I was referred to try this bank out and so far so good. Very nice establishment with a great staff. I was introduced to Johnathan and he has been nothing but a godsend. He help me open my accounts and also gave me an actual understanding on what was going on. He was also able to answer all of my questions about credit, credit score etc. I can reach out to him if I ever have a question that needs to be answered that wasn't asked while in the facility. I had a great experience at the bank today. My account was overdrawn because of a fraudulent purchase at a gas station, and it put me in a real pickle. But after explaining the situation, Eric was able to secure me a loan for $300 that would get me by. He also waived the overdraft fees as a result of my account being overdrawn by the fraud. Honestly, most banks would not have gone to the extent that Eric did to help me out of a bind. I also met with the bank manager who was also very helpful too. I've been with UFCU for over a decade now, and they are always there to help out when you need it the most. I'm very grateful for them and they have earned my trust many times over. read more

Used to love this bank. Now it SUCKS! They updated their mobile app and online banking w/o warning, and botched the transition so completely that hundreds of customers were left without access to their accounts. To correct the issue we had to physically go to the bank and stand in line for their employees to walk us through their new broken, convoluted system. I just left there & the place was swarming with pissed off bankers. I thought a credit union would treat its customers better.. but for this much hassle and stress I may as well belong to a big conglomerate. Totally inept. I've been with UFCU since I was 5 and my mom took me to the main branch with my bag of coins to start a savings account. Everything had been hunky-dory, and now they were finally opening a branch in my part of town! It's sleek, bright, and claims to be eco-friendly. But it's not as customer friendly as the other locations, and due to two very bad visits I won't be back to this branch. The first event happened when I went inside to deposit some checks. Everything went smoothly until about 5:30 that evening when I get a call. The teller tells me that he can't seem to find my check so they will be removing the deposit "since you put it in savings and don't need it right away anyway." Unbelievable! They must have had it at some point to credit my account but after a few calls the branch manager tells me it is nowhere to be found and that I have to get another check issued. Um, no. If your teller lost the check, you can suck it up and give me MY MONEY back! The check was issued through a UT research study so I was worried about getting it reissued, but thankfully they were kind enough to do so. After I finally got over that debacle I went back and decided to go through the drive through.... 50 minutes later the person in front of me in line is finally done and I can pull up. Believe me, I would have left, but there was a person behind me also hopeful that things would be done any minute. The teller apologizes for the wait saying that the lady ahead had a bunch of issues and questions. If someone needs 50 minutes of help I would think that you could ask them to pull into a parking spot and come inside out of courtesy for those waiting and the environment. I won't even give this branch a chance for the third strike. read more

I had a pretty similar experience here. Lots of details missed. I even got some bad information after asking direct questions. For example, you can't cash a check here for sixth months no matter what your balance is or how small the check may be. Despite being told by the girl who opened my account for me that it would "probably be fine." It's not like I ever needed to do this more than a couple times, but to be told you can't cash a $50 check after having your account for almost half a year... seriously, wtf? The waits are super-long unless you use the drive-through at a quiet time of day (like early afternoon). If you need to have questions answered, it's like no one knows what to do because there are tellers and people who help you out with loans and new accounts -- and no one really willing to give you the time of day unless you want to do one of those three specific things. It's not like this is the worst bank ever, but it is certainly the worst experience I've ever had at a credit union. The rotten cherry on top was that they charged me for other people's mistakes! As if it isn't bad enough that my husband's work bounced half a dozen of his paychecks before he could find other work, this place slammed *us* with the fees for his *employer's* insufficient funds problems. Maybe the other branches are tip top and I just never discovered it. But based on my experience at this branch, I would recommend ANYTHING over an account at UFCU. My new credit union must think I'm crazy because I flatter them for giving regular old decent service! read more

I have banked with UFCU since 2007 and plan to stay forever. The staff is always friendly, knowledgeable and professional. I have never had a check placed on hold status, they always make the funds available immediately. The only draw back is that there are no other locations in Texas, makes ATM fees inevitable. However the lack of sophisticated improvements and non refunded ATM fees, it's still my favorite. read more

I like my bank. I joined during summer orientation my freshman year and I haven't looked back. Even when I lived in Phoenix for a stint, I kept UFCU. I like this location because I'm usually in south Austin (convenient location). I like those crazy teller stations where you pick up the hand set and talk to a tv screen. It's weird and I usually just end up talking to the screen, but I like it. I dislike that you cannot drive to the location from Congress and cut through the McDonald's parking lot. Lunch rush is going to be busy but the long wait becomes a little more unbearable when you see staff unpacking boxes, at one of the busiest times of day, hanging out in one another's cubicles, at one of the busiest times of day, and they mention that they can't get staff to come out front, at one of the busiest times of the day. At least hide it or give the illusion that you are actually short staffed so I, as a current customer, wanting to open a business account, doesn't have any other option but to stew in his seat for 30 mins without a word, or leave, which is what ended up happening. Beyond this experience all others have been pleasant, at many OTHER locations. Good job To both the Guadalupe locations and the 290/mopac location. read more

BEWARE...I filed a dispute with their Visa fraud department at the end of April, they sent me a letter with questions to answer about the dispute with an envelope to mail back and also an option to fax(don't know who had a fax machine these days but okay) I typed a letter, dated and signed them mailed it. I never received an email, text or call indicating that the fraud department had not received the letter and they took the money out of my account and overdrew the account! I called UFCU who passed me on to the Visa fraud department who told me it'll be 15 business days before they even open the case again and then another 15 days to get the money back in my account. This all happened the same day my car insurance and credit card payment was due so now I'm driving around with no car insurance and am late on my credit cards which will surely negatively effect my credit score. Rent is due on the first so I'm most likely facing eviction proceedings. This could have been avoided if they notified me that they didn't receive the letter through snail mail. They don't have the option to scan and email and only the option to fax so I'm wondering if this operation is set up for failure. They told me the bank would fax it for me but that was not mentioned on the letter and only after this debacle. I am stopping ALL activity in this account including my direct deposit and switching banks to save my financial situation. Be careful with UFCU if you decide to bank with them. I will probably NEVER get this money back and I don't have the product from the dispute and the merchandise doesn't have the money either so they took ghost money and systematically ruined my life and messed up my plans for my future. I just had the most disturbing experience with Preston Harris a teller at the Ben White branch. I've been a member at UFCU for years with a very good record. He was giving me the run around needling to hold my check because I was 18 cents over drawn. It did not matter that I was a member with a good track record, he treated me like I would expect Wells Fargo to treat me. And to top it off, I quote, " I'm going to send you home without letting you deposit your check... because you have an attitude problem", as he smirks to the teller beside him. I said, your acting like a parent and he said " because h I have never had such a horrible experience with a teller. I have never had a problem there... but this is enough to make me take my business elsewhere. read more

This review is ONLY for drive through services!! UFCU, people and their policies, is great but this location's drive through sucks!! They definitely need to hire more staff to meet the demand of the drive through traffic...This location is between my work and home so I use it more often. Everytime, Sitting in car, waiting 15 minutes for the other cars infront of me to be done, then another 15 minutes to wait for someone to reply my inquiries, and then last 15 minutes to get all the receipts back. As one of the newest UFCU branches, this place is pretty awesome! Contrary to these other reviews, I have had nothing but great service there. Everyone is always so pleasant, and willing to help. I think UFCU is a great credit union to be a part of and I feel a lot of that has to do with the people they employ. The tellers always have a smile on their faces, and the lobby folks are always willing to help you out in any way they can. Sure there may be wait when you go in to do a transaction, but its hard to get upset when you are greeted with a smile. I should also mentioned that I recieved a handwritten note from the person who opened my account with his business card attached. A bank would never be caught doing that! I had my debit card skimmed at Tino's. Bad guys tried 4 transactions in South Africa; first one went through, last three declined. Fraud guys called me the day it happened. UFCU shredded my old debit card, made me a new one, told me to come back when the transaction posted to dispute it. Posted today, they credited my account immediately. Good people. read more

I was accosted (harassed) by the security guard that stands outside the building. She started the interaction by telling me "today is not my day," and proceeded to start yelling at me for trespassing. When I asked if she knew if I was a customer or not she said "no!" and in saying that I proved that she didn't know how to do her job appropriately. The aggressive attitude was so off putting that I changed my mind about opening a new account through this company. I've been told to start an account with a credit union, but I can safely suggest you do not open an account through this business. I proceeded to go in to attempt to make an account still, and was not surprised to find that even the employees inside were rude to me. The way I was treated after the security guard went inside was even more deplorable, in which I was openly judged for my appearance and told I wouldn't "fit as one of their customers." This was all based on a security guard's MOOD. Highly advise against this establishment. read more

What sort of bank only takes some type of money but not others?? They have no problem with me withdrawing quarters through the drive-through, but apparently I can't deposit them? I applied for a home loan a few months ago, was never called or contacted. I have an auto loan with UFCU, changed insurance companies, faxed my declaration page 3 x-continued getting nasty letters requesting the info or they would add $3,500 to my loan. Finally had to drive to the branch to physically hand them the documents, where you get to sign in and wait to speak to someone. Extremely slow service. read more

There are several things I love about UFCU and a couple improvements I would like to see. Things I love: 1. It's local. If more people used local banks then there wouldn't be a giant financial crisis. 2. It's nonprofit, or as I know it, life after bank fees. 3. I have my car insurance through them. They got me a great rate and instead of calling some machine for national chain, I call an UFCU agent who can help me out. 4. Their mobile app isn't as fancy as national chains but it provides me with all the features I need without the unnecessary flashiness. 5. Everyone's always nice. I kinda wish they had more people to greet me, but I understand that they're keeping costs down so that they don't have to charge me fees. Things I would like improved: 1. The ATM won't let me deposit $100 bills.....Why? That's just silly. 2. I hate that the UFCU parking lot is blocked off from the McDonalds parking lot, or visa versa. When I come to UFCU via S. Congress I have to park in McDonald's parking lot and walk over. I could probably use the exercise though. I love this bank, and I vow to never use a national chain ever again. read more

I've been 'banking' with UFCU almost from the onset of me moving here. For some odd reason when I first moved here I decided to bank with a traditional bank. HUGE mistake! I have totally free checking, a savings account AND an auto loan through them. I refinanced through them and cut my interest rate in HALF. I've had my Identity stolen and was refunded ALL of my money within hours. I even changed my due date of my auto loan without any paperwork or hassles. I keep seeing all of these negative reviews and am wondering if these folks ever have banked with a traditional bank. If they had, they wouldn't be whining so much. I read the 2016 and 2017 posts about his great service and here we are in 2020 and he's still amazing. Not sure where he is located these days given the COVID-19 situation but he helped me over the phone to complete a transaction that I usually dread. He was quick and knew what my concerns were. Car buying is emotionally draining. It's nice to know your bank is on your side when it comes to the exciting yet risky adventure of purchasing a vehicle. I'm happy to continue financing our family vehicles through UFCU. My children are now seeing the benefits of UFCU vs other credit unions in the area. I absolutely love UFCU! I've been banking with them since I was 15 years old and they ALWAYS have treated me so well. My father and grandmother have also been banking with them for years and love them as well. They're extremely understand and unbelievably helpful. Anytime I'm in a pickle, all I have to do is call and there is usually something they can do to help. All of the people I have dealt with are so nice and willing to help. This I one of the worst banks I have ever encounter, employers are so incompetent to work there, they have no skills, no costumer service, they shouldn't work there if they can't provide a service... again I went to ask info about my loan, they could not give me the right answers, I was there for an hour, trying to learn what happened to my account. .. and this agent name Matt, was totally ignorant he did not care to explain what I needed to know.. On top of that I've never had to deal with the worst costumer service reps, they talk to you slowly like you can't understand English. They are unwilling to help, had the worst attitudes like they didn't want to be there and took it out on the customers. this branch is beyond disgusting. grafitti carved and written on everything, ink smeared everywhere, slime and filth on canister and buttons, screen totally jacked, audio unlistenable, gum and crud on floor. i have been in cleaner outhouses. it doesn't change. i visit monthly and always a filthy craphole. members are forced to come into the branch for "in person" transactions then forced to look at a crappy video screen in a toilet stall. the sad thing is, they don't care about this branch. in wealthy areas the branches are much nicer. hmmm. there are some great credit unions in the austin area but this one has crashed to the bottom in the last few years. choose another. united heritage is really good. read more

My grandfather passed leaving me the executor of his estate, wherein I had to open an Estate Account. I have never had to do anything like this so was completely ignorant of what I was doing, but Johnny Griffiths made it so simple, fast and painless. He helped me get the required EIN right at his desk. I was checked-in-open account-and out with a debit card and paper checks in hand in less than 30 min. Johnny was so sweet, polite and knowledgeable. What he didn't know he quickly found the right resource and was able to give a solution.
