We took our water damaged macbook to ubertec for diagnostic on last Saturday, it's the first time we've been there because it's an apple authorised store. The shop is beautiful and the staff were friendly. The job completed on Wednesday morning, we decided to pick it up due to the repairing cost is too expensive ($2000 top case and logic board need to be replaced). We didn't touch the laptop until Thursday morning when we brought it to the computer store that I'm used to. The technician and I were surprised that the device wasn't turned off and we found some obvious scratches on the surface. I swear to God that the scratches were 100% not exist before we brought it to them, my girlfriend takes a lot of care of her macbook, and especially it's a new one (only 3months old).
We went back to the shop, the sales man talked to the technician and came back with some ridiculously responses: "It's fine to leave the computer on a sleeping mode, it doesn't affect the battery or anything!" Man, are you sure? Leaving electricity running while there's water in the device? Well, it might not use the battery while it's in sleep mode but when we open the laptop lid, it turned on. so, is it just a silly excuse for forgetting to turn off the device? It's a common sense that leaving a laptop on power after water damage might cause more trouble and will easily short the logic board completely. Plus, no one ever tells me the device was still on when I picked it up.
The sales man also tells us that the technicians take good care on our laptop. Well, God knows what you did, the macbook surface is very solid, it's not easy to get scratched unless you scratch it with sharp/hard object.
We are not going back to argue with them, because I can tell from the sales man's attitude that they won't do anything about it. It could be my mistake that I didn't check the laptop immediately in front of them and take photos for our device before we handed to them.
Also, our device was actually repairable. It's now fixed for $500 with 90days warranty. I think they just not bother to do the repairing or they don't have the skills.
Overall, the shop is rip off, job quality is bad and the honest is poor. read more
