The customer service sucks, there rude, no more free gifts, I hate it, just order online!

I will start this off by saying, this is by no fault of the store employees, it is the ridiculous process of trying to shop during this insanity, as if being confined is not difficult enough, let's make it completely mind boggling. So, I am all about healthy curb side pick up, never let it be said I do not adhere to the guidelines set forth by the Surgeon General and all of that, not to mention I am Immune Compromised, therefore not going to play games with my life. I am a little too old to "play chicken" with this disease. HOWEVER!!!! The bone of contention I have is this: I want to give local business my money, I wanted 1 thing, seriously, but I was willing to buy 3 extra things with that 1 thing, just to make the order worthwhile. Come to find out.... Yeah it is not available online and is ONLY available "In Store" well my pretties; our stores happen to be working odd hours and we are NOT allowed in!! Being what I consider a "reasonable person" I write to customer affairs, perhaps they will ship the item to the store and place it in my order? Yeah "so sorry we cannot do that but call the store to see if they have it in stock and you can buy it there." Well I WOULD but they are not letting anyone INSIDE!!!! Seriously?! So, they want an employee of Ulta to be my personal shopper, as if they have nothing better to do?? I was indeed "Facepalming" and I am left frustrated. I DID price the item on another couple sites and yes I can get it however it is $20 more...That does NOT include shipping. So I've been to this location several times. They always greet you when you walk in and tend to leave you alone while you shop. Well this day I wasn't looking for anything particular. I ran across a new foundation that they just received so I asked an associate about the product. She didn't know a lot just yet but she was willing to sit me down and find my perfect shade. We went through about four or five shades before finally finding the perfect one. I was amazed with their variety of shades for dark skinned women I was tempted to buy but at time I didn't need a foundation. There store is always clean and well stocked. Everyone knows that Ulta beauty and Sephora are the main places to go when you are looking for specialty makeup so it should be no surprise that I frequent both places. This review is for my very first trip to the Ulta located in my new neighborhood. I needed some things and went to this location. Parking is not that bad for Ulta because it is situated on an end cap of the shopping strip so most people who park there are going to Ulta and these are not day long trips. With a beauty store you go in get what you need and then are out in 15-20 minutes in most cases. I was greeted upon entry and several people asked if I needed any assistance. I did because I was looking for something specific, which unfortunately they did not have. The sales rep that was working with me was very patient as I described what I was looking for and was suggestive with alternative products but not overbearing. I ended up taking two of her suggestions and was ever so pleased that I did. I noticed the staff was very diverse which makes a difference when you are a minority shopping for hair and skincare products. You need someone who understands that there are certain products made for minorities and which products are actually popular with said population and why. I am so satisfied with my products (Smashbox Always Sharp Waterproof Eye liner and lip hydrating cream) that I plan to go back and buy them as gifts for my family. read more

I had a diamond reward for 25 off a service so I scheduled a treatment and it was mentioned it was a few bucks more for a dusting. I said it's truly a dusting because I don't need a cut or to notice. She said yes no one will know you got your hair cut! She combed all of my hair loosely over my head like nothing I have experienced or seen but I thought just a dusting of ends no biggie. Nor did I see the back while I was there! This went from a dusting to the worst hair cut of my life. She just cut on my longest layers so I lost once he's everyone is asking if I got my hair cut, which never happens even after a and inch or two. Then the right side is a couple inches longer than the left. Has nothing to do with my part I have tried everything and because I not have layers on top that were combed over my head that are longer than the bottom is it choppy and will not lay right no matter what. I tried waves below because straight and people will laugh at me. We are talking forever growing gone in a dusting. I am so frustrated because it has to be cut again so I will go from long to shoulder hair which takes a long time to grow back. I have yet to hear from the store. I had one of the most humiliating experiences of my life at this store. I'm from almost an hour and a half away and only get into town maybe twice a year. I spend on average about $350 on each visit. I don't need any assistance and I'm a very friendly person. I'm also transgender. You would not know this unless I told you but I'm living my truth and could care less who knows what. Consistently terrible customer service. They are more concerned with their own personal conversations rather than assisting customers. They can also work on cleanliness of the store. Ulta is convenient for almost any cosmetic need. I have shopped Ulta in Gastonia for several years, and the service has always ever been average. However, I would say that service is less than average currently. Last week, I went into the store with an agenda. I use Tarte Cosmetics and knew exactly what I needed. Two ladies working for Estée Lauder approached me; however, I believe only one was actually an employee as she wore an Estée Lauder's smock. I'm pretty sure the other lady was an Estée Lauder regional rep. She was probably in her 60s, but she was so unprofessional and wore leggings and a t-shirt. I actually thought she was a customer at first, until she was asking me questions about what I was looking for and trying to coerce me into buying Estée Lauder cosmetics. The rep was trying to act nice but was so very rude. Both ladies hung around me while I was looking for my Tarte Cosmetics products. She was continually talking to the Estée Lauder employee about "how Tarte foundation dries out the skin" and "how older women started using Tarte because their teenage daughters were using it." She continually talked down about Tarte. I know that she was trying to put doubt in my mind about the brand so that I would come to Estée Lauder. I looked at the woman and asked, "Does my face look dry to you?" I believe she was shocked and she couldn't answer at first. Then she replied, "No." Then I said, "My teenage girls introduced me to Tarte years ago, and I just love the brand." She finally shut up with her negativity about it. I couldn't wait to get out of that store, and I will most likely order from Tarte directly from now on. I've had similar experiences in the past at this Ulta location with Lancôme employees, but it was never quite as bad as with Estée Lauder. Shopping at Ulta should be a fun experience! This was my first time going into an Ulta store and I loved it! Everything was organized in it's specific station that it was supposed to be in and they literately had everything you needed for hair, makeup, skincare, and nails! The staff members were so amazing too! I told one of the staff members that I was looking for a specific facial spray that was sold out and she quickly and without any hesitations looked for one in the back! She actually found it and I was so happy! The place however, is very popular and has lots of people coming in and out! No worries though, there are plenty of items in Ulta! read more

I have attempted to return an item I purchased last week, with the receipt, for an exchange, and the manager refused to honor the company's return policy listed on the receipt, corporate website, etc, unless I provide my phone number (which I refuse to provide just to purchase or return goods because I get enough spam calls already). I subsequently spoke to corporate customer service who indicated this behavior by the store is not consistent with policy, but now I'm in the vast virtual customer service maze of trying to get my money back simply because the store won't honor its own policies and let me exchange something I bought 7 days ago with a receipt in hand! This is kind of absurd. Won't be shopping here again, have never had this problem with Sephora. read more

Words can not express how much I love this store!! I have my favorite employee who I don't know her name but I know her face, and I will find out, and update my review b/c she is the bees knees! Anyways, product selection is amazing, yet standard to almost any Ulta I have been in. They carry hair, skin, and nail products, as well as, thermal tools. The makeup is normally all I purchase from here. I am a cosmetologist so I get my own deals on different products. The staff is always helpful, and I've gotten my brows done here in a pinch by LA (no longer there) but she did a good job. The salon, I have never been to, but I follow one of the girls who works there on IG, her name is Kari & she does really gorgeous work. I've actually seen her works of art walk out of & they all seem super happy, and look fabulous. I spend a lot of time here so you see things!! There is also an older elegant looking woman who has put out some gorgeous work while I've been there. All in all, this is one of my favorite places in Gastonia to shop. It is my favorite place to shop for makeup. Do yourself a service, and sign up for the beauty rewards program! I get free coupons for amazing products via email all the time, plus you get birthday gifts!! This year is was a can of Chi hairspray. read more

The staff here is so rude! They act like you are there to steal anything and everything! I was carrying around an eyeshadow palette while I looked for other products and one girl working there took it away from me and said she would have it at the front counter waiting for me. As soon as I picked up a lip gloss tester another girl came over and stood right beside me while I swatched it on my hand. I would have spent so much more money there if they weren't so rude and paranoid someone was going to steal. I work in retail and that behavior would never fly anywhere else! I went in to get a wash and blow out. Nellie was my hair stylist. She is very kind but it felt like it was her first blowout. She got water all over my face. Kept brushing over my ears. Hit my in the head twice with the dryer. Did a blow out with a flat brush and didn't section off my hair or even clip it she only pushed it to hang in front of my face. Straightened my hair and I could heart ends snapping!! Again very kind but may need to coached on how to be gentle or even just to be aware of the client. read more

Lauren made my first Benefit brow bar experience an amazing one. I'll be back for many future appointments. The reason I haven't made it to the brow bar yet is they are always so booked and I never know my schedule. I walked in to buy foundation, asked when her next appointment was and she told me she'd fit me in right after her current client. Very disappointed in this location. Shelves in Butter area were dusty. I had just rec'd plat (gift w/purch) cpn the day before, yet they had none at checkout. This was mid-week, maybe Thurs. I asked assoc if she could offer something else similar. No. She didn't say that it had been such a popular freebie.. that they had given them all out. I like the place because it's convenient. I usually shop at Sephora. The one thing I hate about this place is that they NEVER have anything in stock or the shelves need cleaning. This review is regarding the salon. I've gone three times now, twice for haircuts and once for gel nail color and everything has been just "meh." Every time I go in there is always only one stylist working who is responsible for the whole salon, so while she's trying to cut my hair, she's answering the phone and helping customers. I've had two different stylists and neither of them seem to want to keep a conversation going so with nothing else going on in the salon it's a pretty awkward silence. My haircuts have been just fine, but for the price I guess I'm just expecting something more. It is, after all, a salon, not just mom and pop's hair shop. The stylists make no recommendations or discuss the condition of my hair or anything. They just ask what type of cut I want and go to work. As for the "nail service" I only went because it was at a discount. I won't be doing that again. I was expecting a manicure but there is a reason they call this a "gel color service." No attention was paid to my skin or cuticles. I had gel color that needed to be removed and the acetone was taking some time to work so the girl used a metal tool to really scrape at my nails, obviously damaging them to get the color off. I was concerned from the beginning that the girl who was doing my nails was the same girl who cut my hair two months prior. I guess I expected a nail technician when I made my nail appointment, not just a a hairdresser who had been taught to do nails. More awkward silence coupled with the fact that the nail area is just a table in a back room where all the hair dryers and sinks are. You stare at the wall the whole time and she had to keep going out front to check for customers since she was the only one there. She asked me what color I wanted and pulled out several bottles from a drawer based on what I said. There was no color wheel to choose from, just the label on the bottle (keeping in mind all these bottles are opaque so you can't see the actual polish.) I chose one that seemed to have some shimmer and she got to work. As she put the base coat on I could see areas on my nail that weren't smooth because of the scraping she did but she either didn't notice or wasn't concerned. The color coat went on very thin and she only ended up doing two coats so it doesn't really look like what's on the label and I feel like I can almost see thru it. At this point though, I could see the quality I was getting and figured it looked good enough if that meant this appointment would be done sooner. She carried the color over the tips of my nails which I know is a part of what makes the gel color stay so well, but she left globs of it under my nails leaving the edges feeling uneven. The skin under my thumb nail even got painted. The same goes for the top coat leaving a layer of clear polish on my skin on many of my fingers. Examining my nails after she was finished it was obvious where she wasn't very accurate in painting the whole nail (lots of obvious gaps on the sides and toward the nail bed.) To be honest, the experience was underwhelming and the results were no better than if I had my mom paint my nails. They aren't terrible, just sub-par to going to an actual nail salon. I look forward to seeing how long they last in comparison too. Getting my nails done was cheaper at Ulta but I'd rather pay more, get a full manicure and have someone more experienced do my nails, not just a hairdresser. read more

Ulta has always been my "go to" place for cosmetics, I made the mistake of stopping by the salon to ask them to remove some gel polish. It took them two hours to get it off. I even asked her to stop and that I would have the rest removed later. "No", they wanted to finish. There were only two people working that day and the girl removing my gel had never done it before. Long story short - I have lost 4 fingernails to a bacteria they so kindly gave me. I contacted the corporate office and they were so apologetic and told me to see the GM at the store. I did that and I could tell she wanted to help me about as much as a bout of the flu. She filled out an incident report and assured me they would find out what happened. Never heard another word, It's been almost two months. I am contemplating legal action at this point. My nails look absolutely horrific and I have always taken such good care of them. If you live in Gastonia, NC STAY AWAY!! ...just sayin' Horrible management. read more
