Many of the Germany military monuments were removed or destroyed but the Lancers monument remains. That's because it predates WWI and WWII, honoring the Westphalia Lancers Regiment. They were a cavalry regiment of the Prussian army formed in 1815 during the war of liberation in the fight against Napoleon.
The statue is about 50 feet tall and is cast in bronze, weighing around two tons. It depicts a soldier on a horse that is rearing up and holding a lance in his left hand.
The regiment was stationed in the Düsseldorf garrison from 1822, hence the monument being here along the Rhine. It was inaugurated in 1929.
