We had such high hopes for this place, being big fans of Korean food. The ambiance was cool, low key, and inviting. Unfortunately, the food didn't follow all the way through the standards that were set. Firstly, the bao buns were tasty, though a bit dry. The kimchi jigae was tart, spicy, and delicious! However, the compliments end here, as our entrees, Kiimchi fried rice and the Yakisoba, tasted identical and greasy, with a burnt and bitter aftertaste. What's even worse is that for our $100's worth of fine dining we were given plastic cutlery, which definitely took away from the allure and made it seem like we were eating at a place that couldn't even offer proper silverware? I ordered a kimchi soup with rice( forget the name on the menu) . The rice was ok even though it tasted not Korean style at all. The menu said the kimchi soup is with kimchi and tofu and other stuff. But I only had a few pieces of kimchi and 4 small chicken breast inside. And the soup is super Salty. The kimchi was terrible and my only feeling is salty. I added water inside 3 times and it still very salty. The waiter asked me how is the meal and I said salty. He said "oh, I will tell the chief and do you need more water." . . . . . . . I came to visit this place with my colleagues with little initial expectation, because many Korean restaurants in the US adjust their recipes to meet American tastes. I was afraid to let my friends disappointed, but I decided to check this place after finding Jjajangmyeon in the menu. Although this place has no Koreans and is run by Puerto Rican, I am really impressed the way they cook and cut Samgyeobsal that are so Korean style with authentic Korean side dishes. Especially they use Korean grills (seems they bought and brought from Korea). To my best knowledge, Chadolbaki uses beef briskets but this place serves rib eyes that was one thing different from authentic Korean food but still great. Thank you for their services as well and I was happy to take a photo with them to tell that my friends all saw my happiness even though I did not mean to reveal my feelings. Couldn't even serve myself the bbq meats, they do that for you. Tip: If you're going to open a restaurant that clearly isn't your culture. Do your best to research properly the recipes, style, spices, and overall service. When I first saw the prices for bulgogi at this restaurant, I was surprised. In the states you can get great unlimited korean bbq for under 25 dollars. Here? A small portion of meat is 35 dollars. And the food wasn't even that good either. It took 90 minutes for uncooked meat to get to our table. And they wouldn't even let us cook the meat ourselves. They had a selection of sake, not soju, for us to drink at a korean restaurant for some reason. I recommend this restaurant get some harder booze also not from Korea, like Everclear or Absinthe. The only way they'll satisfy customers while charging them a mandatory 20 percent gratuity is if those customers are completely wasted. read more

Although I look at reviews, this is the first time I write one because the best way I can show that I am pleased with a restaurant is to go as often as I can and bring family and friends there, so they can enjoy a great diner. If I don't like I, I just don't go back. This is NOT our case with Ujeong's. We just love it! Today, when I read Ujeong's reviews to show my daughter where I wanted to take my grandchildren for their first Korean dinner experience this afternoon, I could not believe my eyes reading the comments of a group that was there last night. I don't argue with a reviewer since everyone has the right to judge the food they eat; taste buds, purses, assessment to quality to price ratios, and other criteria are different. They did not have to like it. And they can say it. But, since my husband and I have been going there for the last six months, sometimes on a weekly basis and we have read other Ujeong's reviews before, I could not help concluding that the group's multiple reviews wanted to harm the restaurant's reputation and lower its rating. I just give an example of a false statement made by one of the reviewers: "Yes -- the meat quality is mediocre at best, but they make it tasty by adding a ton of MSG. Mmm." I am medically allergic to MSG. I have been taken to a hospital because of a migraine resulting from the use of MSG at a NYC restaurant. So, I do not eat at a place without asking if they use MSG. This is one of the many attributes I like about Ujeong- NO MSG!! Great tasting food!! Thus, as a reader, I judge the validity of that group's comments by such a serious false statement. All the reviewers in this group aligned to make nasty reviews and then also agreed with each other's comments. How surprising! Thus, I restate that Ujeong is top for the Korean cuisine they serve; the food's value [quality/price] is very high; service is outstanding, as is its ambience, décor and comfort. Don't miss it!! I want to like this place so badly! I really really do, but first of all they say they are responsive on yelp to reservations but I didn't hear back for two days. Overall atmosphere is super cool and the service was really good. Food at the moment was good, I didn't notice my friend pushing some of the chicken to the side and I must have eaten what she saw were undercooked pieces because I had food poisoning all night from it. Really wish I had a better experience. The fried rice and the cream cheese dumplings were really good! But just double check the meat before eating!!! read more

The food was really good. The surprise came with the bill. We ate bao tacos, crunchy sweet bbq chicken (both were appetizers) then we had the meat sampler you cook on the burner at each table. Totally fun until the bill comes and it's $156! I thought it would be 1/2 that. Look at the prices and be clear if you order an appetizer, tell them if you are sharing. I'm a big advocate of Korean BBQ. Any time I find a Korean BBQ place in my travels I always try to check it out. This time I was traveling back to my hometown San Juan Puerto Rico and I was trying to find a place to take my family. (Not an easy task) When I saw that there was a Korean place I just had to go. They definitely exceded our expectations! They also added a slight Puertorican flavors to some of the dishes while maintaining the true nature of Korean BBQ. It's definitely a place to go if you are in PR the drinks were great and the food was amazing! The service was very attentive an knowledgeable. It's become one of my GO TO'S when I come back home. I called at 6:30 and was told my order would be ready in a half hour. I arrived at 7 while my family drove around in the car since parking is limited. They brought out half of my order at 7:40 and I waited until 8 for the rest of it. The food that was waiting got cold and at that point they decided to tell me that my order was missing the protein because they had none left. I had already paid and they didn't offer a refund for what I didn't receive. Lastly, I tried the dumplings, only to find that the dumplings were made with beef when I asked for vegetarian ones. If there was an option for 0 stars, that's what this place would be. I don't even know what to say. I'm Korean and moved to San Juan. I was sooooo excited when I saw this restaurant. But sadly, I doubt the cook has ever tasted korean food. Perhaps, the cook learned on youtube? This place should NOT be called Korean BBQ. Their short ribs taste nothing like Korean short ribs. Their stews are way too salty and not authentic. And their kimchee is ridiculously old and sour. They should never serve their kimchee as a side dish but it needs to be thrown out. Korean people would never eat it. I think it's even too old to make authentic kimchee chigae. And the rice isn't Korean at all. It is medium grain and it's seasoned?! Korean rice is short grain and sticky and fluffy with NO SEASONING!! If you don't even know how to make korean rice, you don't know how to make korean food in general. Ughhhh. Such a disappointment I can't even express. So I've decided to make my own korean food and banchan at home from the grocery store. But the grill/exhaust and ambiance is right on. The decor and perfect down to the signage. But after you take one bite, you'll realize you're in Puerto Rico with no hope for authentic Korean food. I almost cried walking home. I really hope another korean restaurant opens up with an actual korean cook. Maybe someone can get their mom, aunt, or even grandma to move to San Juan and open a real Korean restaurant. Let's start with... you don't necessarily cook your food, waiters do help you, but of course they help you because they don't want you to burn off a finger. I've been to a Korean BBQ before and honestly I enjoyed Ujeong very much. The services and the food was incredible. This restaurant is awful! Managers are awful! This is a terrible Korean BBQ experience. They claim to be the only Korean BBQ experience on the island which is false.called manager over to the table and this is what we told. She was so unreceptive to feed back about her restaurant. Awful manager...with regard to our tip she told us not to worry about it. We still tipped bartender who was amazing 20$ . What type of manager tells customers not to tip there employees! She was awful!this is a failing business...don't waste your time, portions are small and it's not a real Korean BBQ experience. As puertorricans, we're sadly used to mediocre service, but what actually bothered me was the price. We knew what we were getting in to, since I researched the place and the owner's wife offered us a "special" for X price and the food was delicious (I can't compare it to anything else since this is the closest thing we have on the island to a korean bbq), but to our surprise they changed the prices on the check. Awful customer service. If you are looking for authentic Korean cuisine look elsewhere. the owner is the only one taking orders which creates massive wait times. We kept getting instruction on how to use the grill, but after we were told to wait for one of the "chefs" no one would come and the owner would blame us for burning the grill. We had to turn off the grill ourselves because if we would have waited for a waiter the grill would have actually caught on fire. We had to clean our own table since they didn't take away any of the plates. We also had a reservation and waited over an hour to be seated. This are just some of the issues caused by the owners micromanagment. I have never been so disappointed with a korean bbq restaurant, I wanted to have a nice dinner and reminisce on my mother's cooking. To get the positives out of the way first, the food was pretty good. Amanda (our server) was great overall however I couldn't fully enjoy my time or my meal because of the two supervisors. Our server was missing most of our visit because the supervisors kept rushing her around (despite the fact that the restaurant was not very busy). They where both running around like a bunch of blind crackheads. We witnessed the female supervisor racing her voice very noticably at one of the employes and even clapping at our server while yelling out her name to hurry her as if she was some sort of pet or servant. Very arrogant and unprofessional. The male supervisor cooked our food and touched stuff on our table with no gloves on. He also was making very inappropriate comments at me (a 17 y/o minor) when I was struggling to eat a lettuce wrap telling me how I need to "swallow it whole with both hands" and asked me if I "swallow my sushi whole" when I eat it. And ranting about politics. Please try to be more careful and respectful with your words when speaking to your clients (especially if said client is a minor) and please learn how to respect your servers and not belittle and try to discipline your staff in front of the entire restaurant . It made me feel extremely uncomfortable. I could keep going but I refuse to waste any more time on this place with terrible service especially after reading some of the very unprofessional/disrespectful reply's to some of the other bad reviews.
