ones I have sent twice, and left messages with the bank managers, and have talked with customer care center five fucking times today, detailing every bit of information that could be detailed... and SOMEHOW, SOME... HOW... nobody has been able to get them to the bank. ... she then said she'd "walk" them over. I asked what she meant by "walk", and she says that they're in the same office as the McKinleyville credit union, so she could just walk them over.... It's now 2:00pm here... by bank has closed in the Midwest, and I'm on the cusp of losing our house... simply because not one... single... fucking... person... could "walk" over to give the wiring instructions, to the person handling the wiring... I don't even have the words of how angry at the entirety of the incompetence of this whole situation is.

There was only one lady, bless her poor soul. Or should I say content soul since she works at the bank hehe I gave this bank one star for the friendly service such as an employee going around to ask if there was any way someone could use one of the two ATMs located inside. I did notice she did not go around person to person starting from the first person in line but instead started in the middle of the line. Why did she do that? A lady in line was going to deposit a check but for some reason she was told she could not do it on the ATMs ?_? Another star was given for the tranquil environment they provided while we waited. Chase has wonderful large windows. I was practicing my patience while I waited to be helped. Thankfully I had no where else to go but imagine those who were in a hurry. Damn! I arrived at the bank for some quarters at 1:16 and left at 1:40pm, phew! I gave this bank another star for being opened compared to the Arcata,CA location while reinforcing social distancing and providing antibacterial gel. Overall I have never had a negative employee experience at the Chase but I think they can improve in some areas too. Such as making more teller stations only three exist and one or two are usually open, having the ATMs provide rolls of quarters, parking space is a bit tight and narrow & having less lights on!

I have an older phone so I am unable to use the Chase app anymore so I rely on the ATM to be able to deposit my checks on evenings and weekends. So it is EXTREMELY frustrating to go and find that, once again, the ATM isn't accepting deposits. So I have to keep going back, hoping it is fixed or not be able to pay bills on time! Or I go to withdraw money on the weekend, only to find out that the ATM is again not working, so I have to go to another bank to get money and be forced to pay their outrageous fees!! With my bill's late fees and other bank's atm fees, I am actually LOSING MONEY from this bank because their only ATM is so unreliable!!!!
