The Gold Dust West out here in Elko has a restaurant called The Grille. A lot of people don't know…read morethe name and a different yelp listing, so I'm posting here on the Casino listing as a lot of people do for the coffee shop. I'm out here traveling east on the 80 with my crew blasting along the freeway at 80 mph (that's the speed limit here!) and the crew is grumbling about getting some food. They didn't wanna wait till even Wendover, cause there might not be any good food way out there. OK, so, I pull into the Gold Dust West. I've stopped here before and I do like the food they have at the Grill coffee shop inside the casino. We get seated and drink orders taken. You know I do notice a sandwich on the menu I never had before. It's the Grilled Cheese Sandwich. Usually I'd think grilled cheese was a boring sandwich you order for kids or something. But I saw it had bacon and tomato in it. You do have you choice of cheese (besides American) and choice of bread. I got it on sourdough and cheddar cheese along with onion rings ($2.00 extra). I couple of my crew got the same but with fries. The other girl on the crew got the Cali Omelet. Our food arrives and I'm surprised at the heft of the grilled cheese on sourdough. I bite in and wow, this is pretty damn tasty! It's not what I expected at all, better! The other guys liked it too and said they'd get this sandwich again. OK, I was impressed with this new grilled cheese and I think they have it at all the other Gold Dust west locations in Reno and Carson City. If you get to a Gold Dust West Casino, check out this sandwich! Oh, the dessert of the month is cherry pie ... we got a couple of pieces to share.

Seated ... asked what we would like to drink, we wanted a pre-dinner cocktail and a glass of water ... received our drinks ordered our dinner (prim rib) got our salad... when our dinner arrived we wanted another cocktail with our meal .... promptly told " you have wait 20min" ????? to my surprise I remember my mother telling me to wait 20mins before I went in the pool .... confused I asked why ??? ... no response from what I assumed was a waitress, she then got a manager and the 12yr old told us the same thing with no explanation...now mind you we didn't guzzle down 5 cocktails between being seated and our meal being delivered. I then went to the bar and ordered our dinner cocktail, the bartender asked me who the drinks were for ??? once again I'm thoroughly confused, I told her and she said she would bring them to our table, great ... thank you! .... now our meal is there, and the bartender shows up with our drinks ... but then proceeds to tell us we have to wait 20 mins ... OMG .... WHY!! ... well at this point in time it has been 20 MINS!!! ... Now we feel very humiliated, like being treated as children when were in our 60"s!!!! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!! NO EXPLANATION, and were dumbfounded!!! Dinner's over and now were ready to pay our bill... I'M so glad I checked our receipt, they charged us for 2 soups that the party next to us ordered!!! REALLY .... now that was the topping on the cake! The dinner was very good! The STAFF sucked!!

July 10, 2026 - Elko, NV…read more This is a wonderful stop along I-80 and well worth taking the time to visit. The California Trail Interpretive Center tells the story of the pioneers who traveled the California Trail in the mid-1800s through engaging exhibits, life-size dioramas, and interactive displays. I'm so glad we stopped. The life-size dioramas are beautifully done, and there's far more to see than I expected. Unfortunately, I had a limited amount of time and only scratched the surface. I could easily have spent another hour or more exploring the exhibits. The California Trail Interpretive Center is open Wednesday through Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. During our visit, it was operating on this five-day schedule because a federal hiring freeze had left the center without enough staff to open seven days a week as originally planned. If you're driving I-80 near Elko, don't just drive by--this is one of the best roadside stops in the area. Actually, you should really make it a planned visit to allow yourself enough time to take it all in.

The museum was very interactive and had beautiful murals. I also found the wagons outside enjoyable to walk around and look inside. The trails are great! There are two main lookout spots and they ate not hard trails to follow. With this said, the trails are gravel so I recommend closed toe shoes for the trails.

This museum is dedicated to the preservation of the vaquero (this is Spanish for cowboy to the uninitiated) and the American Buckaroo. The Cowboy Arts & Gear Museum is full of history, culture and traditions of the cowboy of the American West. The idea of the American cowboy is kind of romantic to many, but it is actually the daily life of people of live in this region of Nevada. This museum brings the past and present together in an easy digestible way for the museum goer to understand. Housed in the actual shop of the famous saddle maker G.S. Garcia (the building itself is well over 100 years old), this museum is full of gorgeous saddles and beautiful silver work. Family photographs, images, bits, spurs, stories, saddles, belt buckles...there is a lot on display. The museum is only one floor and would not take a ton of time to wander through. There is a cute little gift shop area in the back selling souvenirs as well. The director, Jan Peterson, was there the day we wandered through while visiting Elko for the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering. She was so enthusiastic and welcoming of our visit and had a passion for this museum project in this community.
