I have mild cerebral palsy and I suffered a traumatic brain injury a few years ago. Some of my muscles are tight and spastic, while others are paralyzed. My doctor recommended that I exercise to increase my range of motion and to stretch my muscles. I started exercising on my own, but eventually I stopped because I lost interest and drive. I started searching for an exercise facility that would accept beginners, have exercise classes available, and have trainers that would motivate me to continue to get stronger. UCTC has all of these characteristics...and more! I called UCTC to try out a free kickboxing class. Todd, one of the trainers, answered the phone. I explained to him that I was interested in trying out the class and explained my situation to him. He enthusiastically welcomed me to try out the class and see if it was a fit for me. Even though I read that UCTC welcomes people with all abilities, I was still a little hesitant. However, my fear changed once I walked in the door. Todd met me with gleaming eyes and a big smile on his face. He showed me the basic kickboxing moves and some modifications that I could use on the bag. He was excited for me to start the class! Members of all ages and abilities started walking in to take the class. I already felt welcomed and at home! Since I have been taking the kickboxing class, I have gotten stronger and faster. On my first day of class, I was only able to touch the bottom plastic base of the bag with my foot. Now, I am able to balance, turn my hip, and kick the bag. Initially, I was only able to touch the bag with my gloves. Now, I am able to put force behind my punches...and I am able to extend my "tight" arm muscles farther. I am excited to continue and get even stronger! AJ, Mike, Kourtney, Matt and Todd (the trainers) have all been awesome. Each one has their own teaching style, but they all give us a hard workout. When I feel like I can't perform one more pushup or punch the bag anymore, their encouragement helps me push through the pain and to finish strong. Todd has taken me under his wing. When he is teaching the class, he tells me that I have improved in a particular technique and to push it up to the next level. AJ and Mike, the owners, have made me feel like family. They have built up a community environment at UCTC. They present theme nights through the franchise I Love Kickboxing, they sometimes offer fruit and smoothies to members after class, and they encourage trainers and members to dialogue with and to support each other. I just returned from a trip to Salt Lake City for business, and decided to drop in my old gym, Ultimate Combat Training Center. I trained at UCTC for about a decade when it was located in Kearns. I had to look the place up because I hadn't been to SLC in a while, and the Yelp page came up when I searched for it. I damn near fell off my chair when I read a review that said the trainers don't know what they are doing?!? I was super stoked when I found out Mike was still teaching Muay Thai classes, and that Freddie was still with him after all these years. Dave and Jason are still running awesome BJJ classes, and their boxing program was incredible as always. (I always hated sparring those guys, cuz they kicked my butt) :) My job takes me all around the country and I've had the pleasure of training at some of the best gyms in the country, but I will always call UCTC home. First of all, They know their stuff!!! Secondly, this group of people are some of the coolest people you are ever gong to meet!! The gym is always immaculately clean. (You would not believe how dirty some gyms are!) Even when there is a new person at the front desk when I walk in, I am treated like I am at home. They are always super friendly, because that is the culture of this place. UCTC will always be my first stop when in SLC, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an awesome place to practice martial arts. I've only had 2 lessons from the trainers at this training center and I can already tell you that they are dedicated to nothing but you. Period. I am BRAND NEW to martial arts or any fighting. The trainer I worked with seemed a little bit unhappy at first that I had no experience (probably because he was sick with the flu and didn't feel good) but despite my inexperience he gave me 110% even though he was sick making sure I understood any questions that I had on anything. I can tell you from only 2 lessons that every dime of your money you spend here is worth it. The whole staff was incredibly friendly too. The manger Mike seemed like he genuinely cared about how my experience was. He also seemed like he had a personal relationship with all the clients that have been going to their training center. All of their staff did. The man with the awesome beard (Todd) that signed me up also seemed like he genuinely cared about what I wanted from them and my goals. I absolutely look forward to spending my entire year that I signed up for with them. All the clients that I met were incredibly friendly and willing to help me as well. If you're considering a membership at this facility but you're even slightly intimidated by the thought of it, don't be. The trainers are patient and the clients are friendly. Mike and his team are awesome, genuinely good people. Their goal is my goal (get my fat ass in shape) I have been going for about 1.5 months and love it. I am amazed at how many people want to go to this gym for free however. This is not unlike most other gyms out there when it comes to memberships. The monthly fees are higher if you only want to pay month to month. The much better deals are had to buy a year membership. The person who complained about not getting their membership fee back would have had the same luck anywhere else she had purchased a year membership, or cell phone or cable tv or security service or anything else that discounts deeply for making that commitment.. Mike busts his butt over 70 hours a week so we can go to as many classes as we want. So bad reviewer aside, the rest of us appreciate UCTC 100% Come to a class and find out for yourself how awesome this place really is. Mike gives you the first one free! I will be the fat bearded guy cheating on my push-ups... (Well for another month or so anyway) Hopefully you wont recognize me after that.!! read more

I started to train with Mike back in 2000 when the school was located in Kearns, he was my kickboxing coach, and he brought MMA to Utah, creating a mma event called Ultimate Combat Experience, which I had the chance to be part of it fighting mma and muay thai fights. After all these years I still train with him when i can, I always come back to the uctc family, I love the people, the staff, the classes and the environment there. Mike has been in business for over 30 years and keep on going, that tells you a lot. Of course there will always be people that doesn't share the same experience, people that like to complain when things don't go their way, and this is what is wrong with our society, always trying to blame on others, be a man and recognize your mistake before you open your mouth. Years ago, I decided to start my venture into martial arts and found UCTC. At UCTC I have found a little bit of everything from people who are just trying to get back into shape, the one who always has to win in everything (ha! it's always fun to train with them), the natural, beginners, Intermediate, a team, family and professional fighters. UCTC has a lot to offer the community and caters to every person in your family from little kids, teenager and adult. Classes that could help anyone learn self control, discipline, respect and along the way it will help you get into shape. I have had the chance to bring my family over several times and we all have enjoyed to be part of their classes and training programs. I always enjoy my time there. I recommend you give them a try. UCTC is not your typical gym for many reasons. The most important one to me is that you don't become a member you become family. The atmosphere in this gym is far different than your average gym. If you are looking to meet incredible people, reach your fitness goals, and learn martial arts in the process UCTC is the place for you. Classes are always high energy and you leave feeling accomplished with either your workout and or with what new skills you've learned. A wide variety in instructors each one amazing but each very different in their personality and style of teaching. Another bonus is that doesn't matter what time of day it is they almost always have a class going on so its hard to use the excuse their schedule doenst fit with mine... which is great and prevents you from slacking :) id give this gym a 10 out of 10. read more

I'm not gunna lie, I was more than a little bit apprehensive about coming to this place. I thought it would be full of 'tough guys' with a chip on their shoulder. What I found was the complete opposite! The owner greets every one of his customers with a big smile and a high-five. The instructors are clearly interested in YOU. The place is clean, and there is a culture of awesomeness. I felt like I was part of the family within minutes of walking through the door. Now for the best part...The classes are AMAZING!!! I have never sweat so much in my life, but was having so much fun I didn't realize I was working so hard until I had to wring my shirt out afterward! I just wanted to start learning how to box for some cardio work, to get into shape, and also to learn some self-defense techniques. Over the past few training sessions, Mike, has taught me a whole lot about boxing, and the training has been nothing but informative, but most of all, fun! From all of the people that work there, to my classmates, everything has been great. If youre looking to start learning some self defense, a workout group, or just trying to get into shape; then I definitely recommend this place. After many sessions of working out with the same people, you start to develop a family like relationship with everyone there and it just makes the experience so much more fulfilling. Fun friendly atmosphere. Stellar trainers that are patient and willing to work with you every step of the way from beginner to advanced; kids classes available too. Awesome deals for classes are happening all the time. A cohesive place for people to meet and enjoy a fun workout experience together. The classes are fun and actually being able to punch something really makes the hour go by fast, you're done before you know it and will end up staying for another class or staying to hang out and socialize with members and staff. I have been going to the UCTC for a couple years now, on and off because of life events, and I am able to return with open arms and smiling faces. The schedule is great. I can go at 6:30 AM or go as late as 8:00 PM. They have weights, jump ropes and medicine balls that are available to the members. Which is great when I want to switch up my workout. I love love love the positive energy and all the friendly people ( members, trainers and the owner). Theme nights are fun and a great way to get to know everyone and it's always family friendly. There is kid classes too. They put some of us adults to shame. I would say my experience with the UCTC family is 10x better then any of my previous gym memberships. read more

I have been going to I Love Kickboxing since February 18, 2016 3-5 times a week. The trainers are amazing and I am making some great new friends. Kickboxing is my new favorite hobby, (I'm probably a bit addicted!) I have also tried the Muay Thia and the boxing classes too.... love them! I knew my hard work was really paying off when I went to go lift weights with a friend of mine 2 months later and have her notice the definition in my arms and be able to rock the hanging leg raise machine because of the strength in my abs I have been developing! I recommend this place to anyone and everyone who wants to get an incredible workout and feel like a bad ass while doing it!!!!! read more

This is one of the best gyms I have signed up for. They offer a variety of classes such as kickboxing, Muay Thai, Brazilian jitsu, etc. I have only been trying the kickboxing classes and they are amazing. The instructors are very friendly and always push your limits. Each instructor has their own style and unique personality but they all share the same values - making sure the classes are fun, challenging and motivational! They also have gray playlists that cheer you up! You will see significant change in your body and strength after a couple months. The first class is free so you should give it a try! Knowledgeable staff and fun environment make this one of the best fight gyms in the area. Others have already noted the great workouts and professionalism of the staff (Mike, Matt, and Todd all lead great workouts). But I might also add that UCTC is a remarkably friendly and welcoming outfit; from the trainers and long-time members, to the newest students--everyone has a positive attitude. Make sure to check out the ring, cage, and training equipment (weights, double-end bags, banana bag racks, speed and upper-cut bags, etc.) in the back half of the gym. I've been with UCTC since April and they ain't playin patty cakes over there. They promote positive energy and encourage confidence it's not a gym it's a tribe. Besides the Killer environment, I freaking LOVE the workout #purificationbysweat I always leave that place drenched it's your own fault if you don't. The cost is very reasonable for a personal trainer and all of the classes (which I need to explore more to gain better technique) go with the year which was a no brainer. I've been going to UCTC since Feb 2015 and I wish I had done it sooner. The trainers are super friendly and helpful and always willing to help a novice with the correct way of doing the moves. I have never felt better since I started working out there. With the everyday stress of daily life added with working full-time and caregiving my 91-year old mother who has Alzheimer's, UCTC has practically saved my sanity as well as improved my health. My wife and I both joined about 2 weeks ago! It has been nothing but great. Every instructor is personable and cares about you. They will make sure that you have good form and know what your doing. I love that we are all there for different reasons and no one feels judged at all! You are welcomed by not only the staff but by all the other people there to work out. The Ultimate Combat Training Center is a clean, friendly workout/ training facility. The instructors are knowledgeable and seem motivated to really help you learn. I'm not an MMA fighter, most the men and women that attend aren't. Its just a diverse group of people wanting to learn some self defense skills while getting into the best shape of their lives...and having a total blast doing it.
