They had the nerve to knock down my near perfect credit rating simply (which has already recovered to "exceptional" rating) for MY deciding not to proceed with an equity loan after I sold one of our rental properties and no longer desired a loan for investment from Frost Bank. . All I got was a worthless phone call apology from Frost Banks for thier blatant lies that my loan application was "turned down by them", when in reality it was I who rejected Frost . (I never proceeded with the loan application and provided no information for their review). I recently switched to Frost from RBC Centura, primarily because RBC Centura doesn't exist in Texas. The decision was entirely uninformed. I was going to join Wells Fargo but I had had a shitty morning, I was downtown, and Wells Fargo was several blocks further down along Congress than Frost from where I was standing. I suppose I'm glad I did. But let's start with the drawbacks. -ACCOUNT GLITCHES It could be the fault of the machine running my card. But my card was embarrassingly declined one night out. I thought maybe I'd overdrawn somehow and got myself all upset. Turns out it was a mistake and I had plenty of money in my account. But I had to wait until the next morning to find out, because their.... -PHONE SERVICE IS ONLY FROM 8:30 A.M. TO 9:00 P.M. As a former client of a huge semi-national bank chain, I am used to 24-hour staffed phone service. It's crucial in times like that night in question. They could at least have an automated service. Failing that, one should be able to look online. But unfortunately... -ONLINE SERVICE IS DOWN FROM 12:00 MIDNIGHT TO 5:00 AM EVERY NIGHT!!! They call it "scheduled maintenance." I call it nonsense. But if you don't often find yourself needing to access your account in the wee hours, this may be the bank for you, because... -IT'S BEAUTIFUL. People may debate the merits of the structure itself ("owl tower," designed by a Rice grad, and guess what their mascot is). I personally like it. But the inside is gorgeous and makes you feel very special. Immaculate marble, fancy wood paneling. Nice Texas-themed photographs instead of hideous paintings or dumb corporate stock photos. Their paper materials have some really nice graphic design. Granted, this may not be the most important thing about a bank. -PERSONAL SERVICE The branch is staffed by a line of tellers AND a pair of "greeters" who I believe to be bankers as well. When you walk up they welcome you and ask how they can help you and point you in the right direction, which is usually the tellers behind them. I got a handwritten card in the mail after joining. -NICE EXTRAS They have cookies and coffee in the lobby and a couple of computers where you can access your online banking. They also have calculators at the deposit-slip-signing-area (I don't know how else to describe it). This is a nice extra touch that makes total sense but that I haven't seen at my old bank. The calculators even have a button on them you can press to call a manager over. Been a member of the bank since college. Recently though I was trying to figure out why money kept disappearing even though i was not really using my card. Come to find out they have charged me close to $10 a mo/ in bank fees for dipping below the balance required. The customer service / bank tellers I will say are nice and helpful. I appreciate and value that but not at the expense of losing money I'm not even enjoying myself. Thats unacceptable to me. Im canceling my account and going to a credit union today. read more

Cronyism. This is the text I received from one of the bankers handling the SBA loans . I had expressed my disappointment over what a horrible runaround experience I had with Frost Bank attempting to get an SBA Covid/19 Relief Loan. Money was given to the SBA by the federal government to help small businesses get through this lockdown. After jumping through hoop after hoop...made to fill out " the same applications 6 times ...told to go to several different branches and drop off my application in the parking lots of these branches. Advised to go on line where their website would not take the application, calling time after time to only one number Frost Bank provided on their website all the while no one would get back to me. This went on for 3 1/2 days .. complete run around Then 2 weeks later ....after i was told to fill out my application 6 diferent times...I finally got a hold of a banker and after questioning and pressing really hard I was told FROST BANK had no more SBA money to lend out. They never called me nor tried to contact me ....I had to do the chasing to find information But the best part is this... this banker I finally got ahold of told Frost Bank had given out in Houston alone, 860 loans averaging $580,000.00 ....guys if a business is given a 580,000.00 loan THAT IS NOT SMALL BUSINESS. In my opinion that is cronyism and this SBA money was given to their big banking accounts. Not small ones...like me and others in my industry. It was not Frost Banks money to pick and choose. It was the American taxpayers money. I was asking for only 41,000.00 to keep my employees from having to file for unemployment ,pay my rent , trying to make my business survive and not lose it. I went with Frost for my SBA loan because I was told they have the best rates and are very quick. This could not be farther from the truth. Absolutely horrible service. I have been told several times they had everything they needed to approve and send off the paperwork to the SBA for final approval and every time they come back with more excuses and needing documents that I already gave them or that do not exist because I was not formed as a corporation at that time. Total incompetence! Here is the kicker my account is supposedly being processed by a Vice President. Stay far from Frost for any business accounts or loans. Oh, and another thing this VP was pushing me to change my business bank accounts over to Frost and not my current bank (my bank does not process SBA loans, so I had to go to an outside source). I was a customer of Frost Bank for over ten years and even paid off a car with them, with no issues, until they started re-ordering my debits, maximizing overdraft charges and creating fake ACH's to cause overdrafts after I stopped using the account prior to shutting it down. My disappointment cannot be expressed in words and I'm not sure what changed to have them start doing things like that, but it was at the worst possible time for me, a time when I needed a good bank at my back, and they just ate me alive until there was nothing left. After I closed the account, they created a $25 ACH from Verizon.....investigation into the payment revealed Verizon never ACHd a payment, which made sense considering I had just paid my monthly bill 2 weeks before that. A few days after Beijing burnt down a luxury hotel next to their hideous CCTV unstable-looking tower, I came to realize how much I really value the Frost tower in Austin's skyline. None of the other skyscrapers can match the Frost building's well-lit spire and unique shape. My friend pointed out that when looking at it from a corner, it looks like an owl. It really does. I could stare at the Frost building for an hour, enamored by the owlness while sitting at Kebabalicious, slightly tipsy, eating some hangover-preventing falafel. Architecturally speaking... At this point, the most interesting part of our skyline minus the capitol building, this well recognizable city landmark is either admired or hated completely, and although the bank can be lauded for supporting All Things Texas, the builders failed at finishing out an opportunity that would constantly remind all downtown patrons of the bank: a clock tower. The circle is there, it's lit up like a beacon...but no clock. If ever a downtowner would wonder what time it was, they could always look to the Frost Bank Tower and be reminded of its presence. I had fraudulent charge on my account That I had them resolve. They did a decent job at resolving it. I thought the problem was fixed then 3 months later they charge my account $300 right before Christmas. I call again to resolve the situation then customer service agent made it seem like it was all my fault this was happening. Which is completely ridiculous because after the fraudulent charge was made and they fix it. Somehow the company that the fraudulent charge went to refund me the money which is all fine but I didn't notice it. Then the customer service agent literally told me that I should pay more attention to my account. And I told her that I'm getting bad customer service and she says and I quote " If my customer service is so bad then let me get my manager and he can give you good customer service"... That is completely ridiculous because that's your job you're a customer service agent! Why you you need your manager to help you do your job? Keep in mind this issue happened three months ago! Fast forward to three months today and they're taking the money out of my account with no communication at all... There was no notification sent to me that they're gonna do this on top of that take money out of my account that I don't have putting me in the negative around Christmas time when obviously everyone needs money for Christmas gifts and the holidays. This bank is full of grinches and Scrooges!! They care nothing about a human being's life and wellbeing... They literally made this my fault that someone stole my credit card information and made fraudulent charges which I can't help that people do such low things... I switched from Wels Fargo to Frost Bank because I wanted to go with a local company, and because Wels Fargo kept deducting money from my account without notifying me! When I went into complain they'd apologize and return it, but that's stealing! I couldn't trust them. With Frost I had the polar opposite experience. It was wonderful! Nothing ever went out of my account without my permission. When I needed to call customer service the phone was answered right away. Most importantly I trusted them with my money. I got rejected for a free student checking account four years ago by this bank, and I'm still bitter. I was from Austin and knew I would return there after graduation, but I attended college in the northeast. The woman there rejected me for the account, but "invited" me to sign up with them when I returned home for good. This is just bad business--you curry loyalty early and then have customers for life. I went with Wachovia, and am still happy with them to this day. I am glad that Wachovia is reaping the benefits of my weekly overdraft fees and not Frost. My goal in life: make enough money to found a bank called "Heat Bank", and build a skyscraper in downtown Austin with glass flames at the top sprouting out from the building instead of a lame ice dome (ice in Austin? We received a mail out invitation to join Frost. We were fed up with BofA. I've always heard wonderful things about Frost. Anybank with enough good taste to build such an iconic building must be great. We weren't dissappointed. As soon as we walked in we were graciously greeted. We were given drinks and cookies. The phrase "I don't know. " was never uttered. They jumped through all the hoops to get our business, rather than make us jump through hoops just to get our money out of an account, like BofA does. They were knowledgeable and ready to do what it took to get our business. When I phone them, a live person answers the phone EVERYTIME! The differnece is night and day. I highly recommend you look into switching your accounts to Frost. read more
