Wow! Such a beautifully macabre monument that perfectly captures how the city of Düsseldorf was founded after the Battle of Worringen in the Middle Ages. War is not pretty - it culminated in a lot of people losing their life and this sculpture is genius, cause it reminds you that people died so that the city of Düsseldorf could be built.
Look and see the gold stone in the pavement, right before the monument, and if you then look up at the sculpture and find the scythe, you will see it makes the shape of a "2" and then you will see the other items around it create the year 1288, which is the year the battle was fought.
The relevance of this sculpture also being placed near where the river Düssel empties into the Rhine is also so significant! I'm very glad I got to see this monument as part of our historical tour cause honestly, the way it is placed right now is kinda tucked away and so you really either need to come with a tour Guide or wait for serendipity to guide you to this sculpture.
Definitely come and check it out!!
