Walked in to Ulta and was greeted immediately, 2 associates advised they'd be happy to assist me. Their Perfumes and body care items have many on my favorites well stocked and on hand. Some items are pricey, some at a great value, but I felt like it's less than department store cost. I'm going to check out some of the haircare products on my next visit. This location is a true mess. I'm giving 2 stars because they did have the products I was looking for, but the service of the staff is deplorable. The women at the makeup area could use some lessons in self-awareness and professionalism, if not coaching about the way that bias affects the store's bottom line. I was in the store for approximately 40 minutes and wasn't greeted until halfway through my visit. As I attempted to compare options, the women stood around sharing their personal stories and plans, never once even bothering to look my way. In addition, I had to go around them to get to the makeup I was interested in, but they were never prompted to ask whether I needed assistance. The lighting is terrible and at a better staffed location, you could get help with ensuring a color match. Unfortunately, this location isn't the store for that, so I decided to take my chances. I won't be back. I'd rather drive to a more welcoming and diverse location and try again. read more

Always clean, but since it's 2 days before Christmas not much to choose from as far as the men's cologne. I was able to get the new cologne by Johnny Dep which smelled great. I was able to use my 20%, the cashier reminded me of the app. I would recommend this store for all your beauty needs. read more

I felt comfortable trusting that she would give me what I wanted and I love my hair! She seemed knowledgeable, friendly, and really listened to what I wanted. Years ago, when this store first opened I highly avoided visiting it. I always felt unwelcomed and like the employees were unnecessarily watching me from a distance. Now, I do visit this location about once a month. They have hired new staff that are friendly and welcoming. They greet everyone at the door and do offer assistance. I always use my coupons on my phone with no problem. Also, I have one of their credit cards which offers me a lot of free product codes. Returns are hassle free, so I can confidently return products that I do not like without the cashiers rolling their eyes at me or asking 100 ridiculous questions. The only complaint is that this store needs to do a better job with restocking its shelves, especially for the NYC products. Also please put more testers out. The lipstick testers that are left are really dirty looking!!! read more

Being a professional stylist, this by far, is the nicest Ulta on the south side of Chicago. 2nd would be Orland Park. I average shopping at Ulta stores, 2 times/week. I'm a makeup artist. This location always has their products in stock, clean, and very nicely organized/displayed. The team workers are friendly, helpful,& professional. If they are out of something you really want, they will hunt it down for you or make great suggestions on finding something else similar to your needs. With Christmas time approaching, there are many gifts ideas& cute affordable gift sets for every budget. Definitely, worth the 30 minute ride to Tinley Park! read more

Anyway, this Ulta Beauty was similar to the other one I visited. It seemed well stocked, although it was out of the item that I wanted. It's not a deal breaker but I did make it work with the alternative they had. The customer service from one of the employees I encountered could have been little better and upbeat but it wasn't super bad. I will definitely visit this location when I am in the area. read more

This review will start positive and slowly decline just like my expectations of professionalism and getting what I paid for. I made the appointment just shopping with a friend and she pointed out there is 15% off discount with first service. So I never read large signs in front of me, so good looking out. I was excited for my appointment, spoke to a stylist and was quoted a price and everything was set. Now for the steady decline...I was there from 4:30pm-9:30pm. I was asked to pay before my service was completed because it was taking so long. Then they couldn't give me the 15% they failed to put on my bill because they closed the register. So I had to come back the following day. When the foils came off, I heard one of the other stylists say "it's really white." Maybe she didn't think I heard her or maybe she didn't care, just like she would announce that she was going to smoke a "cancer stick" repeatedly. Man smokers get a lot of breaks outside, something to think about. She also mentioned how she thought gluten intolerance was a trend...interesting...When I asked what toner and developer they used on me she said they can only give the number not the formula! I doubt anyone is concocting their own batch "Breaking Bad" style. Long story short... If you need a quick blow dry and style, that is not permanent, hit them up! They got you! If you want anything that is specific to your wants, desires, preferences, etc. you'll leave having to go across the way to Sally's and have them hook you up with some color corrector. They get a 2 star because they did honor the 15% refund, though it had to pass through two managers and then a very nervous front desk lady. There were three friendly, helpful, enthusiastic representatives who USED to work here. Gee, I wonder why they left?!?! Prolly because all of the remaining staff were of the exact opposite temperment. I really don't like going here and am going to stop. No greeting when you enter, no smiles, no hellos, no offer of help! I mean anyone can unlock a door, turn on an open sign and ring up perfume. I walked into the Tinley Park,Il. ULTA store on Tuesday just to ask about eyebrow tinting and the girl..SUZ..working the area was about to go on break between appts ,but instead told me to sit in her chair and instead of taking her break ;she tinted my eyebrows for me between appts !! I just loved her ,she was so friendly and down to earth ! I could have talked to her for hours ,but her next appt showed as soon as she was done. She also helped and explained a few other products for me that I desperately needed. I appreciated everything she did for me..cant wait to go back for more of her facial help ! I am a huge fan of this specific Ulta for a few reasons. It is rarely crowded and the employees are very helpful. When they first opened, they did not have as many helpful and knowledgeable employees. In the last 2-3 years, they have added quite a few amazing employees at this location. I love coming to this one as a result. I often come here for the Benefit Brow Bar. There is not a wait here and the girls are very good. I have naturally thick, luscious manbrows. They always make me look feminine without looking like a circus no-brow freak. I like these girls a lot. It saddens me that I am no longer working near this Ulta. I guess I am going to have to check out the one in Downers now. read more

Line was so long and cashier got testy with me I said I that didn't want to sign up for a reward card. Nothing against her because the last Ulta I went to the same thing happened. I rarely shop at Ulta. Then is asked about the return policy and the cashier said you have to have a rewards number. The service here is great. Michael, who I assume to be the store manager because he's always there and is often helping other employees with issues, is incredibly friendly and helpful. I also get great recommendations from other employees on products, am always asked if I need help when I come in, and the store has great promotional events and sales. I really enjoy coming here. The only thing that would make it better is even more brands (ie Morrocconoil, for one) but I'm quite sure that's not in the store's control, but corporate. read more

OK, I'm glad I was not the only one who had a bad experience at this store. I was there yesterday. I purchased a few items that were marked buy one, get one free. I get to the register and you can tell the girls are a little snarky. When I let the cashier know the items were BOGO free, she looked at me with that deer in the headlights look, so I asked her to follow me so I could show her. You think I was asking her to walk a mile. Seriously, these women need to get off their high horses and come back to reality. They are there to serve the customer and to be helpful. This review applies pretty much to any location I've been to (Lake View, State St in Chicago) as well as here. My experience always ends up as follows: 1. Walk past copious amounts of trial drug-store quality products to the shampoo section. Locate the Pureology shampoo, conditioner, and styling products I can consistently find here and no where else. Approached and decline offer for help. I got this. I get this stuff every time. 2. Locate the Tarte display. Find my mascara, don't find my eyeliner which is always out, maybe try a color eyeliner I probably won't be able to wear to work, get asked every 30 seconds while at the display if I need help (I don't), check out what Tarte's seasonal offerings are. Maybe get something new. 3. Walk past the perfume section to confirm several scents for Paris Hilton, Jennifer Lopez, Justin Bieber(!), none for Anna Sui. 4. Head to the general cleanser area, passing several workers chatting with each other in the make up section. Don't locate any face scrubs with all-natural ingredients. Maybe pick up a spot treatment or oil free moisturizer for my husband. 5. Head to the checkout, passing 2 or three people restocking- makeup brushes or drugstore quality nail polish. 6. Wait in line maybe 30 minutes to be checked out. Two cashiers, both insist on locating rewards program accounts (via multiple methods) or setting them up for every customer. This puts the wait time, per person, at about 10 minutes each. That's 3 people ahead of me if you are doing the math. My entire trip is 40 minutes long. 10 of them are actually buying actions by me. If Amazon consistently provided my high-end products (and eventually they will) I'll never set foot in an Ulta again. The staff just really add no value and waste my time while I only find what I want about 50-60% of the time. If my make up, cleansers, and perfume were there as well, I'd suffer through the service frustrations and spend more. read more

The people that work here need to be a lot friendlier. I was just there yesterday, and had some questions. The girl at the register seemed to be having a bad day and was not friendly or helpful at all. Did not greet me, snippy one word answers. But then greeted someone else. In this economy you would think they could hire someone who is friendly to the customers. Highly disappointed, my sister and I were in the store for about 45 minutes and not one person came up to see how we were doing, I was looking for a foundation and needed help. Ended up having to go search for help. The lady who helped was nice but was clearly too busy and left me with a half face of makeup. I had better help at other locations. I love getting my eyebrows done here and I've been working with one brow lady in particular to get my brows fuller after a year of threading. She's great! The rest of the staff is...eh. If I go during the week, I can barely get any help from anyone but on Saturdays, there is an overflow of employees and they stand around and talk to eachother. To get help, I had to reluctantly interrupt a conversation. I was looking for a makeup brush and as I was describing it, the lady kept cutting me off and trying to finish my sentences. Finally, she directed me to the right brush and after I thanked her and walked away, I glanced behind me and she was looking at me while whispering to another employee, needless to say I felt like she was talking about me. The girls at the register are always unfriendly. Once, at checkout, I was told that I qualified for 2 free issues of both Allure and Glamour so I said GREAT! What she didn't tell me was that I was being signed up for full subscribtions and I'd soon be charged unless I cancelled. Sigh. There was 1 cashier and a line a third of the way down the edge of the store. There were plenty of employees milling about, pushing product and catching up on chit chat. This is not OK. Store management is awful. Went in today with my wife to exchange perfume I had purchased for her from the website. Simple exchange of VW princess for VW pink princess. Manager accused my wife of stealing a bottle of perfume when wife put her CELL PHONE into her pocket. This was the manager on duty. We have been going there for a few years now and are mostly satisfied. We are always greeted when we come into the store and I love the aroma as we walk in. Most employees are quite helpful although a few seem a little standoffish. Don't know their story. One big displeasure is that there seems to be a revolving door of employees in the salon.
