Good program- But it is missing the flare and FUN it had when Brandon Tyrrell was there.

Booking via the website was easy and seamless as well as filling out the waivers. The check-in area is beautiful and everyone we encountered was friendly and welcoming. Adrian was our guide who told us how to put on the harness and handle all the rigging. This was our first time doing any sort of ropes course like this but the tech involved seems fail safe and so user friendly. We definitely got a workout in and can see the need for the height requirement! We will definitely be feeling the work we put in doing the course! The guides were great, especially "Krissane"(sp) who was so encouraging and positive as she checked on us throughout the course. We were able to do both sides of the lower part of the course within the two hour booking. We opted not to do the upper course and will save it for our next visit. They offer water at the course and have tables and shade for those who are just watching. We are looking forward to returning to try out the zip lining. Some notes: Bathroom is located at base camp and the facilities are modern and clean. Gloves should be used and they offer them for $10 at base camp but we brought our own and I don't think it would be comfortable to do the course without them. They also offer camera rentals for $20 I believe. Wear pants or long shorts as the harness needs to be snug and it could be uncomfortable with shorter shorts. They have small storage behind the counter at base camp for your phones, keys, and other belongings.

You check in at the main office downtown, then hop on a tour bus to the ranch property. Our driver was super informative and entertaining along the way. The drive itself felt like part of the experience with bumpy ranch roads, multiple gates, gorgeous scenery, and a real behind the scenes feel of the property. Once you arrive, the staff gets you geared up with all the safety equipment and everyone was incredibly friendly, professional, and great with all ages. After gearing up, you take an old Army style jeep up the mountain and that ride alone was an adventure Super rickety, steep, and fun! We felt very safe the entire time because before every single zip line, the staff carefully checked everyone's safety gear and connections. There are 6 zip lines total and each one is different with spectacular views that change throughout the course. One thing to know is that you should be in reasonably good shape because there are mini hikes between some of the zip lines. There are lots of water stations along the course, which was great, but the experience is definitely active and you do not want to hold up the group. Totally worth it though and such a memorable Central Coast adventure for families, couples, teens, and adventurous kids!

Came up to the central coast to zip line and rock climb. Santa Barbara rock gym offers a belay and…read moretop rope climbing class several times a week. I took the Saturday afternoon offering. We spent 2 hours talking about climbing, learning and practicing tying knots, rigging safety gear and harnesses. Working on our belay and braking techniques, and ultimately putting it all together and rotating through top rope climbing, belaying, and observation of the other class members. At the 2 hour mark we had a firm grip, pun intended, on top rope belay and safety. Unfortunately we weren't able to take our belay test that day. The gym policy is that students need to come back a different day to test their skills and knowledge. If I was local I would have come back and taken my test. But I am confident that I have the practice and knowledge to test at my local rock climbing gym and get certified. And that was the ultimate purpose of my trip. I didn't tour the whole gym because I was focused on the class and learning the ropes, again pun intended, so I can't speak to everything. The front of the gym, the climbing walls, and men's restroom were all clean and tidy. The staff were helpful and friendly. The overall vibe was really positive. There were auto belay climbing areas as well as top rope and bouldering. The next time I am in the area I hope to spend more time at Santa Barbara rock gym to really explore the facilities and climbing walls. Also I had a little trouble finding the parking lot. It's behind the gym and accessed from a side street. The parking lot is shared with REI and several other businesses.

Parking is a bit small since it's shared with other businesses. Day passes are decently priced. Nothing crazy. Annabelle helped get me set up. She was super patient and sweet. I've climbed at Hangar 18 which is in the OC so I had an idea of what to expect here. Also a tip for future new climbers going to a new gym, try to fill out the waiver online before arriving. Cuts some time out. Pretty clean gym and not too busy for a Saturday early afternoon.
