We hired Lenny to perform for us to help celebrate my husband's birthday. You select songs you want him to perform from a playlist. He played and sang to us for 45 minutes (about 12 songs). He even sang a special request of Over the Rainbow too - a classic on the ukelele. He encourages everyone to sing along as well so it was fun that we were able to do that. We were able to surprise my husbad when he showed up at the house and I told my husband there was a special delivery for him. My husband enjoyed it so much that he was almost in tears (of joy and happiness). There's something about the sound of the ukelele that's very soothing and peaceful. We hired Ukelenny for a party and couldn't be happier. He made the event. Don't be fooled by the Ukelele. For the price of a solo musician you get what feels like a whole band. Lenny also plays sax and a bunch of other instruments. He's high energy, engaging and lays it all out there. Great song selection, sense of when to have a chill vibe and when to jam. He covers all genres, not just Ukelele type stuff. He may not have the BEST voice but he knows how to use what he has to sound great. He was also a total professional. Communicated before the event, showed up on time; took only reasonable breaks, figured out the right location to perform from, facilitated welcome speeches etc. Finally, really enjoyed him as a person. So fun! Got to see Ukulenny on First Friday in October playing at the brand new parklet in front Farley's East. Unbelievably beautiful evening and so fun to watch the uke being used to play all kinds of different songs. I'm so used to hearing hawaiian meles that I had to adjust my earbuds. Of course there's Jake Shimabukuro to look to for wildly creative uke usage, but Ukulenny brings a sweet, fun, interesting slant for when you don't have Jake in your backyard. Lenny performed for our son's first birthday and all our family and guests cannot stop raving about how awesome the ukulele player was. When I think "private musician for a small surprise party," the first thought that comes to my head is "awkward." Lenny, however, is not only a talented musician who can sing and play Hawaiian standards on the ukulele, but he is also amazing and just rolling a potentially weird situation into an inviting, wonderful one. He arrived on time to meet at the pre-surprise location, was a dear to my family members (who were part of the surprise), jovially walked to the dinner, started playing, and barely stopped for two hours. Unexpectedly, he took requests - which even when he didn't know he was able to look up on his phone and play (great sight-reading!), and my family merrily sang along with him on many tunes. I've been following Ukulenny for a few years now and every gig I see him at, he's professional and fun! People dance, sing along and enjoy his playing. He plays and sings well known, fun songs with a remarkable repertoire for playing almost anything. I've seen him so many times that I had to hire him for my backyard party earlier this year. As expected, he lived up to his 5 star rating. You don't get a fantastic singer, but you get a multi-instrumentalist incorporating guitar, bass, beatbox and ukulele into his performance. Met Ukulenny at his first Uke Night at Pa'ina Lounge in July 2014 and then went to his Beatles Uke Night at the same venue. Went with friends and had a blast both times. Ukulenny and co-host will play for 20 minutes or so, then they jam with audience members who brought their ukes, and then people who signed up in advance get to strut their stuff in the open mic segment - take a break and then do it all again. Just the right amount of each segment to keep it fun and varied. Ukulenny is a talented multi-instrumentalist, singer, entertainer. and host... and one of the nicest people I've ever met. Venue is nice too, with a professional stage setup - there is one dining area with bar in front and another in back where the stage is, so customers who aren't interested in the entertainment can sit in the quieter front section.
