    Pho soup with beef, excellent!

This restaurant. All that comes into my mind is WOW. I love asian food, especially Vietnamese and Indonesian. Umami defines itself as an Indochinese restaurant - perfect! Beautiful restaurant is located in the trendy Prenzlauer Berg area, where you can find tons of great restos. Menu sounds delicious and proved to be that too. I took scallops for entree, they were such a treat! Just the right amount of soy sauce and ginger - the delicate flavor of scallops was still present. For main course I chose the beef pho (noodle soup) and it was very well cooked. Pho is my all time favorite food so you can count on my word here. The service was very good and price moderate. Would definitely go here again. Oh and we enjoyed our dinner at the big terrace, so nice :)

A sunny sunday in Prenzlauer Berg. The terraces in front of the Wasserturm are jammed with people. All but one. Weird. Anyway we're going to Umami, the new "indochin" restaurant, totally empty of strollers. Good choice : the terrace is really impressive with an improbable mix between old colonial french style and new hip Berlin places. You have to try also the restrooms, which seems to be a part of the indochin trip. The (very nice) waiters seem to come more from the Fashion week than from a Mekong's trip. I cannot really say from which part of Indochin the food is. It seems to be a diligent version of fusion vietnamese food -- but maybe it's cambodgese or laotian. The "indochin" thing is just a way to have a nostalgic decoration, I guess. (Be careful, because of Yelp's bot's stupidity, I thought at first it was a indonesian restaurant) I've tried the Mekong Fish and chips, which is definitely worth a try. The "fish" is a baked salmon and the "chips" are sweet potatoes, the whole served with delicious snow peas and Wasabi cream. It goes well with the smoothie "Melon lover" (watermelon, berries, orange and mint). So in my "Günstig und lecker" scale : - Günstig : 4/5 - Lecker : 5/5

I had to come back once more to that place to give it an honest review as I almost forgot the taste of it and also I feel like I haven't tried the right things. So I came back with a friend, last time I've tried the family menu which had plenty of little dishes to sample, but this time I thought it would be better to get my own dish. We sat down inside on the carpet, and I felt bad the waiters had to take their shoes off to get to us every time, poor them! We had the golden stew- curry with macadamia sauce and veggies, I was a bit disappointed when the menu said it will contain sweet potatoes, potatoes and carrots but got like a million piece of carrot and half a piece of sweet potato (which is my favorite one from the list) Still was tasty, a hearty dish and a nice portion of rice. Since we arrived on lunch time we got a little free herb soup with appetizer which was a good opening for this cold cold day Then we became a bit thirsty, so I've ordered my favorite strawberry lime drink with basil seeds and lychee on top, was super tasty, a bit of aftertaste (probably because of the soda) but still ok Overall I have to say I really like this restaurant, feels very cozy. The service is sometimes a bit slow as they just don't look towards that area but everything arrives really quick and with a smile :)

When you step into that restaurant between Kollwitzplatz and the Water Tower, it feels like being thrown back to the Vietnam of the 50s. The interior is really superb and so are all the bowls and plates. Alone that and the friendly staff make it worth a visit I have to admit. Their food is pretty solid and way better than most Vietnamese places I've tried so far in Berlin. They use a lot of fresh herbs and spices which add a good natural flavour. Portions are big and they don't save on meat, tofu or prawns. I also love their teas. They are done real Asian style and all are super fresh and yummy. Overall a great place to come for lunch or dinner. Prices are rather above average. I come here at least once a week and I am still not bored of it!

This place has great vibes and great food. I was just craving for rice and found what I wanted. Also their crispy chicken is really crispy and delicious. Maybe, it's not the best place to talk while eating, because it can get really loud, but otherwise this place is nice to hang out.

Amazing indo Chinese restaurant! I loved the setting of the tables outsides, with lanterns and wooden tables. I tried the vegetables rolls and a soup with seafruit which were delicious and a mango panna cotta which was incredible! Very low prices compared to the quality of the food and to the atmosphere.

Checked out this place since looked crowded. The name fooled me thinking it was japanese or korean but after looking at the menu.. It was vietnamese catered to western palates. I am used to terrific Vietnamese and I know that is is diffficult to find authentic Vietbamese restaurants. This place has good decor and presentation. The vibre and cocktail variations drawsnin the hip trendy crowd. I ordered the Angry Calamari which was basically calamari, kim chi, veggie with white rice cooked in a clay pot. There was nothing unique or distinct about it. You could get it at a regular chinese diner and serve it in a clay pot. The other dish was the scallop served in 3 spoons.. I did not enjoy that one since it was a mouthful of soysauce or and salty seasonings.. I would not recommend here for dishes I have tried but only for the vibe

If you want something simple but nice, this place is perfect! It's nicely decorated and they have a perfect selection of dishes - for both meat- and vego lovers. The food quality is not the best though, it doesn't taste bad, but for the around 8€ a dish it's a bit too dry and the products are not that fresh. I like the service, for being constantly full, they are fast and super friendly.

Rude inattentive staff, burned food. And we had to wait half h to eat. It's enough for giving 2 stars rating. Will never come back

we happened past this joint on a quiet night at the start of the week whilst wandering through the…read morearea and thought that it had a great charm and ambience we're often in mitte and wanted to try something new, and the sign in the window said that the restaurant had recently opened! perfect. i'm always excited when a new chinese place opens up in berlin. i find that there's lot of vietnamese, thai and japanese options, but not many good (let alone authentic) chinese options hanging around. so we walked in, planning on taking a seat on the chairs out front and the waiter informs us that there is also a lovely terrace (hinterhof) out back where we can sit! great! the terrace is really lovely vines climbing the walls, removed from the busy street out front. we ended up ordering mostly from the dim sum menu, as my friend and i looove chinese dim sum and it's near impossible to find any good ones in berlin. the dim sum dishes were all typical chinese dishes, such as prawn rice roll dumplings and my all time favourite fried sesame balls filled with red bean paste (a typical chinese dessert strange perhaps to western ears, but very very tasty!), some of which i haven't at all seen since coming to berlin! all in all they were very tasty. the main menu was a little harder to decipher- aside from the dim sum menu, there was the standard menu from which we ordered an item from the IN RUSH section. It's not so clearly marked, but one orders the main dish (we had the shrimp with taro, cashews and green asparagus) and then has the choice of side order. my friend took the fragrant rice, but you could also get fried sweet potatoes, which i LOVE. we didn't order from the wine menu, but the drinks list was very extensive and we saw a well stocked cellar on the way in. it would be worth asking the waiter how to navigate the food menu if you're not sure about how it should follow. all in all a lovely new chinese retaurant with a relaxed ambience, without losing its charm. the place has been well renovated and looks great. the dim sum dishes were on the cheaper side, but also a bit smaller than one expects, so order a couple more to share. we had a chat with the owner (who served us) about the place, which opened up about a month ago, who seemed like a really lovely guy, passionate about his restaurant. we recommend you stop by and try it out, if not just to try out the dim sum! i recommend the dumplings, sesame balls and the lotus filled buns. yummy!
