This is my go-to Ulta and I have never had a bad experience here. While there are other skin care, hair care, and makeup shops I enjoy, I love Ulta for it's convenience and ease of access (no bustling mall to deal with or department store to weave through, their stores are stand alone). They have ample stock and a variety of product lines to choose from, from inexpensive brands (which it turns out is my preference for mascara) to higher quality/priced products (which it turns out is my preference for hair and skin care). They also have a variety of vegan/cruelty free skin care as well as makeup, which I appreciate. They have a great selection of flat irons, hair dryers, and curling irons as well. I recently purchase a Chi flat iron and one of the sides ceased working after about a month of use. I brought it back and given I'd owned it for less than 6 weeks, they happily took it back for full price and directed me to a better iron (which I've been using and enjoying and realized it's the same one my stylist uses as well). The service is always lovely but no overbearing. And, their prices are about average for the brands they carry. Get to it! read more

I made a make-up appointment online 2 months prior to the date and even received a reminder email from Ulta a few days before. When I arrived did my 9:30 appointment the doors were locked and the sign said the store did not open until 10. I tried calling the store but no one answered so I waited until 10. Then the staff said there was no record of my appointment. I showed the screen shot and email but both makeup artists were booked for the day. I did ask if they could at least do lashes for me which one agreed to. She was very nice but I was disappointed as I obviously wanted my makeup done for a reason and surprised I was charged for the service. I tend to go to this Ulta location quite a bit since it's close to work. I think this store is pretty high traffic and is always busy when I go. This store always seems to be understaffed. I can never get anyone to help me pick out makeup or if there is someone, there is a line of 3-5 people deep waiting. The check out usually only has 1-2 people working the registers, so again long line to check out. Please staff your store better!!! read more

Went to get my hair highlighted, and it was a MASSIVE fail. I do not recommend this place to anyone. My hair is still dark on top, light on the bottom. Both my mom and my other half agreed that it did NOT look like anything had been done. You can still tell where the dark goes to light. No blending whatsoever. Guess how much? $190 plus tip. To look the same. When I called to speak with a manager, they set me up with the same stylist AGAIN. I called back about 20 minutes later and asked if I could just have my money back. She said no, they have to try to fix it first. So I have another appt. Hopefully someone can fix this hot mess, because I am not happy. I won't be going back. Kicker- she was running super late, and charged me $45 to trim the ends. And another $40 for toner. And my haircut is nothing spectacular. It looks like sh*t actually. Bad hair cut. Ulta is the mecca of beauty & hair care products. Unlike the competitors, they sell both drugstore (CVS/Walmart) and prestige makeup and salon brands and are able to do so because they have a small salon area in the back. If you are looking for a hard-to-find beauty product, chances are you will find it - or something similar - here. I recommend checking out the clearance items toward the back. I have found some amazing deals! Especially after the holidaies when they put unsold holiday gift sets on clearance. Don't assume that the prices for the prestige makeup and salon products are discounted (that's what I was told prior to my first visit). The allure of Ulta is that it is a one-stop shop, and they have some unique lines not commonly found elsewhere. I highly recommend signing up for their frequent shopper card. It's free! You receive their sale/special catalogue in the mail, which always has a coupon, and you earn $ off future purchase through their point system. I feel like they do need more Ulta sales associates on the floor, for those times when customers need assistance looking for something specific. If I have the time, I find myself helping others... it's all those years in retail and my love of health&beauty products! Also, if you go on the weekend it is usually pretty busy and highly sought-after new products (such as OPI nail polishes) are usually out of stock. I feel like they need to either process shipment faster or try to regulate items that put out so there are not empty displays. Multiple empty displays always make me feel like a place has been raided. To get the most out of your shopping experience, I would visit the store during the week and give yourself a good hour to look around. The employees did not greet me when I came in and just stared at me. I came in to get a haircut and one of the guys that was working there interrupted us just to ask if she was available later for a trim. She literally had to go to her computer and checked if she had time later. Than he had the nerves to tell her, oh nvm you're busy. It was quite rude and disrespectful. The hairstylist burned my scalp while curling my hair and while cutting, she pressed so hard on my shoulders to get the length matched. Overall, she was nice but not coming back. read more

I had an updo scheduled as part of a bridal party. My appointment was with stylist and salon manager, Liz. She was 20 minutes late to start on my hair, despite being on time. She was working on someone going to homecoming. Once she started working on my hair, I had to keep asking for corrections, like asking to smooth out bumps... She also melted a bobby pin container with the curling iron. The updo was falling out on the drive to the mother of the bride's house, so the other bridesmaids had to fix it. $66 to have the low side-bun fall out. I could forgive all of this, however: SHE. BURNED. MY. HAIR. I repeat. BURNED. I couldn't smell it at the time due to all of the hairspray and product, but she actually damaged and burned my hair, which was past my shoulders in length. I do not dye my hair, rarely blow dry it and take extremely good care of it, getting regular trims etc. SHE BURNED IT. I didn't realize the damage until I washed my hair the following day. It was a long wedding day, so I went right to bed after taking all the pins out and throwing it in a bun. I thought it was crunchy from hair stray. NOPE.) As soon as I got it wet, it smelled like burnt hair, and did for the following weeks every time I went to condition treat it. My regular stylist gave me different conditioning treatments and I did coconut oil heat treatments. My hair was still fried and breaking off. I just had to have it cut into a pixie cut. I went from past shoulder length hair to a pixie cut. The general manager at Ulta refunded me the cost of the updo, and was very apologetic, but I'm still heartbroken. I loved my hair. Liz the salon manager should not be touching people's hair. DO NOT GO TO HER. read more

Wow where do I start? Ok, every time I've been in here, I've had poor service. I've been in here after work (mind you, I work at a hospital so I wear scrubs) and also in regular clothes. Doesn't matter--apparently since I don't look like a model, I am ignored. How rude!! I was there a few days ago and the service was ok but the past few times were bad. The most awful experience I had was when I was looking for a particular OPI nail polish. I couldn't find anyone to help me so I went up to the cash register to ask. The cashier, who looked like a plus-size Cleopatra (sorry, I know I'm not perfect, but this is the only way I can think of right now to describe her), told me the particular nail polish I was looking for was sold out but that I could "go across the street to Sally Beauty Supply" to purchase it. What?!? Are you serious?!? Why would you push a competitor and not offer to purchase it online?!? I was thoroughly pissed. Of course, I went across the parking lot and Sally's didn't have it. The following day I filed a complaint with the store. I ended up getting a $25 gift card in the mail which was nice, but I believe the employee should have been reprimanded. read more

Quality beauty products are expensive; however, the keyword is quality. Ulta offers name brand cosmetics for reasonable prices. You have to take into account that most of the things you buy here are going to last. It's an investment. They also run deals fairly frequently. My friend and I came here to stock up. She is having a baby soon and won't be able to leave the house for awhile. I prefer to pay 5.6% tax instead of Chicagoland's 10+%. We came at the right time, because there was also another sale going on. She received double the shampoo and I got double the makeup. The cashier was nice enough to apply a coupon that I had forgotten at home to my new purchase. She also looked up my frequent buyer card and gave me a new one so I won't have to keep looking it up. We saved at least $60 and came out with two economy bottles of Biolage shampoo, two large bottles of the Biolage conditioner, two Prestige eyeliners, loose mineral blush and the promotional 69pc makeup kit and case for $90. They set me up well and I won't be back for at least a year. read more

I don't typically try to return items if they don't work out for me but really felt scammed on this item. ULTA is the place to go if you want a one-stop awesome beauty collection. They have tons of options for hair care, makeup, lotions, body wash, make up brushes, and best yet, their salon. I just went yesterday and they were so helpful, I just needed a new brush and hairspray, and I left with that and some new makeup and hair products. Makeup is awesome, I opted for something inexpensive since the holidays are coming up, and it's the Physician's Formula concealer and their nude eye pencils for smokey eye. WOW. I've never been one for the smokey eye but seriously, it was the easiest eyeliner set I've ever used (and I've used everything from Victoria's Secret to Bare minerals). You can't go wrong here, no matter what your budget. :) read more

The girl that did my hair did a great job...but the pricing is misleading. I was charged $65 for her to wash, dry and flat iron my hair. There was no curling involved, no special products, just a straight flat iron style. I get my hair done once a week in Texas where I live and I've never paid more than $45 for this service. When I asked them what the difference was between the service I got for $65 and the flat iron style for $30 was, no one could explain it. You should be able to justify your prices and explain what each service you provide entails. The manager offered to go ask for a second time but at that point I just wanted to get out of there. The stylist, Kim (I think) did an excellent job on my hair...I still tipped her over 20% for her work, but their pricing needs to be competitive and the services and correlating costs should be properly explained. read more

I love Ulta, they have a lot of items here that you really can't find other places. I usually come for the urban decay eyeshadow palettes and primer for myself. I also get hair supplies for my daughter here. The mizani leave in conditioner and Kera Care detangling mist are great products for my daughter's curly hair. As far as service, for me at checkout it's always pretty fast and pleasant. I usually don't need a lot of help with the products (I always get the same stuff), but the few times I have asked questions the associates have been helpful. read more

Let me start by saying I love love LOVE my hair. I have had it done by the salon manager at Ulta in Brookfield (Liz) several times now and I always leave very happy. I completely trust her opinions and suggestions. If i walk in knowing exactly what i want or only have a vague idea I walk out with great looking and great feeling hair. I had a big event this weekend so I book an appointment with Liz the day before to get my hair colored and cut. I did not have any idea what i wanted to do, but Liz asked the right questions and we figured it out together. It looks great and made my event that much better. This store has a wide variety of cosmetics, hair products and perfumes. It's handy. They finally have me in their computer system so I get my discount offers - finally! So I did save 20% on my entire order and picked up some Urban Decay, Ulta eyeshadows and Paul Mitchell products. The prices on typical stuff are not lower than Wal-mart, so if you only need a few things and Wal-mart carries them, then go there. Your next option is Sephora at Mayfair Mall, but that's just a bit more of a drive for me. Sephora seems to have even more choices in cosmetics. read more

I almost don't want to shop there because of it. My last visit was the worst, the cashier got very upset because I forgot to tell her I wanted to use my Reward points, normally, they just ask you. So after the sale I asked if she could re-ring with my rewards points because today was the last day I could use my bonus points. She pretty much told me no, and right in front of her manager! In general, I like to buy product online because you can usually find it much cheaper, but there are always those products that you must see in person before purchasing. For those purchases, Ulta is perfect. They have a huge selection that ranges all price points. Their staff is hit and miss. Some of them seem to know everything, some of them are completely clueless. The store is spacious so I feel like there is room to look around and you're not stepping on anyone's toes. They also have a rewards program and coupons so you can get a few dollars off whatever you end up buying. read more

Great selection of cosmetics, but I'll never return to this particular Ulta store again. I felt uncomfortable. I think out of the 8 or so employees there, one was considerate and kind. I'm handicapped, but I was able (good day-MS) to go shopping and drive. The women, except the one, treated me rudely. I did not appreciate it at all. I believe they gave Ulta a bad image. Last week was my first visit to ulta, and I must say it was a little overwhelming with the many product lines. I don't do a lot to my hair and had absolutely no idea what kind of products to get. Maddy and Gina from the salon were so helpful and wonderful! Maddy showed me several different hair care lines and explained what I should be using and why. She was very knowledgeable and patient with my many questions and now I love my new shampoo!
