He has contributed to some of the most insightful and eye opening articles that expose the dirty truths about the windows industry. An example of this is the dirty secret behind vinyl windows and the "compliant standards" (E.g., even if your initial standards such as the U factor meet code, the windows are not the same because crappy vinyl windows will break down in blazing heat and those specs won't hold up in the future). Some of you may say that's general industry knowledge that everyone should know (ok....), but there are many other examples. For example, he exposed the flaw in the energy efficiency government guidelines. Let me explain this. To measure true energy efficiency, you must take into account the heat loss from the window AND heat transferred through sunlight into the house. Long story short, he made the correct argument that a window with a higher u-factor (more heat loss) and lower radiation transfer into the house (solar heat gain coefficient SGHC) that is not energy star compliant can actually be MORE energy efficient than an energy star compliant window. To summarize in common English, he challenged and disproved a common industry belief. It was totally mindblowing when I did the math. He was right. He also made the case for aluminum windows over vinyl in the South. Again, totally right and mindblowing because everyone trashes alum windows, but the particular brand he recommends absolutely creams any vinyl out there in look and specs. His website has fantastic knowledge articles which I suggest anyone read and most importantly, he has a LIFETIME INSTALLATION warranty. Now that may not sound like much because every business has a "warranty" but not all warranties are created equal and have almost certainly have a million exclusion clauses. Not so for Randy. Finding a warranty that is this comprehensive is like finding a unicorn. No "if and or but" when it comes to install related issues. He will take care of them. Randy is an incredible and friendly guy and I would go so far out and say that the 1 negative reviewer on yelp probably misinterpretted Randy. I got on a phone call when he knew he couldn't get business from me because I'm so far away and he's been guiding me through the past year on my problems. If and once I expand my business to Houston, there is no doubt in my mind that Randy will get all of my window business. Rest assured you are getting the very best and if you have any doubts go to "replacement window" forum (search on google) and see the comments and praise he has gotten over the past decade. Ultra Windows was fantastic to work with. We worked with them to replace all our windows. Working with Ultra Windows from the initial estimate through installation was easy. From the initial estimate from Randy and Brock through installation via George and team this was a extremely profession process. Randy and Brock were very patient as I over thought and over analyzed the initial window proposal. They were VERY responsive and patient with my endless questions. Once the order was placed we were kept up to date on delivery and installation. This was NOT easy given the current supply chain and COVID-19 issues! We were never left wondering and our installation dates were great. Once the install started George and team were fantastic. The installation team was one of our major deciding factors. The work that George and team do is outstanding! Window replacement is a messy job. The team kept everything clean. They removed our existing windows with no major breakage. This was great as we are not concerned with leftover glass around our yard! The new window install was clean and neat as well. For our house we did have some window trim that needed replacement. This was perfectly repaired and looks great! Overall this was a fantastic project and Utra Windows more than exceeded our expectations! We have had a few neighbors compliment our new windows so others are also impressed. We have had a few months to let everything settle in and the windows are fantastic. There is definitely less outside noise. We did have a few cold days this last winter and given our previous 20+ year old windows the new Don Youngs are better insulated. I called Ultra Windows on a Saturday to see if they could replace a couple of broken windows. A lengthy wait for an answering service told me they would get with me on Monday. Someone named Randy called back and left me a message on Saturday - stating he 'normally doesn't work on Saturday', but figured he would give me a call. When I returned the call, he asked how many windows needing replacing and I said '2'. His tone changed *markedly*. He was openly rude saying he had a crew that supported changing out a minimum of 5 windows (gosh, do most people need that many replaced?) and that it would be a 'waste of his time' to service me and he would just have to charge me an enormous amount to come out. He indicated (also) that, while he was based in Montgomery (where I live) most of his work was in Houston. It was one of the rudest vendor conversations I have ever had. I only called due to the good reviews here - but, I wonder if the bad interactions just result in people forgetting about using them. I will never (even if my whole house needs the windows replace) ever consider using them. read more

Ultra Windows did an amazing job replacing our old windows. We went with Don Young windows. We were impressed with Randy immediately, no hard sell tactics, explained his crew has been with him for many years and how they will do the install. The care taken to protect our furnishings and floors was impeccable. They cleaned up after each window with no broken glass or dirt left behind. We had Randy and his crew replace all 50+ single pane aluminum windows in our 1990s home a few months ago. This was a large job and Randy guided us through the whole process. Until we met with Randy we had focused on vinyl replacement windows but after talking with Randy, we were sold on the advantages of going with the double paned thermally improved aluminum. Randy also brought our attention to using bronze windows instead of white like the original windows. He showed us many pictures and sent us to another customer who had installed bronze windows in their home. We took about 6 months to decide and Randy didn't hound us during that time. When we were ready, Randy honored the same quote we had previously received even though 6 months had passed. This was a large job that took 5 full days. We were so impressed with the crew. They stayed until dark every day and cleaned up each and every day. Our house didn't feel like it was under construction at all. Randy came by and visited throughout installation to check and make sure we were happy. We changed the size 3 windows which required coordinating with a brick mason which Randy handled seamlessly. We could not be happier with our decision to use Ultra windows. The caulk lines are immaculate and I was shocked we didn't need to do any paint touch up at all anywhere in the whole house. The windows made a huge difference to the look of our home both from outside and inside, not to mention not feeling the heat and cold like we used to with the old windows. The front of our home gets evening sun and we used to feel the heat of the evening sun coming through our large foyer windows, but not anymore. I had Randy come give us an estimate based on these Yelp reviews. I also had two other companies. I went with Ultra Windows based on the installation process (using spray foam insulation around every window) and the quality of windows he suggested. We did the front of the house first and then did the back a few months later. The installation crew are perfectionists. We are beyond pleased with our windows. Some perks we noticed are decreased outside noise and hardly any dust in the house anymore! It is so nice not to have heat pour through single pane windows anymore. We also had them replace a back door recently and again we are beyond pleased. I really cannot say enough about the installation and how particular they are with getting it right.
