I would like to recognize employee KELLY who works at the Dimond store. I came in the morning of May 18 looking for a particular brand of eye shadow. Unfortunately the product is being discontinued and there were few left on the shelf. Kelly's customer service was wonderful and she spent time looking in drawers and a back storage area just to make sure there were none of the colors I wanted. I went in to pick up a few things 2/17 and the sales lady was very nice. She talked me into signing up for a rewards program and let me know that my receipt would be emailed to me so I didn't keep the paper copy. I go back the next day to return something, and my rewards program was set up wrong, the receipt was not emailed to me, and the people at the counter made me feel like a thief for not having their receipt. Finally after 30 minutes of sitting at the register with them, they realize the account was set up wrong and was linked to some different number. In addition, they had 50% off sales signs up, but when I got to the register, I guess, even though the whole display was covered in 50% off signs it was only for one specific product in one specific color. A lot of false advertising. I will never return to the store. The employees made me feel like a thief when they're the ones that messed up setting up the account. I did not like the way they treated me or their attitude. This happened 2/18 around 7pm. I highly recommend driving across town and going to Sephora. read more

I was there on January 4th around 8pm. A line of very confused looking young ladies were the cash registers. I asked for help picking out a gift for my wife After listening to their gossip chatter for several minutes before they even recognized I was standing there. I got to hear that Kristen is the lead cashier and she is now making $20/hour. I also got to listen to Kristen's truck driver mouth drop some F bombs and complain about a crazy customer she took care of earlier. I'm disappointed in the complete lack of professionalism. I expected more considering the prices in the store. In addition, consider the flip side and a woman walked into an auto parts store, stood there unseen, unheard, and experienced the lack of professionalism and immaturity I did. I can't stand this place. But when in Alaska, you have to take what you can get. Their staff isn't helpful at all. Ignores you. When you ask for help, we get "huh?!" or "I'm off the clock. I went in this store with a $500 gift card and decided to take my time shopping. Several staff asked me if I needed help but I was fine at those moments. When I did need help I asked an adult manager for help and she said she would be right back after helping someone. I said no problem and I would wait where I was. She never came back and then I watched her walk past me and go up the register and start checking people out. This store always had long wait lines and when she saw me in line she just pretended she didn't see me. When I checked out right next to her she still didn't acknowledge her unprofessional behavior. Also the kid they had checking out did not know how to work the store coupons. I ended up not buying the item I had the question about. read more

Heaven forbid you play with fun hair colour at home and you accidentally walk past the colouring salon at the back of this Ulta. The "ladies" are CATTY and not afraid of loudly discussing your lack of skill with each other. It wasn't a lady who started this... I will come back in 6 months after a good employee turnover. Heading to Muldoon until then....and if you share employees, I think Sephora will be it. I'm glad there's an Ulta on the southside, but I still prefer the Tikahtnu location. This one doesn't seem to get new products as quickly as the other, and a more limited selection of products in some of the high end brands, particularly Anastasia Beverly Hills. Tikahtnu had the full line of products whereas this one only has brow products and maybe a few palettes now and then. I wish more testers were available. They put up a sign on the NYX display on the drugstore side of the store asking customers not to open new products to test. If they offered more testers for more products they most likely wouldn't have this issue. The employees are nice enough, but sometimes they ask you if need help so many times it feels like they're hovering over you until you buy something or leave. One time I had a guy ask me if I was finding everything okay 5 times over the course of about 10 minutes. Just let me shop and I'll ask for help if I need it, thanks. read more

The worst customer service situation I have been in was at Ulta Beauty Dimond in Anchorage, Alaska. As a simple customer that came in off the street and entered the storefront without any idea of what I was looking for or needed, I decided to check out the cologne aisle and see if I could find a new Versace scent to purchase and take home. While down the aisle there was a store manager several feet away from me that was stocking the shelves with a different product line. I picked up one of the colognes off the shelf to examine it and read the product description when the store manager physically snatched the product out of my hands. I was pretty upset and when I asked the manager why she felt comfortable taking something out of my hands she became more aggressive and said the product was not available to pick up, even though it was on the store shelves. So I immediately left the store and reported the incident to corporate and asked them to elaborate on the situation and to review the security video. The corporate representative was very apologetic for the situation, as examining products within the store was not against company policy. They said they would provide additional training to the employee but they refused to hold her accountable for her actions. There was much backpedaling when I asked for a copy of the video to show my attorney, which they refused to provide because they knew their employee committed simple battery on a customer unprovoked. read more

I am not at all happy with Ulta today. In fact on most days, they fall far short of my expectations. It's not lack of choice I am complaining about, but in comparison with Sephora, their customer service is terrible. I have never been made aware of how the points system in Ulta works, I just knew I had some. And not one of those cashiers ever explains how it works. So one time, I actually asked about it, and I'm still not certain I fully understand. It's not really clear on the receipt, and in order to get it, I'd probably have to scroll around the website and read stuff. And I don't want to. I don't feel that I should have to ask this sort of detail. I do not have to in Sephora. Sephora let's me know when I get to a certain points level, and asks me would I like to use my points or save them. In Ulta, they are THE most rude cashiers, they do not say please, or thank you. Common courtesy. Manners. Those are free, and should be drilled into retail staff religiously, because seriously, I cannot bear these girls. I am never going back in there. And smile? Nope, not gonna happen. It might crack their Liquid to Matte lipstick. Hello miss, but are your lips botoxed, cos they are sure not moving much? Tell you what, wipe some lipstick off, you might be able to smile at me, and tell me things I need to know, instead of looking good. Today I was served by Laura, and I feel very angry, because on my receipt today, I look at my Ultamate rewards and I see that it says I have 30 points expiring on 30th of June. Why could she not have advised me of this, so I could have used up my points? I am pretty aggravated about this, about the lack of communication from the cashiers with the customers. It literally feels as though I am torturing them, because I want to check out, I feel I should apologize for needing to make them do some work. I very much think you need to fine tune your staff training policies Ulta, because you just lost a customer to Sephora. And I only gave you one star because you have some good products. read more

I got my brows done I wasn't expecting them to thin them out as they did. The box they made seemed to be okay but they kept going at it and made them thin to their liking. Please let customers know you are going to thin them out. I don't like them. Other people may like their brows thin out but I didn't want them like this. read more

Alright ladies, this is the review that you've been waiting for. South Anchorage was all abuzz waiting for Ulta to open at Dimond Mall. So I have to say, I wasn't disappointed, but I wasn't swept off my feet either. But by Anchorage standards, you're not going to get much better. Here's the nitty gritty: Customer Service: Excellent. They've got several reps circulating the store assisting customers. Helpful but not intrusive. Yay! Clerks at the counter were also lovely. Selection: -In the hair care realm, they've got a wide and varied selection and their prices are competitive. And OMG they have the Chi Infra line (that's my jam!) and no one else in Anchorage carries it anymore, so for that alone, they had me at hello. Super selection of salon grade blow dryers, flat irons and curling irons. -In the cosmetics realm they have a Lancolm and Clinique counter for the high end goodies. They also have all the drug store varieties as well, but the prices are average, so you won't get a deal here. They also have a GREAT selection of salon quality nail polishes and lacquers. -Gift sets. Check! Lots of em, and great prices. EXCELLENT place to get gifts for the cosmetic lover in your life. -Fragrances, not nearly as much of a selection of Perfumania, but you are free to sniff as you please without a sales rep up your ass. So, yeah, that's cool. Some of them are high end, some are grocery store scents... but you won't find anything terribly exotic. -Salon. Kinda exposed so I don't know how I'd feel about having any work done in such a public environment. Kinda weird... All in all, I'm in. I'll still go to Walgreens for cosmetics, but Ulta definitely got me sold on their hair care and nail polish selection. read more

This is for Ulta in general... however this location is the first to notify me (announce) that we arent allowed to try on nail polish here. Isnt that the point of Ulta? I come to your highly marked up stuff so I can try it out versus buying it at another store or online for Much cheaper? So, how does it make sense that your return policy is a full refund for "so much" product left? So I cant test 1 nail in the store but I can use a quarter of the bottle at home for a few weeks (does anybody wear the same color more than that anyway) and then return it for a full refund? Ok. I'll just swap colors every week and have a new color every week for the cost of one bottle. Curious how exactly they could "help" me as they inquired 6 times (by a 2 different employees) over the 12 minutes I was there. Do the employes have super powers that will be able to show me what color will result if I overlay this and this? Without even trying it on? Seems like wasted talent working at a Mall with such skills! So long Ulta. You wont be missed but you'll be easily replaced. read more

For us beauty junkies Ulta was a welcome arrival on the Anchorage scene. Now opened with two locations in Anchorage, Ulta carries beauty products including high end cosmetic brands such as Too Faced, Becca, Benefit and more. Or for the more budget conscious they also carry "drugstore" makeup brands such as Loreal, Mabelline, Cover Girl, etc. It also carries hair tools, fragrances and professional hair care. The Dimond Center location opened in early October of 2015. This particular location features over 20,000 beauty products across 550 brands. Additionally it includes a full service salon where you can get your hair done, facials or even your brows waxed at the Benefit Brow Bar. Ulta has an outstanding loyalty rewards program where customers earn a point for every dollar spent. Those points can then be banked and used as savings for future purchases. And if you spend over $450 a year with Ulta you will become a Platinum member and earn 1.25 points for every dollar spent. Plus as a Platinum level member your points never expire. It is probably rather obvious from those reading this review that I am an Ulta fan. I was happy when their Tikahtnu location opened and even though it is closer to my home I find I much prefer the Dimond location. I find the staff friendlier and more outgoing. Willing to go out of their way to help when needed. Plus what is different from Ulta locations in the "Lower 48" is I find the Ulta locations here in Alaska to hold a better stock than most Ulta stores down in the states. I was recently in need of getting my brows waxed so decided to try out Ulta's beauty services. After all, who wants to look like Bert from Bert and Ernie. Unibrows are one fashion trend that will never be in style. I had called earlier in the day and was able to get an appointment shortly after work. I quickly found parking (hint: park on the back side of the mall by the Dimond Center Hotel area its quicker to run in this way) and wandered into the store. Even though I was early I was able to check in for my appointment and she set to work primping, pulling and waxing. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of attention and detail I was given during this service. Usually at other salons I have gone to some rush you in and out. 25 minutes later I was very pleasantly surprised when the mirror was held up to my face and I was shown the outcome. Its amazing how trimmed brows can totally frame ones face and eyes. And in this case all for $21.00 It was after this experience I decided I will be returning to Ulta and their Benefit Brow in the future. In fact it will become my normal location when I get my brows down. Plus even better, I earn points. Yes I am a platinum member many times over. I spend way too much at Sephora and Ulta in a given year. Thanks Ulta for the wonderful service and the friendly help. I definitely plan on going back and trying one of their Dermalogica facials in the future. read more

I had someone at the salon tell me I needed a new haircut because my current one was bad, had my skin insulted by a Clinique rep, and was overall treated with disdain by employees. The hair salon at Ulta is the best in town, in my own opinion. I have had the pleasure of having Toni and Harry both do my hair. The color is amazing, the cuts are precise (no short cuts taken!) and the styling is fabulous. I grew up in a salon, I went to beauty school myself and my mother owns a barber school. I know what to look for when someone is doing my hair! Are they cutting corners, are they giving bad advice, are they knowledgeable about modern techniques? They have thoroughly impressed me, I won't let anyone else touch my hair. If you're looking for that person that is your "person" for hair.. go to Ulta. Toni at Ulta on Dimond is AMAZING. I went to a different salon the day before, asked for a grey balayage but got an orange bright balayage instead. I cried and cried. I went to Ulta because they had availability right away because I needed it fixed ASAP. I called almost every hair place in anchorage asking for a quote and they all said about $300, toni was able to fix my hair for half of the price. She gave me the best haircut and color I've ever gotten so far in Anchorage. I already have another appt scheduled with her in 8 weeks for a different treatment. Happy I saw her today. So I love Ulta generally, but the manager at the Dimond store is really rude. She was the only person at the check out counter, and when I asked if she could ring me up she acted all put out. Then I had a coupon and she basically scolded me for not telling her before she rang me up. The bonus with purchase was also gone, and she seemed irritated that I asked about whether I could get a rain check. I tried to be as pleasant as possible considering I was just trying to buy something. Overall it was a really unpleasant experience for $100 of merchandise. The rest of the staff is great, but this particular employee was very off-putting. Hopefully it was just a bad day for her and not her regular attitude. read more

WORSE Decision I've EVER made by going there!! I was recommended by someone that said it was the "best" place to go touch up my roots. Well I was given an estimate of $130 to get my roots done, tone my hair and trim my ends. Well the woman that did my hair said she had availability and took me in. Then her client showed up and left me there with bleach on my hair! When she came back to remove the foil she washed it and brushed it like she was in a hurry! Well let me tell you that I lost 75% of my hair that day!!! Since she overlapped the bleach and left me there for like an hour, and the way she was brushing my hair, most of it fell off! When she was done she then covered all the parts that no longer had hair with the top hair. She then charged me $198 saying my hair was a lot of work! Obviously I didn't run my fingers through or inspected my hair (because I never had to) so I get home and put my hair up and see the horror of my new identity!! I can't tell you enough of how much losing my hair affected my self esteem! Tori was the woman that did my hair claiming she had "20yrs" experience. I went back and spoke to the manager but I think I was still in shock and too nice because they didn't give me all my money back and never offer anything to help with treatment on my hair!! Giving 1 star only because I can't leave zero. I went in 9 days ago to get my roots bleached out and the paper white color restored to my hair. I specifically asked the stylist before she even got started if she would be able to get my hair the color I wanted and she ASSURED me that it wouldn't be a problem. After bleaching my hair TWICE, I left the salon with my hair a dingy grey color that she ASSURED me would fade out to the paper white color I had requested. I paid a total of $205 to get a color that was NOTHING like what I had asked for and has not only not faded to the color it was supposed to be, but has already turned brassy on top of it. I called Guest Services the next day to let them know that I was unhappy with my service. Instead of having a manager contact me, they have the stylist I just complained about call me!! Then, after putting me on the spot for complaining about my service in the first place, she proceeds to inform me that the corporation doesn't carry the level of developer necessary to achieve the color that I asked for. Then, she gets me to make another appointment (which I had absolutely no intention of showing up for) so she can "try to fix it". First of all, if she knew from the get go that she didn't have the necessary product to do my hair correctly, she should have said something before she ever even sat me down in that chair. Second, anyone who bleaches their hair KNOWS that you shouldn't bleach it again for AT MINIMUM 6 to 8 weeks after it's been processed (and it's even longer when it's been processed twice). Third, considering I had just complained about the service I received from her, I wasn't going to let her anywhere NEAR my head again. I still have yet to actually receive a call from a manager (after 3 calls to Guest Services) and I'm getting more upset as this progresses. I don't like leaving negative reviews, but I don't see any alternative in this situation. I really hope they get it together and do something about this soon, because I've been a loyal customer since they opened up here and I really don't want to have to escalate this even further...... read more
