However, the basement was not finished, but had rough-in plumbing installed. We were looking for someone to finish the basement (4 rooms total), including adding an additional bedroom with closet and full bathroom. This included all electrical, plumbing, framing, drywall, door installation, flooring, trim, and painting. Mike was quick to respond to my original inquiry, come check out the space, and provide a quote. He was timely, friendly, and easy to collaborate with. We changed our mind a few times on final design - we appreciate how patient he was with us while we narrowed in on the final plan. The final quote was very detailed and he provided helpful information on the areas for potential cost increase (given that the home is old and there could have been unexpected things identified after work begun). This helped us set our expectations for the project. During the project, he kept us up to date on progress or concerns and kept the area very clean (ensuring very little debris made its way outside the basement into our home). He managed all of the subcontractors (electric, plumbing, carpet, etc) so we didn't need to worry about a thing. Made it super easy by having one point of contact! His work speaks for itself. There were a lot of difficult aspects of the basement to figure out (i.e. uneven walls and ceilings, tricky vents or pipes along the ceiling, water/electrical shutoffs needing to be accessible, etc), but he managed to turn the space into exactly what we were looking for. The attention to detail makes all the difference! In the end, the project took about two months (including carpet installation) and final cost was in line with the estimate. He showed up on time for the estimate, and gave me a fair price regarding installing a small gate on an existing 3 year old fence. I felt like he communicated well enough with me at the time, and also did some follow up planning and communication via text shortly thereafter. He didn't give me an official written quote for the job during the estimate phase except for a verbal mention/agreement; and then later in a text. On the day of the scheduled job, he showed up a bit late - approx an hour. I was a bit concerned and was really hoping he would show up, so I texted him to make sure he was still coming. My concern also stemmed from a previous text I sent him approx. the day before, and not receiving a response from him. I thought that was odd. My unsettled feeling on the whole situation stems from the numerous and incredibly unbelievable poor encounters I've had with various contractors overall in the past. I have been seriously and sadly conditioned to expect the worst now. It's really quite disconcerting and unfortunate. He texted me back and said he was on his way and showed up shortly thereafter. He had an associate/helper with him. When he arrived he looked and acted flustered and highly irritated. It quickly became clear that he wasn't interested in engaging with me, and it was very confusing, awkward and off-putting. It was like he was a totally different person. He was short with me and acted like he couldn't be bothered. I didn't understand the problem, and I didn't really say anything more to him after I briefly tried to confirm the job he would be doing. I even tried engaging with his helper, but he wasn't interested in being cordial either. He pretty much acted like he didn't seem to know what was going on. Honestly,.... I was very close to telling both of them to forget about doing the job because I was feeling super uncomfortable about the whole negative vibe and atmosphere. But,... I really wanted/needed a gate, so I tried to let it go. I promptly left them alone to do the job. The job didn't seem to take long at all. The gate looks adequate and functional enough; and so I basically got what I paid for. I paid him promptly after the job was completed and I asked for a receipt, but he didn't have one. I asked that he send one to me, and I eventually received it some days later. Regrettably, I would have to say that I wouldn't recommend his services because of the overall irregular experience.
