I had a great time diving with Ultra Dive. We dove Oil rig 393B. This was a spectacular, exciting, bio diverse dive. Nice boat, knowledgeable and friendly captain, great service while communicating with Carolyn during the booking process. We should have listened to Captain Al when he said "take your seasick tablets when you feel you need it", shame on us. After more than 400 dives we thought we were immune to sea sickness, we were wrong. Will book Ultra Dive again in the coming spring, this time we will be taking some Bonine, as the Gulf can be unpredictable. read more

I am the husband of Connie G who previously wrote the not so nice review. I just talked to Captain Al about this experience and he has offered to give us a free trip to make up for our previous one. With all that was said in Connie's review. We had driven a long way and did want to go out. I think we all knew it was going to be a gamble but hoped the weather would calm down and we could find some clear water. Capt. Al did go out a lot farther than he normally would have gone in search of blue water. There was just not any to be found this day. Not all dive trips turn out good. The weather is really what made this one bad, but as a group we chose to go out anyway. To have a man offer to make up for it at his own personal expense says a lot to me about Capt. Al's honesty and character. In addition, we have heard that he has really made a lot of improvements to the boat. We now would defiantly recommend him, and look forward with going back out with him in the near future for some great gulf rig diving. Johnny G. read more

Captain Al took us for a two tank dive around the oil rigs on Sunday - late August- and his personal experience and concern with sharing with us the best dive experience in the gulf made it a spectacular trip. Sunday Funday. His knowledge of the area and familiarity with the waters and rigs ensured a SAFE fun dive which we were able to encounter great marine life for the area. Dolphins, Sharks, Barracudas, and endless schools of fish - game and non-game fish and a little bit of treasure hunting on the bottom of the rig. Under his advisement we dove at a particular spot where visibility was up to 80 feet. The out of water experience was also exemplary. They provide all services necessary with diving; just like you--these people love to be on the water and under the water. The boat was comfortable with Captain, 6 divers, and a DM (knowledgeable & experienced DM). Cptn & DM were curious, safe, personable and folks you have an instant rapport with. I would repeat diving with this charter as well as recommend to friends. read more

My husband and I have just got our open-water certifications and we were looking for an experienced local scuba diving charter service to take us offshore diving. We are happy to say we found Ultra Dive on the internet and scheduled a trip with them. Capt. Al was friendly, exceptionally knowledgeable about diving and running a dive boat. But what impressed me the most was his concern for our safety. Because this was our first Gulf of Mexico open water dive, he recommended that we stay close to his dive master throughout the dive, so we did. The dive was great, visibility was around 70 feet and we saw lots of fish including a stingray that measured about five feet across. I would recommend Ultra Dive to anyone interested in scuba diving. read more

If you are looking for a no frills boat to take you out for a dive and a Captain who is personable and will take you a little further to make sure to get the best views in the clearest water, then this is the guy to see. We had to send a deposit in by mail which I didnt mind as I hate giving out cc info over the phone any ways. If you want to be catered to and need assistance with diving equipment then you probably should look elsewhere, but the price definately reflects that as this charter was $75.00 less than the others that I checked out. All in all it was a good dive, a good day and a good deal! read more

We took off Sunday Morning with high hopes. Capt. Al was a nice Guy, however the boat was not like the webpage. They did not have AC, anyplace to sit, refrigerator, easy ladder to get out, or tank storage. The seas were 5-10 feet. We had a Dive Master with less experience than any of us. The tanks were stored on a bed below deck. It was so rough the tanks fell off the bed, valves first and blocked the door. We had to take the hinges off the portal above this room to gain access to the blocked door. By this time about 5 tanks ran out of Air. Connie's tanks had 230 psi in one and the other was completely empty. She borrowed one of Scott's (thanks Scott). Connie and the Dive Master were very sea sick, even though she took medicine before. When we finally got to the Rig it was so rough we couldn't tie up to it. We just bailed off the side and into the water. We all met up inside of the rig framing. We went down to 80 feet trying to find some clear water. There was none, at the best the Vis. was 5 feet or less. There were lots of fish, but they were in and out of vision in seconds. I was like being in a washing machine above 30 foot. I cut my finger on a sea urchin and cut my leg on a barnacle. I was bleeding everywhere and starting hearing the jaws theme song in my head. Connie and I decided we had enough, and got out after 40 minutes, and we were the last to get out. The ladder to get back in was about 1 1/2 foot wide and a piece of junk, very hard to get back in the boat. (again the website states they had a good step ladder for easy entrance back in the boat.) We had all had enough and wanted to go back, forget the second dive. None of us knew what the conditions were going to be like when we got out there. We put our trust in the Charter Capt. He should have never taken us out in those conditions.( maybe he needed the money) By the way Capt. Beard Charters would not go out. In all it was a very expensive disaster. I asked Scott and Sandy what they thought and they ranked this as their worst ocean dive ever. Al didn't even get to go in because the ladder was so small, he worried he would blow out his knee that he had knee replacement surgery on. Oh well as they say sometimes you get the bird, sometimes you just get feathers. read more

We had booked a dive with Captain Al before we were to leave on a cruise. We had even paid for it and flew out to Galveston two days ahead of our cruise departure so that we could do the dive. We made our children and my mother come along so that we could dive the oil rig in Freeport because I heard they were spectacular. My husband did not want to do it but I begged and pleaded for nearly three months so he relented...he researched dive companies and Captain Al's had the highest reviews...boy DID WE MAKE A MISTAKE. I spoke with his wife and she talked everything up. She had me so excited about what I was going to see, so much so that I was talking about it at work! The day before we left she called our house to tell us that the other two parties had back out so they would be cancelling our trip! What??? Just because they backed out, does mean you cancel us...at least no other company has ever done that to us and we have been doing this for the past 6 years (booking a week of dives - one day in 5-6 different cities in the Atlantic and Caribbean every summer)...Sometimes we are in a boat by ourselves, sometimes there is one other couple, two other couples, the most there has been is 3 other couples but regardless the ship has always sailed! We even offered to pay more...The day of, we got a call that the seas were too choppy but our understanding is that even choppy on top often is like glass at depth...it seemed like they just did not want to take us out. Had we not received the call the day before, perhaps the call the day of may have been less fishy...there was no offer to try later in the day. Another couple in our hotel was able to go on their dive so the water was not choppy everywhere??? Buyer beware! read more
