The signs near Ulriken are super misleading! We hiked from Floyen to Ulriken in the hopes of taking the cable car at Ulriken down, but the signs near Ulriken led us in a circle! It was terrible and we pretty much couldn't find our way. I've also heard the hike down Ulriken is really difficult and may take around three hours, so don't hike this unless you're readily equipped for it! The cable car itself if smooth and I think there would be a nice view, being Bergen's tallest mountain and all, but if it's raining or cloudy, you can't really see much. Ulriken is also a bit away from the city center; you'd have to take a bus to it.

We took the cable car up to Ulriken and then hiked Vidden to Floyen and took the cable car back down. The views at the top are great, but they really can't compare to the views along Vidden while hiking. We saw a lot of sheep along the trail too! The trail wasn't very well marked at the very beginning near Ulriken and we went the wrong way for a bit. Once we got past the first part and on the right path, the trail was very well marked the rest of the way. The hike was about 8 miles, but we ended up hiking closer to 10 with our getting lost at the beginning. The trail wasn't that difficult. It was mostly flat with just a little up and down, but it was so wet. By halfway through the hike we gave up on trying to keep our feet dry and just gave in to the fact that they were going to be soggy for the rest of the hike. The views were spectacular the entire time and I would highly recommend the hike! Make sure to give yourself enough time. It took us about 7 hours with getting lost for about an hour. We got to Floyen right as the sun was setting which was a great view.

Meh. I hiked the Vidden Path between Floyen and Ulriken and I have to say that Ulriken gets old pretty quickly. Sure it offers some nice views... but relative to Floyen? It really can't compare. If you're hiking Ulriken on VIdden, the bulk (like a solid 2-3 hours) is just on this "plateau" which is how they technically describe it but let me tell you, it's not a plateau at all. It's got rocks all over the place and there are a number of places you really are sliding down the rocks and hoping you don't fall and die. Yeah it's not flat rock climbing but it's effectively rock climbing combined with some hiking but really you're just scrambling and holding onto the rocks. The views are great at Ulriken's funicular, but honestly for the majority of the hike you just feel like you're alone in the world which is a cool feeling, but a little terrifying since I was hiking alone. There are a ton of Norwegians who exercise here though which is inspiring and humbling because they're pretty much very easily just running through the place without breaking a sweat. tldr; I think Vidden and hiking on Ulriken is worth doing if you have the time, but unless you're keen on finding a good workout, i would honestly just spend my time on Fløyen.

Place was nice! Wine was good. Food terrible. It was very cold, meat was raw wasn't able to chew it. Wouldn't really recommend.

The Norwegians brought the cod to the port and the Germans would buy it to sell to the rest of the continent. Think of Bryggen as a really old Fisherman's Wharf. Besides, the facade of the colorful plankboard buildings makes it the ideal subject of refrigerator magnets (photo: https://bit.ly/3zRYuH7). Sure, it's picturesque because it's always the opening shot of any travel video about Bergen. But as usual, what lies beneath is what fascinates as the narrow alleyways between the leaning warehouses houses interesting shops, art galleries, and museums. Apparently it's been rebuilt several times over the centuries due to fires and such, so it's like an HGTV program on a constant loop. I also noticed otherwise normal housewives turn into cheek-sucking fashion models posing against the aged planks for their Instagram moments. Jamie W. and I tried to emulate their approach, but we didn't starve ourselves enough to look waif-like. More whale-like. RELATED - Exploring Norway?
