Disappointing. I have been looking at photos of the original installation in Portugal, but I couldn't se it in person. I knew suburban Chicago wouldn't look like small town Portugal, but I wanted to visit anyway. This was not worth the 26 minutes it took to drive to Elmhurst. There are three installations, but only one is umbrellas. The others are chains of small multicolored discs at 254 N. York, and short multicolored strips at 110 S. Cottage Hill. The discs are interesting although the site is very small. The strips, in particular, make the site look like it's waiting for vendors to set up their tables below them, especially from a distance. . The umbrellas, installed at Schiller Court, are located in a wide pedestrian alley, which, while unlike the narrow pedestrian streets in the original Portuguese village, approximates the feel. But the umbrellas are faded, some are tilted, and some are inside out. This might have been worth it if the exhibit had been maintained, but it was just tired and sad.
