Since day one, everyone has taken an interest in my learning and progression. These people really care about me, yea they care about my Jiu jitsu journey, but also me as a person. I went looking for high level grappling, I found a family of all levels and walks of life all grappling together. The professor Duayne is amazingly respectful, and complimentary. I came in knowing nothing, yet he immediately told me I did well at a few things. It is consistent, he corrects movements or strategies that are wrong, but always politely and offers far more compliments than criticisms. I can not recommend this more highly. Come find me for a roll if you come in.

I attended the Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai classes during my stay. All staff, instructors, and students were very welcoming, friendly, and respectful. Of the classes I took, Pedro and Joel were the instructors and you can immediately tell they both have extensive experience. Their instruction, approach, knowledge, and interaction are all reasons for anyone to come in and experience this gym. If you are looking for a place to train permanently or if you are just in town and want to get good quality work in, you can't go wrong at Sierra MMA. Thank you Pedro for the hospitality, I will definitely be back in during my next visit to Utah.

Good mix of boys and girls in the class. My girls enjoyed coming all week and now want to sign up for regular classes. All happy kids there! The owner of First BJJ has amazing experience and credentials; he has several that are worth looking into like being a 3x world champion in BJJ but my favorite story was learning how the ruler of the United Arab Emirates invited Carlos to come to UAE to teach the country BJJ and worked in Abu Dhabi for 9 years. I asked Carlos if he still keeps in touch with the royal family, "nope", what?! lol. We in Utah are very lucky to have Carlos and his gym here. Has been running 10 yrs and counting! It is a well run studio and SUPER CLEAN. They always disinfect the mats, so important since students are in close contact with people on the mats every class. Recommend this place if you want to become a proper BJJ competitor or learn for the joy of the martial art.

It's so positive, and teaches the kids so much more than martial arts; they also emphasize important life skills like respect, accountability/responsibility, and compassion. The instructors Josh and Hannah are phenomenal and truly care about the students as well. This summer we missed a couple of weeks in a row due to vacations and when my son returned, they (or older students) automatically did extra one on one time with him during classes to help catch him up. They empower and encourage the kids while challenging them at the same time. But most importantly for me, I've seen a huge surge in confidence in my son which means the world to me. Watching him practice his skills at home (because he wants to) and being excited to do them in class has been awesome. He's got better body awareness as well and so many of the skills they're learning transfer to other sports. I also appreciate the flexibility in the schedule with how busy things are. I can't recommend them enough-- thanks Tiger Rock!
