My sorors and I were celebrating the 20th anniversary of joining our illustrious organization and our goal was to do EVERYTHING Black! So of course went to Chicago on Juneteenth week/weekend which was also Black Yacht Weekend! We were looking for unique and culturally specific activities and The Bronzeville Art District Trolley Tour, hosted by the gallery was the absolute perfect find! We arrived at Gallery Guichard to music and laughter in their courtyard. We wandered inside to browse. After picking out all our favorite works and discussing them, we headed back out outside for drinks then hopped on the first trolley (a double decker sightseeing deck) to Blanc Gallery. As we road, the lively tour guide gave us some history of the neighborhood and schedule of events for the rest of the evening. When we got back to Guichard, the second trolley was right behind us so we hopped on and headed to Faie African Art. That was the final trolley but when we got back the party was still going with open houses of the artists in residence. Aside from the artwork, fellowshipping with the artists in their own spaces was my favorite part. It was truly a beautiful evening and all for FREE! I went to an event here on Saturday. This space is beautiful! There is art at every turn. It's spacious and very well maintained. I love the outdoor area with a huge art installation, a floral garden with space to sit and relax, and the room in the back of the gallery is inspiring and relaxing. The event was amazing; everyone was so nice and accommodating. I don't know if there is a cost to come on a normal day, but I would definitely come back to enjoy the art and spend some time outside. read more

The Bronzeville art district trolley tour is amazing! I'm always looking for fun safe spaces my family and I can enjoy. This experience exceeded our expectations. The artist lofts were incredible. All the artists were so warm welcoming. The trolley tour and entrance was absolutely free. Hard to believe I know, but it's true. The trolley guide and bus driver were so kind and informative. Nice Black owned business located in Bronzeville. This is definitely a beautiful place to host an event. Unique talented artists work displayed the walls of this gallery. Live DJ spinning out good tunes and open bar that services drinks. Outside patio for you to seat out and enjoy the vibes. The atmosphere was grown and sexy with mature adults walking around viewing the art and exhibits. I can't wait to visit again for another event. read more

So happy they moved to Bronzeville, but I am not nuts about the surrounding area on 47th street. After RSVPing, this time was an announcement of a finalist to the Bombay Sapphire art contest. Plenty of free drinks, passed food, and great art, even artists that 'sketch' you via computer. The event turned out well, especially for the winner (see photo) but they need to reconsider distributing free gin for 3 hours. There were security guards around to make certain people were checked in and did not just wander over, and probably to watch the artwork. We took a bus home with 2 VERY intoxicated ladies, who were funny, not 'angry drunk' but still.. I hope they kept an eye on anyone drinking and driving. Maybe they should consider a bonus/wristband for designated drivers. read more

This gallery may be a good place to have events, but beware of purchasing art from them. I paid over $12,000 on artwork that they did not deliver and refused to return any of the money already paid. Subsequent to my experience, I have found that my situation with Guichard Gallery was not unique. I wish I had known before dealing with them. read more

Great ambiance and space to view art or to host your special event. The staff and owners were very accommodating and professional. My wife and I had our wedding reception there and the artwork made the backdrop enhanced in every picture. To my surprise the gallery was spacious. The main exhibit area is where we held the reception activities. There was another section that was used as the food station. The third area which is the overflow had additional artwork and seating for mingling and conversation. The place and the venue was top notch. I strongly recommend you plan a visit and host your event there. read more

Our commercial real estate group hosted an event at Gallery Guichard today. The event was awesome, very nice venue in the heart of the Bronzeville Community. We had over 150 guest, had it catered with an open bar. What I loved the most was the art featuring local and international artists. I've only had one real experience with Gallery Guichard, but it was quite unforgettable, so I'll share it with readers and potential patrons here in the hope that they'll be able to make a fully informed decision (Note:This interaction took place when the Gallery was situated at its former location on S. Michigan Ave. in Bronzeville, in late 2012). One business day, while scanning my e-mails, I received an electronic invitation from a very dear and close friend to come to a Haitian art exhibit opening, being held at the gallery. Having never been there, but heard good things about it and knowing that my friend for as long as I have known her has only been associated with quality, I accepted the invitation. I promptly confirmed my attendance and made my way there on the appointed evening. It was truly a wonderful time. Good people, fine wine, great art in an even greater space. I loved how well the event was put together, the caliber of people it attracted and, of course, the culture. So determined was I to remain on their mailing list that I stayed behind afterward and helped them to clean up. About a month later, I received another invite to the next showing. This time it was South African art. I RSVP'd again to attend, and even assisted by re-distributing their e-vite to my own recommended list of potential attendees, and select media--at their request--and I did this free of charge. It was another elegant event, and this time around I even found a specific piece that I wanted to buy. I paid over $600 for a ceramic vase, and the owner's wife, who facilitated the transaction, asked me to just let them keep the vase at the gallery for a further three days until the exhibit had concluded, stating that they would get it to me afterward. I agreed, the owner gave me his mobile phone number to follow-up if need be, and I pitched in once more to help them clean up the venue as the evening concluded. The three days went by, and no word from the gallery. A week went by, and still no word of any kind. The three days they asked for turned into three weeks. I phoned and left messages at the gallery to no reply. Finally, I phoned the owner on his cellphone and he answered. I inquired about the status of my vase, and he said "I'm sorry, but I'm traveling in Atlanta right now and I don't recognize your name." When I finally received my ceramic vase the following week, it was cavalierly dropped off at my hi-rise building security desk in a box, with no padding, no packing paper or bubble wrap at all. It was just left there by someone who quickly departed before I got downstairs, and rolled around in the box which was appreciably too large for the item. Inside was also a "Certificate of Authenticity" verifying that I'd paid all of that money for an "original painting" which, of course, a vase is not. As I stated earlier, unforgettable. read more

What an outstanding place! The perfect Chicago art environment . A healthy mix of professional and relaxed, young and old, well-known and emerging artists. This art pot is about as "melting" as the Art Institute but it focuses on underprivileged artists AND actually gets art sold by means of the eccentric, educated and engaged crowd the gallery has created. People who come to visit either spend money at that event or have the financial ability to do so and will later, if they haven't done so in the past. The proceeds all go back to the local artist, many of whom live in the community. This is what community engagement is and what financially empowering a community looks like. Organically funded, grassroots organized, and locally supported to start then globally marketed by word of mouth and organized brand representation. This gallery is epic and will prove to be a historical example of community growth for everyone. Since it's Bronzeville inception in the early 2000s this gallery has proved to be an incubator for community social change and local wealth management. The real take away here though is that this place is always having fun events with free drinks and bites. You get to feel like an elite member of the community ABD get treated like one, even if you're not; no judgement, for a night of art and intellectual conversation. Thank you Gallery Guichard! Gallery Guichard is a gem in the Bronzeville neighborhood. The art is very tasteful. It's not a lot of galleries that showcase such a variety of black art in the Chicago area at affordable prices. Gallery Guichard is the epitome of African-American Art. The owners Mr. & Mrs. Andre Guichard are so knowledgeable of every single piece of art in their gallery. This is a must see! read more

It's been awhile since I have been able to visit this gem in the bronzeville area. It it a focal point stop as part of the Bronzeville Trolley tour. Beautiful space and well utilized. The Guichards, Andre and Frances are two of the most personable people around. The art in the gallery is often from local artist along with up and coming African American artist. They have three gallery areas on the main level and artist's lofts, which are really cool on the 2nd and 3rd levels. The owners love to talk about the works on display and encourage questions. They believe in introducing art to the community, especially youth and young adults. If you see something that you like, ask Andre and he will work with you to help you learn that great art can be affordable. A sculpture garden will be in the works soon. I look forward to seeing. Street parking can be tough. Unpaved lot next door. Take the opportunity to invest a little time there. It will be well worth the trip. read more

While I believe that Gallery Guichard is a beautiful place that features unique art installations, portraits and the perfect backdrop to an event, it lacks excellent service and a good user experience for its customers renting the gallery. Here are a few areas of improvements that will create repeat customers: A checklist of items that are given to the customers in the decision-making process that outlines catering requirements, security, table, chairs etc. That will help customers weigh in why Gallery Guichard would be the best value event facility for their upcoming event. It was a lot of hidden info that we didn't know until weeks prior to the event. Having a checklist will allow for the customers to inquire for more clarity and understanding before booking because there is some ambiguity in the language provided for the purchaser. Once the deposit is made, a representative from Gallery Guichard should reach out to the customer to ask if catering had been decided, etc and/or provide a list of their preferred list as a resource. In our case, we made our deposit on April 15th, 2018 and no one reached out to us for follow up for a final walkthrough until we contacted them on August 12th for a walkthrough with our bartenders. Our event was scheduled for August 25th. Consistent Communication Messaging - Different people stated different things and their delivery wasn't pleasant. So, that one document might help as it would highlight all of the elements needed and all of the items already submitted. Be more problem solvers - After discovering our caterer didn't have the proper certification a week prior to the celebration event, they were not helpful in helping us locate another one or just be a kind resource especially since we have already submitted full payment so canceling was not an option and we had already given our first caterer a deposit. A sample response could have been, "We are happy to refer some of our preferred caterers. They are familiar with our space so you don't have to worry about having to do a walkthrough however, we don't know if they are able to accommodate your menu but we would be delighted to share their info with you. " Art Agreement- On our invoice, if art was sold, we would receive 5% of the art purchase. While we thought that was a cool offer, there were no visible price tags on the art on the day of our event nor was there anyone walking around to inquire about the art if there was an interest. Again, great offer but poor execution on their part. When people are planning celebrations like milestones they are looking for the venue to serve as a trusted partner and thought leader to help bring their celebrations to life. So, I believe providing excellent customer service is universal and we just didn't get that. We think it is a lovely space and we hope with these improvements, they can win us back and provide a better customer (user) experience. read more

Went here for the monthly art museum tour and was pretty blown away. So, the first floor is where most of the art is and all of the work was amazing to see. The other floors are art lofts where artists live but during the art museum tours, the artists open up their homes for you to see the art they have inside. There's also art in the halls on the 2nd an 3rd floor as well. A lot of great pieces by black artists and I believe everything there was on sale. You just needed to ask an employee for the pricing. During the tour, they pass out horderves and have drinks for you as well. It was a pretty great time and I'm looking forward to going back! read more

I have been to Gallery Guichard on two occasions and have been thoroughly impressed during both visits. The owners, Andre and Frances Guichard are knowledgeable, highly professional, friendly and gracious. The artwork is fabulous and the atmosphere is second-to-none.
