Looked at the website prior to coming. It consisted of a 90's looking PDF and the words "lefse, lefse, lefse, FRESH LEFSE, everyday." I was in Starwood a little early for a Dr's appointment and had an hour to wait until they opened so I went to a local park and walked around. Upon arriving the open light wasn't on. I waited 15 minutes until someone finally came out. I get out of my car and am greeted by whom I assume is the employee telling me "are you here to look" and "oh you can go in then". Glad I had permission to enter a shop that should have already been open for 20mins. As I look around the tiny closet of a shop she begins asking me "what am I looking for" I tell her lefse for sure and maybe a gift if I find the right thing. I can't say for sure but I got the vibe she thought I was stealing. This shop is so tiny she literally has merchandise on the floor for lack of space. There's no way it is ADA compliant or up to fire code. I don't find anything I like and proceed to the counter and inquire about the Lefse. She explains it comes in packs of 6 is 10.50 a pack and asks how many I want. I request 2 and then watch as she clears merchandise off of a freezer and removes prepackaged Lefse. I debate internally whether to get it or leave and get the ingredients to make. Ultimately considering the labor it takes to make I opted to buy. I get my card out and she proceeds to ask if I wanted a 3rd pack because she "doesn't do card for less than $30. If not I'll have to calculate the tax." I let her do her calculations and leave with my frozen not "fresh" lefse. In my car I look at the lefse in question to see where it came from. Some place in ND called Freddy's. Further inspection of the package and I see no indication as to when it was made or when it expires. I check their website to see what kind of markup I just took and surprisingly found it to be close to what I had just paid. Moral of the story is... if you want lefse either make it yourself or look online where you can just order it. Also maybe charge sales tax as it's the law and look into whether a wheel chair can fit inside your fire-nightmare death-trap of a closet. Oh...and update your website so as to not falsely advertise fresh food. As to the employee I cannot say she was particularly rude like many other ratings have said but she wasn't particularly nice either and I got the impression she doesn't particularly care. Their lefse is frozen. The prices are high. I was expecting items from Norway but most of the items are from China and Thailand. The shop is small but there is a lot of stuff. We did manage to find a few gifts for Christmas. read more

We passed by this shop for years, wanting to go inside, but they were always closed when we'd drive by (seemed to have inconsistent hours). We finally got to go in a couple months ago, and it was incredibly disappointing. With covid guidelines, they could allow only 4 people in the store at a time, which was fine because we had 4 people in our group. The woman kept asking us if we needed help, and we felt like we were being rushed so we decided to leave. My friend went to buy a magnet (for a few dollars), but the woman said they only accept cards for purchases of $30 or more...with a store full of small knickknacks, $30 is a little steep. I had hoped this store would have more interesting Scandinavian finds. It was about half Camano Island/Stanwood crab souvenirs and half items with gnomes on them with odd phrases (like "Merry Uff Da," which doesn't even make sense). Disappointing selection, poor customer service. read more

The Shoppe is kind of cute but you can't judge a Shoppe by that. They are very rude and do not serve you quickly at all. I would not recommend this place but if you like quant small shoppe's then this is your place. read more

I love the Uff Da Shoppe! Every time we drive through town on our way to our summer home, the kitschy gnome and Uff Da-ness welcomes us home. It is just one of those great little local places that make you smile. The owners recently did some remodeling and now it's cuter than ever. They have fun gifts and a nice little selection of harder to find items for us Scandinavian folks (a regular supply of lefse and lingonberries and super good crispbread). read more

Absolutely adore this shop! It's like a step back in time. I have gone to this trusted shop for many years and am always pleasantly surprised by the new items that the owner has introduced into her store. With all of the big box stores, it's a breath of fresh air to be able to find wonderful, unique gifts from across the globe and to be able to support a small business owner. Sad.. We used to always get lefse here but never again. Yesterday my wife sent me to pick up some lefse for Thanksgiving. The owner, who has always been so kind and gracious, was incredibly rude. She was busy, I was busy, we are all busy .. she said she would only accept exact change unless I bought 5x more than we needed. I thought, well that's not ideal but I suppose that will have to do and pulled the debit card out of my wallet. The owner sighed and rudely said "CANT YOU COME BACK TOMORROW!?" I was floored and explained that we had an out-of-town funeral to attend tomorrow (Sunday). We both work 12 hour days, 5 days a week, so yesterday was our only option or no lefse this Thanksgiving. She couldn't have cared less. A polite "so sorry, my debit card machine is down" or "Certainly, I just need a couple of minutes to finish what I'm working on and I'll be right with you" would have been a much more pleasant and appropriate interaction. I am stunned that a business owner would be so incredibly rude to a customer. I really hope she realizes that her rudeness can easily cost her more than $30 worth of business. My wife and I will never shop there again and we will tell everyone about what a rude experience I had. We loved that shop. Sadly, I hope QFC has lefse. read more

I was hoping for more items imported from Nordic countries such as knitwear, knives, wood working, felt, jewelry, etc. They basically items you would find in a US gift shop but with Nordic flags. Maybe they could work with the Nordic Heritage Museum or Scandinavian grocery in Seattle for better sourcing. I will try again next time as I love the idea of the shop. read more

Cute little shop that I spotted on the way through and made a stop in on the way home. I was looking for more items that said "Uff Da" on it, given the name of the store and my dream to get an Uff Da bumper sticker that matches my grandmas ;) They had a lot of unique trinkets but not quite what I wanted. Also the shop seems very cramped, it was a little hard to maneuver around. I didn't purchase anything but on the way out someone else was and it sounded like they only accept Visa or Mastercard (just a heads-up). read more

What a great European shop, we enjoyed looking at all of the Scandinavian cookware. We loved the variety of gift items as well as the unique items for the home. I highly recommend a trip to the Uff Da Shoppe. Be sure to pick up the one of a kind lefse, a treat not to be missed. read more

The Uff Da Shoppe, Viking Village, Stanwood, Washington is NOT going out of business! My sister-in-law and I visited the shop on August 30, 2008, and found it a delightful little place with a large quantity of Scandinavian-themed items, along with some Irish and German gifts thrown in for good measure. We purchased some freshly made lefse, enjoyed the more light-hearted items, and listened to Scandinavian music in the background. The Uff Da Shoppe in Stanwood has been in business for well over 25 years. I know because I've been shopping there since 1984. What a great place! It isn't easy to find things from Norway, Sweden and Denmark these days. I've been to Ballard where the Nordic Heritage Museum is and even Ballard has very few specialty shops these days. Not only does the Uff Da Shoppe have a delightful selection of Nordic souvenirs (and fresh lefse!), but the owner will special order things if you ask. That includes any Nordic trolls you might call gnomes! By the way, for those who don't know what "Uff Da" means, it is a Norwegian expression that is more a sound than a word. My grandmother could have an entire telephone conversation where every response was an "uff da." If she received a report that a neighbor's child skinned a knee, she'd say, "Uff da!" If a neighbor's cat climbed and stayed in a tree, she'd say, "Uff da." I've been told by Swedes that they have a similar expression but that the sound is made from further down in the throat; I have no idea how you'd spell it although I did hear a demonstration. I don't know if the Danes have a similar expression or not. read more
