I've got to believe there must be a fierce rivalry between Bergen and Oslo. Who would win in a WWF grudge match? Now it's true Oslo is over twice as populous, but Bergen was once Norway's capital, and they have reindeer hot dogs, too. I'm not surprised that both cities have huge fortresses (review: https://bit.ly/3BhArlD) as they were presumably a discernible measure of Viking testosterone. Jamie W. and I came upon this historical area after sauntering through the quaint quayside row of wooden buildings known as Bryggen (review: https://bit.ly/3CBM5tP).
The grounds were quite walkable with two dominant historical buildings: Haakon's Hall, the royal ceremonial hall (photo: https://bit.ly/3DyzDfb) and Rosenkrantz Tower, a fortified tower (photo: https://bit.ly/3ePvp8u). The fortress museum was worth a deep browse for its display of military artillery and an education on Bergen's role in the resistance during WWII. However, the most impressive sight might have been what was the longest urinal that I've ever seen. It was completely visible and even had a sign to eliminate any question about its function (photo: https://bit.ly/3BjLBGG). OK, Bergen wins.
