Rude, snotty customer service staff here. Just interested in selling to the customers that walk up to the counter ready to pay. No sales skills at all, and they won't bother to try and help you find what you're looking for. I heard several derogatory remarks against customers while shopping, so I just put the items on the counter and walked out. They can put them back, because it may help them to know their merchandise better. No trained management here that cares about their staffing issues. They seem to just look the other way. read more

if I could give a lower rating I would but I cannot. I'm absolutely stunned with the way I was treated, going in there was no welcome and no assocaites around which is understandable with the big rush for the holidays. but when trying to ask for help I went up to a worker (lilyana) she was giving me dirty looks and pointing and even tried takin a picture of me from the looks of it. I was really confused and when I had gone up to ask if there was any reccomendatiins in a product she said "I wouldn't wanna help YOU find anything" and was muttering cusses under her breath. she than said I was friends with a horrible person but I don't know where I've even met her I asked to speak with a manager and she told me to "f**k off and get out her store" I was so in shock I just set my stuff down and left I'm not sure I've even met her before other then she was close to my age so maybe she went to my school. I'm disappointed because at the Grandville location I've never been treated like that and for her to say that. I was so mad and upset at the same time I have never felt more disrespected and dehumanized I mean some of the stuff she was saying was horrible and she had said some more things but I won't even go there. Got my first ever eyebrow wax done by Julia and it was an amazing experience. She was super helpful with my brow questions and made me feel very comfortable. Every time I come to this location (isn't often) there are some employees that don't like customers. I asked a question and the new employee didn't know, so she asked on of the other employees. I don't know if this older lady with thin grey hair was a manager or supervisor but she has a whole attitude. On the app when a product was only on sale on the app it'll say "online only" well this year on the 21 days of beauty sale it says "app exclusive" meaning it has to be purchased on the app but can be picked up. She didn't explain that to me. She said it's online only. So I ordered the mascara online at 10:11am it takes 2 hours for the order to be picked and processed but when I went back into the store at 1:30p my products still weren't picked or processed. Everyone just talking and laughing and not doing their job. Smh! The girl who did take care of me was the sweetest female and her customer service was great. This locations employees needs to be retrained and have some customer service classes. Do better! read more

I did a pickup order for 2 items: a toner and the supergoop unseen sunscreen LARGE size that cost $36. I picked up my order and got all the way home only to realize they charged me $36 for a SAMPLE size that costs $7. I went right back and they attempted to give me another product multiple times that was not equivalent. After I told them it still wasn't the right item they had me wait 20 minutes for them to refund it. They inconvenienced me, wasted my time, and didn't even display good customer service by offering a coupon or anything. I was given a halfhearted "yeah, we're sorry about that". Will NEVER go back to this Ulta location. read more

I just spent 10 mins in this store without being helped at all. Even talked to or a measly welcome to the store. I stood at the front and the front desk girl told me where to get in line and I told her I needed assistance and that no one even wanted to talk to me. To which her eyes widened and she reached for her ear piece to call someone. I went back to the area I was in and waited and still was not assisted. I buy most of my "prestige" brand makeup here and will now go to Sephora or another Ulta location because the staff here BLOWS. I often go without makeup on and peruse on my own. Even when the store isn't busy the people who work there don't ask if you need help. If they DO pay attention to you, it's to hover in the aisle "straightening" product to make sure you're not stealing. I worked retail in college, I know that move ;) Last weekend I was looking for new foundation and asked for a small sample to try out as I have sensitive, reactive skin. A nice employee kindly gave me a couple in Clinique sample containers. I've done this several times in the past before buying product without any pushback. Today I came back for one of the foundations and several prestige items I was ready to purchase. I asked for a sample to which an employee said they don't give samples. The eff you don't. Then her crabby coworker pulls out her patronizing attitude to tell me they don't have sample containers and would have to borrow from Clinique counter... ok? So? "Well we have to pay for those containers" WHAT, .50 cents? Are you kidding me?! I'd gladly cover that if it's such a big deal, but I could tell she wanted to argue. "If it's this big of a deal I don't have to have one" "Great thanks". No apology or professional decorum whatsoever. Beyond that, there are often reps in the store who will only recommend their brands if you ask for advice. I've worked several years in a professional, physician directed skincare practice and very few staff here have any clue about the products. To the few nice employees - I hope you can find a job somewhere where your coworkers aren't unhappy jerks. Stay home and order products online or go to Sephora. read more

I don't come in here often but when I do it's always for a specific product, the staff are always very friendly and helpful, and never pressure me into buying products I don't need. I asked to be fitted for foundation and the woman helped me find the perfect shade and formula for my skin type, she also gave me a complimentary bottle of moisturizer. If there was a negative star review, I would give it. This store is horrendous. They only have 23 people working there, maybe they should employ more people? There were only 5 customers in there on a Saturday rainy afternoon. I went in with my two 10 year old daughters, and they hovered over us and followed us around the whole store. I did this on purpose just to make sure. One lady with silver hair was legit staring at us while looking at fragrance. I looked up and stared back at her until she walked away. Clearly the cameras they have in there, just aren't enough to catch people stealing. It's no wonder so many people dumpster dive here. The only product I buy from Ulta is their house brand eyebrow pencil that costs $10. I usually buy 4 at a time (if it's even in stock, usually they're out for weeks) to avoid stepping back in the store for months. Employees congregate at the entrance and are not helpful. They send an associate over to watch if you're stealing. Very rude with an uneasy feeling. You need to address this at your Alpine location. If you're shrink is high, take better action than just following a paying customer around the store! read more

Really poor management, went in to pick up a few items and make a quick trip. I got in line and only one cashier was available out of the 5 employees I had seen throughout the store. I waited in line for 10 minutes while the cashier explained the reward points and the store credit card to a woman while four other customers waited in line. The manager instead of helping or sending someone else to help cashier stood nearby talking with another employee. This Ulta store is horrible! I have been shopping at ULTA for a couple years, normally in Kalamazoo and when moving to GR I started shopping here. NOT THE SAME! I went in the other day and bought a lots of stuff, when I got home I realized I never received one of my free items. I know it seems trivial, but I went back to get it. Well apparently they had sold out of it, and instead of informing customers they put up a little sign that says it's out. My conversation with the manager: Me: I'm frustrated that I came all the way back to the store because the cashier never told me it was out! Manager: Oh that's okay! We don't know what you see or read (referring to the small inconspicuous sign stashed behind some holiday gifts)! It is our policy to not tell customers we are out unless they ask. :) I think its a ludicrous policy. I don't care about the free item so much as their inability to voice the fact that they are out of a product, this for the fact that you don't get home and have to go all the way back to be told you were suppose to see a dinky sign. Thanks Ulta, I guess I'll be shopping online now because the website is not affiliate with the stores! Furthermore, I got gel nail polish done there -- I've had it before so I know it can last for at least 3 weeks without chipping -- this one lasted two days. My normal nail polish lasts the same amount. But I guess when the nail tech does your nails in 15 minutes, you have to know somethings up! read more

Horrible experience, there was only one girl working the entire floor. I had to get her attention and she had no idea what product I was referring to, I brought it up on my I phone and proceeded to show her and her response was that she has "never seen that product before and it must be new" and then proceeded to walk away. I called a different Ulta and they did indeed have the product and knew right away what product I was referring to. I will definelty be driving out of my way next time to go to an Ulta where they knew their products and offer more assistance. read more

Ever time I have come to this or any other ulta the staff there is less than helpful. Most of the employees, especially the managers are always rude. I was looking for a specific product and it said online that they had them in stock..so I asked one the employees to help me find it, they had to call a manger over and the manager argued with me about how they don't have them. I told her that it said you had them online, so they finally pulled out their inventory gun.. They had 15 of them. Not to mention if you get a free gift or sample with your purchase, good luck ever getting it. They never give them to you or even ask you if you want to use your ulta reward points. read more

Did not have a pleasant experience. I was looking for new foundation, but had no idea what brand or shade to buy. I could've used some help obviously. Instead of asking if I needed any assistance, all of the workers lurked around me to make sure I was not stealing anything. They asked other customers if they needed anything, but overlooked me. I then ventured over to the more expensive makeup, where I had no clue what to buy. However, if someone would've offered to help, I would've purchased my makeup there instead of elsewhere. Also, if you buy something and have an allergic reaction to it, just take it back and they will refund your money...amazing!!! The customer service is the best. Thank God! I'm not the only one who gets bad service here, I thought maybe it was my imagination. Today I came into the story looking the line L.A. Girl. It says that ulta has it, but unfortunately they don't carry in this store just online at the moment. The first girl was nice when I asked her about it, no problem. The girl at the makeup counter put in her two cents in a snide voice talking about it's nothing special. I said yeah I know, but I wanted it because it's super pigmented and it has such a huge range of color which is plus for me cause I'm dark skinned. The entire time she talked you could tell she was slightly mocking me, her lip was sneered as she heard my explanation to wanting it and you could tell she was trying to hurry me along no longer interested cause I wasn't gonna buy anything since they didn't have what I wanted. This is not a first time thing... I have been in this store where I have repeatedly been watched, and met with subpar service. Most of the time I would go in, and buy something and you could totally feel the judgement. ( I work nights so I usually go in after shift in my ratty clothes) Needless to say this won't ever be my store again.. I'm done. read more

I'm appalled at my experience at ulta. The customer service was horrible.We weren't greeted when we walked in, and no one ever asked if we needed help. Then the entire time someone was watching us from a distance. Then later made a sly comment to my friend about her makeup, and even accused her of lying. I couldn't enjoy my time there, I felt pressured to leave. We went in to purchase items, then decided not to buy them because of how rude, stuck up, and unprofessional the staff was. Don't shop here. With $152 worth of products rung up, credit card ready, and one even exchange for a $5 hair comb -brunette for blond- (no receipt) they tried to charge me $4.30 for the exchange. "We have to charge the lowest price ever offered on that comb, $.69." But It's still for sale for $5 - I just grabbed one to replace the other.?! No sale. So mad I left all the product there. Worst experiences ever.... went to have my hair lightened and the only way the master stylest could fix my uneven color is for me to go dark!!. Way too expensive for what you get! Also very unprofessional the master stylest and coworkers were talking bad about a lady that just left the salon and saying how she can't come back because she complained too much..... I think this salon is a joke next time I'll give my money to the girls at tanaz.... at least I'll have what I want regardless of how difficult and timely it might take...... save yourself the money and don't go there... read more

I thought Ulta would be a good place to get my hair done because they've seemed very professional in every other aspect of their store. However my experience at the salon did not follow that trend. I made my appointment using their online booking system and when I arrived they told me that my stylist had actually gone home early so I would have to use a more expensive one. I told the woman that I wanted a trim and some thinning because my hair is very long and thick (about 16 inches). She made it seem like she knew what she was doing but then had me shampooed and cut/thinned within 15 minutes. Never in my life have I had that little attention paid to my hair cut. Especially since this service was $50 + tip. After she chopped off my hair, she stuck me under a hair dryer and left me there for the remaining 45 minutes of my appointment time. Reminder that the service that I requested (and paid for) was a cut and style. No styling was done and I was sent out with frizzy messy hair. I gave it 2 stars because my hair doesn't look bad, per se, it just wasn't at all what I asked for and I felt like I was a major inconvenience to them despite being one of two customers in at the time while they had 5+ people working.
